  1. Don't know how fast you were going on a S Troll but another poster was going over 4. My probe wouldn't work so I have no idea of down speed but at just over 3 gps we didn't get a hit going south. Were you fishing that fast? It was quite the current though.
  2. The Holland piers had lots of bait this morning jumping all over when I went through. Not sure on Saugy
  3. Finally got the new boat on the water Wed night and to our surprise the lake and weather was very calm. Had a few first trip issues like somehow forgetting my rigger poles (and the fish were deep :-(, but overall it was a good trip. the boat ran quite well for a 1973, electronics worked, autopilot worked but needs some tweaking and got the skunk out first trip. Heres Benlubbs fighting our first fish and it was a dandy. Here is our first fish and we managed one more nice but not quite as big King at dusk ending with 2 for 4 White paddle/white fly and flounder pounder took fish.
  4. If anyone needs a crew member I'd love to go. I have to work Sat afternoon or I'd sign up and find a crew myself. I'm supposed to start at 1 but if someone wants a rider who will chip in let me know and I'll ask to start a little late. I'll have to miss the weigh in but I'm sure I can fish till the noon stop time. As soon as we get back to port I'll need to head to work. Thanks
  5. Well done Ben. Lot of great fishing
  6. Good start Jon. I'm hoping to get the Slickcraft out for its maiden voyage this coming week if all goes well.
  7. New boat not quite ready, hopefully another week or 2. Here is a pic of the first one last night.
  8. Lake laid down nice from the morning 4 footers and managed to go 3 for 4 with 2 big Kings and a nice King. Was surprised to take 3 fish that size this time of year. Cleaning station had a bunch of fish so its game on. Found fish in the 180 range and found out later the reason I couldn't get them going was I wasn't fishing deep enough (way down) and headed in to the 100-120 range and got 3. 40- 60 down, spoons, orange/green and purple/tan.
  9. Thanks Mike, I'll keep you in mind. Hopefully we can join the fun sometime.
  10. I missed joining and my Slickcraft is not quite ready yet but if anyone needs a crew member please let me know. I am also able to fill in with my boat if needed sometime but I don't have any crew at this time. Please keep me in mind as the season goes on as Thursday night usually works good for me to fish. I also almost always fish Wed as its my day off so the pre-fishing is already done! I'll gladly pay my share. Thank you Bob
  11. Great day on the water even though it was slow. Did manage only 1 hit and almost lost him at the back as well. Nice getting together for lunch with you Dr Hook. Thanks for the tips during the day. At least this one put up quite a fight.
  12. Well I'll be fishing tomorrow am and I need all the help I can get so I appreciate you leaving me some fish. Maybe I just might knock one in the head and make bite in retaliation.
  13. It wasn't my fault that one got away. It jumped over the boat twice and I think it was attacking Ben cause he was holding the net. It definitely was at least 600 lbs and Jimmy was fishing with 1/2 lb test so its not my fault. Last I saw it it was leaving a 3 foot wake heading straight at the boat and it was chewing on the line with a smirk on its face. Other than that it was a great trip with great people. Thanks Jimmy, sure was great to finally get on the water this year. Hoping to get my boat out tomorrow morning if the 40% chance of storms gives me a break.
  14. I have trim tabs on a slickcraft ss235 and one appears to be slightly leaking. It has a hydraulic line to the back of it and I was wondering how hard it would be to replace the seals and how to go about it? Can I just take the line off the back and take the (piston?) off the tab and either fix it or take it in or is it more complicated than that? Do i need to trim the tab either up or down to remove the line and not have pressure or lose all the oil? Sorry don't know what kind they are.
  15. another case of government efficiency
  16. Its the Ford 302, 188 hp I believe and I'll get the pics and info to those who asked sometime next week when I get a chance. Thanks for the replies and info.
  17. My new chore. Wondering if with this weather I need to fit it with a snowboard. I'll be interested in any info on maintenance, updates etc for those who know the SS235. Like should I run a lead substitute?
  18. Vynol and composite material is available instead of wood and won't rot or need painting and various vynol coated hooks are available as well. I bought bike hooks on sale at Menards 5 for a buck.
  19. Brought my new (old) boat home today and as I was trying to get it to fit in the barn I was swooped by an Eagle which killed a rabbit in the ditch maybe 30 yards in front of me then landed on the road and waited (probably wondering if I was a threat). Then it hopped into the ditch grabbed it and flew across the road to eat it. If you blow up the pic its right above the trailer. That was more cool than bringing my boat home. Wish I had a a good camera with instead of a phone.
  20. very nice
  21. My "shades" start with a hat and then the best "cheap" glasses I can find with good uv protection and anti-glare. I have left or lost too many glasses to spend a bunch for them. Come to think of it I left a pair on Ben's boat last year but he was kind enough to return them. Hey Ben if they were Costa's would I have ever seen them again??? :-)
  22. Maybe the squirrel was like my dog who loves rabbit (nuggets) and the squirrel was just eating them from the inside before they gat dropped. We have lots of rabbits in the yard every night and the dog is like a vacuum in the morning sucking up the marbles.
  23. Thats just what I needed, thank you
