  1. I like the free versions better!
  2. 24 hours to brine 3 hours of smoke 5 minutes of low will power at 1 A.M. (it did not even get a chance to cool down)
  3. I am not a fan of the cannon rod holders. Every time you go to pull the rod the holder came out so I never use them any more. The retaining notch is just not big enough. They were included with the downriggers I bought. And to be perfectly honest, I do not use that set up any more. I felt like I was going to fall out the back of the boat when I would be netting a fish and the rod handles protuded into the floor area too far. I went with a full board across the back. I have that set up posted under boat rigging. I picked up 10 Ram tubes and 3 ram rods for 10 bucks each !! I really love the ram rod holders with the flip open bail, those are sweet. I use those for the spring wallie run. Some day after I get a DX4 I will invest in a set of rod trees and then.......
  4. Ryan, http://www.lake-link.com/ My cousin uses this site for the maps. You need to have a paid membership to allow you access to the maps. I use the free version for fishing reports but some times the posters/postings get out of hand. It also has a trading post that I have found some good deals. I am fairly certain that you can see a preview of the maps before you pay. Regards, Tom
  5. Here is one of the nicest days we had on the water last year. We fished off Sheboygan aprox 10 miles out and we had the whole lake to ourselves. The lake was so calm you could see the wake from the sideplanner boards for a long way back, I dare say 100 yards, but that may be a stretch. I took my friend Ernie and his daughter Izzy. This was her first salmon fishing trip. Izzy took most of these photos, caught most of the fish, and did a great job with both! I am now ready for spring!!! Anyone else???
  6. Milwaukee is the biggest violator of dumping untreated sewage and storm water into the great lakes. Milwaukee has a combined sewerage system called the deep tunnel. Every time it rains more than a few inches the tunnel fills up and they dump it to the harbor and fill it with poo poo! CAN you imagine if this was a private company, how much would a billion gallons of poo poo water would cost to be cleaned up plus the fines..... I just wonder how long is this going to take before Milwaukee and Wisconsin fixes this huge problem !!!!!
  7. not yet but soon! Sheboygan mostly
  8. All, Here is a very well written article about the raw sewage being dumped into our Great Lakes. Loretta Baughan the founder of the Spaniel Journal puts the vast quantity of pollution into a great visual form. This article was written in 2010 but little to nothing has changed and we need to keep beating the drum on this DISASTER or we will lose more than our fishing !!! 20% of the WORLD'S fresh water is contained right here in the Great Lakes ! http://spanieljournal.com/47lbaughan.html Read it and share it, maybe it will get in the right hand of some who can FIX IT !
  9. ..... it is not always the fishing that keeps us going back ! Thanks Ken!
  10. Great job Silver Beagle!
  11. Do you think Mason will let me hunt with him?
  12. Just picked up a new our pup. Wyatt is a 5 month old Welsch springer spaniel. He is already working with pigeons. I call him Wyatt Twerp after my favorite movie Tombstone and he is a twerp. Wife hates the nick name but its stuck on him now! Wyatt and Mason (MushMan). I am pretty sure they are going to be great hunting buddies. Lady and Wyatt. Lady is our 13 1/2 year old lab springer mix. She is semi retired. We have shot tons of pheasants together. It has only been two days and Lady is "tolerating" his puppy antics. Hopefully the old gal will rub off on this guy. The look on her face .... She is thinking "Warm but Irritating !"
  13. Joe, Thanks for the great recipe. Lots of compliments on the flavor!!
  14. I can see little silver scales stuck all over the back off the rig already. Happy rigging and better yet happy fishing!
  15. Oh yeah ... to continue Do not forget to remove the stern straps before backing your boat into the lake. And don't scream and swear at your kids about why they can't get the boat off the trailer, they will scream and swear right back cause they learned it from the best. And don't try to get in the water on a slippery ramp. And don't try to push the bow off first when the stern won't come loose. And don't let the stern of the boat under the dock by pushing it sideways off your trailer. And dont let the metal dock eat the hell out of your pretty blue Lund. And don't try to pull the boat back out of the water when it is now kinda sideways on the trailer. And don't try to remove the straps that you forgot in the first place, because now they are tighter than a (you fill in the blank) and wont budge. And for heavens sake never ever show that you were just a complete jackwagon and got owned by that Karma thing! Keep that head up high! I am pretty sure you can not pay to see entertainment as good as that !!!
  16. We just kept the small ones!!
  17. Never yell and curse at the boat launching in front of you because they are in your way and are too slow. If you do, just know that you have about 2 minutes until Karma will show how stupid you just were!!! P.S. The slow boat and several others will be watching and laughing at you. The slow guy, his kids, and I sat back and enjoyed the knucklehead show.
  18. That's a dandy! Thanks for sharing!
  19. Last week I wrote that the brother in law shot a "good size" doe as I was on my way to work. Well come to find out..... Good size is a bit of a stretch in any sense of the word. Since we have hunted together for quite some time, it was only appropriate to give him the business. I am glad he has a good sense of humor. We laughted about it most of the Thanksgiving weekend.
  20. Thanks guys! I cant wait until I can get my boy Mason out there, he is very excited about hunting. On my drive into work this morning, I took the long route past the public land and I see my brother in law out there hunting the same area we have been hunting. Just minutes after I drove by he calls and tells me he got a nice doe !!! Now I am sitting at work just itching to be out there on such a nice morning. Good luck to all.
  21. My personal best. Aprox 170 lbs, 8 pointer and 130 inches
  22. Sherman, Agreed, I was thinking the same thing. We have serious talent hanging out here.
  23. Kyle, I was out on the dnr web site and it looks like the calendar is all done and the awards are all done...... confusing no? Anyway there are some great images linked up on that page. Good luck to the wife.
