What problems have you had with your riggers?
-
Well that kind of sucks I got 18 lb weights. I hope I dont kill them. The riggers have a soft stop and start built in. Very happy so far cannon 5s is what I got. My daughter will be using them mostly.
-
OK Folks, I was able get a new set of riggers for my boat and they will support up to 20 lb weights. I run a fish hawk and am a little more freaked out as I am stepping up to heavier weights. What is the best way to terminate as I would hate to loose the probe but do understand that stuff does happen. I am trying to be proactive and do this the right way. Currently using cannon terminations. Have used crimps but I feel it messes with the cables true strength. I am prepared to get what it takes to do this right. Thanks to all who reply. Grizzly.

Dipsy Diver Colors
Grizzly replied to jake73's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
This year I have went to 30 to 40 ft leaders on my divers and I am landing more fish than ever on my divers. Yes you have to hand line em and make sure the diver rod is in position to re engage the fish should you need it. But for sure this has helped us out a lot this year. I run mag diver with mag ring on wire I have found that color really has not mattered for myself. Currently I am running a black one and a clear one. I run 50lb Ande for my leaders and DS3 swivels. About the only bad thing I have had happen is the leader gets wadded up in the heat of the moment and it takes a minute or 2 to straighten it out. Hot combo for us has been Kevins Girlfriend 8 inch with Kevins meat rig. Grizzly -

I put a 50 lb chunk of mono around the base of the reel and tie it off to a release clip. I back the drag down and clip the release on the wire. Works well for me -
Whats Your Favorite Brand of Flies for Lake Michigan
Grizzly replied to GLF's topic in Lake Michigan Discussion
Not sure what brand I get. But the riverside fly is my goto. I tie my own with 50 lb falcon mono. They work great. Grizzly -
Looking to find some 7.6 1100 BWD Ugly Sticks. Having a heck of a time finding them. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Grizzly

Seeing as Wire was just added to my spread over the last summer i ran into a situation where i was only landing about a 3rd of my hookups. The fish were coming off right off the bat and the drags were not set loose enough. Well after messing around for awhile and constantly tightening the drags i finally found some old releases in the boat. I wired them up to the real seat and took the pinch pads and placed them on the wire just in front of the reel. Loosened the drags and my percentages went up to about 75 percent. It made a big difference for me. I have Okuma convector 45's and granted they are not probably the best reel for this application but they get the job done. I am running wire on both sides of the boat now and really like feeling everything the fish does when fighting them. I have one roller rod and one converted 10.5 ft ugly stick with a twilli tip and it works out great. Grizzly.

Last year i added a Okuma 10.5 Tournament Series to my spread. It's a sweet setup. Last night i just put a twillitip on one of my 10.5 ft Ugly Sticks. Put a Convector 45D with 1000 ft of 7 strand torpedo wire as its all i could find locally. Also added a slide diver rod into the mix as the charter i was on last weekend ran 2 of them high and back 225 to 300 these took alot of hits for us with lemon ice on both of them. So good luck with your entry into the world of wire. Flat out wire catches fish and your gonna love feeling everything that fish does. I will post my results with my modified Ugly Stick setup. Grizzl

We just had a great Sunday am. It all came together as we found the fish down 70 to 80 over 90 fow. We missed the break as i don't have speed n temp at the ball yet. The big fish came from the bath house area. But the boat traffic and craziness told me it was not worth it and we went west and found some fish. It was nice as there were only 4 other boats near us. Hope to see you and Ted up the Tommy Brian

Well we made it over friday 8/9 fished the evening. Went 1 for 2 lost the first one then we hooked into a toad. Tony my partner landed a 32.54lber that was 44 inches long. We weighed it on a handscale that was darn accurate as when we had it certified yesterday at Captain Chucks it still weighed 32.60 i figure it had to loose a bit of weight sitting on ice for a day and a half. That fish hit a 150 copper with a just glowed up green jeans smaller spoon. Saturday we boated 4 for 6 nothing big but found fish away from the pack doing our own thing. Sunday am we limited out 9 kings and 1 steelie back to port by 9:00 am. The weather was perfect and fishing was good. Most of our fish were in 90 to 80 fow water tight to the bottom. Best rig was a blue spin doctor with a riverside fly. Best spoons were green jeans and flounder pounder. Also UV green gator and Uv Mixed Veg. Grizzly

Nice Kings and thanks for the report. Grizzly -
I am happy to say that the new wire rig really worked well except we never had a rip on it. Oh well. But that bugger gets down deep. I had it back 210 with a magnum ring and it was hitting the bottom in 100 fow. Quickly pulled and removed the zebra muscles and reset. Thanks to everyone who helped me out. Grizzly
