I ran out of apple chips, so I stopped at Fleet and Farm to pick some up. WELL... I was not paying attention and I forgot which chips I used last time, I ended up grabbing the alder chips. I had some Alder smoked fish when I was in Alaska, it is very common up there for smoking fish. I must have out thought myself. I will keep an eye out for the pear, sounds great. Always willing to try something new.

Joe, I used Alder wood chips on the last batch. Once again lots of thumbs up. Thanks again! Tom

Fished from 5:30 until 10:00 going 10 for 13. I took out a family friend that has lived in Port since 65 and never fished on the big pond. I set lines in 100 feet and trolled out to 180. Found most of out action between 120 and 160. Here is what I ran Rigger down 110 back 40 with 11'' white with BW poofster took a 13 king. Ended up tangling the poofster so I swithed over to the BW oily stool glow, end up with 4 lakers on that set up. Rigger down 69 back 60 with 8'' green and silver dodger with BW agitated frog. Stolen by a really nice king, I am not really sure what went wrong! May be a bad knot. 7 color with Moonshine Flounder pounder took 1 coho 5 color with Moonshine Monogilian beef took 1 coho and 2 rainbows. Dipsey set to 3 and 165 back with NKB took 1 coho. Dipsey set to 3 and 140 was quite Brads Cut Bait is not hot yet! At the fish cleaning station there was lots of kings and full coolers. I found out I was fishing below the kings and a little bit too far out. The guys from Mid West Shooters Supply limited out in afew hours, All spoons for the most part. I stopped at Mid West Shooter Supply in Lomira on the way home. They have a fantastic Great Lakes section and the good pricing. I spent an hour and a half checking it out and talking with the fishing guru. Another beatiful day on the big pond!

First trip of the year. I was debating Friday night on the sanity of a Sat morning trip. I checked the mid lake bouy report drop wave height steady throughout the night and early morning. After waiting for the heavy rain to clear out we fished from 6 until 1. Started setting in 80ft trolled South south east mostly. We found most all of our action between 100 an 120. Ended up tying the 2 dipsey and the 2 lead cores all together on the first fish of the year while trying to buck the waves and wind. Glad to get that mess out of the way. Gotta have one ugly tangle per year. Also found out how slow I am on the first trip of the year, every thing took 3 times longer... lots of rust build up over the winter. What worked... 7 color flounder pounder took 3 kings 12, 11 and 5 lbs and a rainbow 9ish lbs 5 color monogolian beef took 2 small cohos, it was too lumpy out there to tell if they were on, so they got dragged around for a while. Down rigger 60 back and 75 deep with green 8" flasher and a green fly took several hit but the would not stick, end up loosing the biggest fish of the day on that one (high teens low 20 king I assume). All 4 lost fish on that set up. Dipsey out 165 set on 3 with a brads cut bait and matching dodger took a small ho. Other Dipsy was fairly quite so I threw on a mag NBK. Got the violent strike but no one was home?? But the star of the day was the big white paddle with a Big Weenie poofster fly. 1 laker 6 lbs and 2 big kings. 40 out and 95 feet down most of the day. First time running the Flounder pounder, monoglian beef, the big white dodger and the big weenie fly. all worked very well. I have to sing the praises of the double hook set up on the Big weenies' flies. All the fish caught had both hooks buired deep. No way any of those fish were getting off. Very Impressive !! :thumb: I have a new favorite fly brand !!!! End up with a 2 man limit going 10 for 14 and couple of drivebys. Over all a get day to be out.

Jim, Nice King! Sounds like we had less wave action up north in Sheboygan, but it was still bumpy out there. -

Russell, Thanks for the video report. From your website, it looks like your shop is right on the river front, correct? Can a boat tie up to the dock for a quick purchase? -
Thank you all. Lots of great info!

I know it is fun to spend other peoples money, so here is your chance. I am looking to upgrade to full size Marine Radio. I would like to know which one would be the best bang for the buck and which ones to avoid. Not looking for a lot of gimmics or bells or whisles. Just a powerful radio that can do the job well. Might as well throw in the antena too. I have little to know idea which products are best anymore. I see names of the radios that I never heard of and a few I have. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Mike! Kathy had also told me there has be a lot of request from the rider participants. So the need is there.

All, I just wanted to share a great organization called Fishing Has No Boundaries This charity connects people with disabilities with fisherman. It is a top rated non profit site according to the Independant Charities of America Website. Check out the Sponsors page, there are a lot of great companies standing up with FHNB. I signed up and this will be my first fishing trip out on Lake Winnebago in August. I am looking forward to sharing my blessings with someone that would not have the opportunity to do this on their own. I will be sharing pictures and the story then. There are many families that deal with disabilities both emotionally and financially. For most of these families a nice fishing boat and all it's equipment is not on their radar and never will be. Please think about sharing a day or weekend with a person that has 100% pure desire and zero opportunity. I know that the GLF community has so many great members here that have the drive to help out. As of now Michigan does not have a chapter and FHNB is hoping that someone or a group will have the desire to start a chapter in Michigan. If you are not in Michigan look on the website there maybe a chapter near you or you may want to help establish one. If you are willing to donate a day or two per year please sign up or willing to help with a chapter, I guarantee that you will get more in return that you ever thought possible. If you are interested please contact Kathy Overman. Kathy will be in Michigan presenting some information about FHNB Inc this June. Kathy's email address is [email protected] I have invited Kathy to become a member here and share some stories and information with us. Regards, Tom

Here is an article regarding Brads cut bait plugs being fished from shore via a 3 way rig. Personally I think a guy could cast these using an inline keel weight also. Curry Pilot article

Personally I prefer a net that knocks the fish off on the first swipe... None of that swinging and bashing at the fish 6, 8, 10 times for me ! Seriously... an extendable handle is a must for me. I like to be able to reach out there. Helps if you have a youngster on the reel or a long dipsey rig. I second the coated net and the lightweight frame. (Tony, James) Just dont try and pick up net and fish horizontally. bend there and prefer to not do that again.

Trolling socks or socks for your feet?? Either way it will remove biologic scent from most anything.
