Awesome double. I was hoping to be out there tomorrow but looks like weather is having me switch to Thur evening instead of my usual Wed. -
Took this true double on one pole wednesday with one on a Flounder on the main line and the other on a carmel dolphin I believe on the slider.

5 for 8 this morning with 2 of us in the small boat. Lake was nice. I was determined to go past 200 today so even though we picked up a couple in 130-160 we kept going. Nothing from 175-200 but there was a nice area of fish from 200-220. After that the screen went sterile till we turned back about 235. Picked up a couple out there and lost a big king (broke him off just behind the boat ) Things went dead after we lost the king who took my flounder (3rd hit on it) and my slider (1 hit on it). Fished out there for an hour and a half or so and decided to head in. Pulling lines we had a Coho on one, another fish on one (lost it) and a bag on a third pole so were pulling stuff for who knows how long on our 3 best rigs. Oh well. A little damp but overall nice day. Fish were on the south side of a scum line running to the ne about out from the sliders. Carmel was the color other than the flounder pounder.

Didn't expect to go with small craft advisories out but checked the buoy and it was 1.3 this am and very nice fishing. Water went down to 55 surface temp so started with 2 passes at the pier heads and lost one. Should have stayed in tight. Trolled out to 130 and not much past 80 going on so came back in and took one in about 60' on a yellow/orange Lyman, lost another, and fought a dandy steelhead for a bit before losing him also (orange crush). So 1 for 4 and it was getting better the closer in we got. Wish I would of had time to fish way inside. Pierheads may be hot tonight or in the am if it stays cold but its likely to warm up some. -

Went in to the boat and smelled gas today and found out the fuel fill leaks. It got on the carpet under where I had a lot of the gear we used including a paddle/fly that we saw fish after fish come up and look and run away. Everything in that area smelled of gas. One spin doctor/meat rig is so bad after soaking for hours it still reeks of gas. No wonder they turned off. Hope I don't have to through away a bunch of stuff. -

Gotta love those Wed am trips! Had to make it a solo trip on Thur this week and had to quit early but nabbed the biggest king of the year yet and a nice coho for a 2 for 2 day with out much traffic where I was anyway as I trolled west. -
Pre Alpha trim cylinders issues (Help)
coralee replied to coralee's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
There is no pressure holding it up. It falls within a minute and you can push it the rest of the way down by hand. And it has no "down" pressure at all. It won't even retract the cylinders when they are loose and not even connected to the outdrive. I can't see any leaks. -
Any advice on how to OR where I need to go greatly appreciated. Last trip out the port side trim cylinder on the outdrive started leaking badly. The outdrive also would not power down all the way. I have replaced the leaking ram but now the outdrive will power up but will not hold in the up position but will slide back down. I have added fluid multiple times, tried bleeding various ways and it still will not hold up. I took both rams off and found out they will power out but they will not power back in they just stay extended. The motor runs both ways. Any suggestions or who around here is a good mechanic who knows old pre alpha mercruiser stuff. Any guys here who know their stuff looking for a job? I'm sick of the boat sitting in the barn and not fishing. slickcraft ss 235, 1973 PS-Working on it today also noticed a small gas leak in the carb where the throttle cable is attached (the piece that rotates where it enters the side of the carb, and the boat stalls when trying to idle down or shift into forward or reverse. Its hard to get the boat to go forward or reverse without stalling multiple times. Seems like you need to quick get gas to it to keep it going. Please help I'm having fishing withdrawals bad.

I can't find any numbers except what is in the pic and I can't tell which one it is and there is a different Pertronix ignition for each one. Anyone able to tell me which one it is? Mercruiser or Mallory?

Hopefully you sunk the skunk! -
I thought that was an echo bouncing back and forth but not sure about that.

I have a leak where the main body of the cylinder fits into the base on the end nearest the boat. Is this just a seal/o-ring? and how hard is it to fix? Thanks

4 for 5 with some nice kings tonight. Overall still slow as we took one on the way out and lost one on the way back in but happened to hit a pocket of fish in 202' of water and landed a triple. Matt from here fishy fishy was along for a nice evening of fishing including a nice hard rain for a bit. Great night to be out though. Green spoons with dots, white flasher/ poofster, and brads plug greenish also. One nice Coho as well

Hi Rob I have been looking into the same thing and would love to hear how it works out for you. I was told that the timing needed to be adjusted after changing out (pertronics) but that it was a once and done thing. Any info and or advice when your done would be greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't it be nice if gas was more like a buck and a half like it should be if it weren't for gov't meddling then cost wouldn't be as big an issue. In the small boat I still can fish quite cheap and its just plain nice to have someone along. The bigger one is expensive on gas and help with costs, well it does help as I only make 1/3rd of what I used to, But to me I like to have good people on board and I've sure met and fished with plenty around here on my boat and theirs. I'd rather pay all costs and spend 6 hours with good people then have someone give me 40 bucks and be a royal pain. One thing I see here is truck costs and I never really considered that but that is part of the expense as well. I plan on fishing even if its alone so good company and help I consider a bonus already.

Which one do I want for a 1973 188hp Mercruiser? Looks like there is Pertronix and Hot spark at least to choose from. Motor seems to run good but starts a bit tough and stalls when putting in gear especially when still cold. Seems like you need to start the motor about 5 or 10 times before it wants to go. Thanks

My "new" trailer decided to let one of the wheels go rolling down the parking lot the last time I launched and I'm debating the best remedy. All 4 bearings were supposed to have been replaced last year but a mechanic told me the spindle is shot on this one at least. It also exposed some deep cracks on the inside of the tire as well, dry rot I assume. The trailer main frame seems strong but the fenders are rusted through in places. So, do I have the spindle fixed?, buy new tires?, replace the axel(s)?, replace the trailer with a new or used one? Any advice appreciated. Also if I change trailers it can't be any higher than this one as I only have about 4 or 5 inches to spare up top. Slickcraft ss 235 Thank you
