kitchen replied to todd.v's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
what color spoons are working lately i live in harbor beach and i am alomost done fishing walleye in saginaw bay and will be bringing my boats back up here to salmon fish. I caught a few coho and lakers, and a couple kings up here just messing around, on silver streak spoons in orange crush, orange chilly willy, and blue dolphin if i was gonna buy more spoons which would be the best to get. -
Joined up with tim61 from this site and headed out of sebewaing saturday morning to buoys 1 and 2, or the green and white sparkplug some will say. We fished the west side of the buoys in 23 to 25 fow. Things started off good till the wind died then slowed down a little, i made a call to friend who was in the same area fishing a walleye tourny and they were limited playing catch and release looking for bigger fish, we moved in behind him and things got hot. We put our 4 man limit in the box in quick order and then we also started playing catch and release for awhile. We caught prolly 15 to 20 throwbacks and only 3 small shephead for the junkfish. We dragged meat 1.3 to 1.7, colors did matter a little, pink panties was hot and so were silver streak number 5 colorodo blades in blueberry muffin and siberian tiger along with wolverine salamander, 60 to 80 off the boards with 1 oz inlines. Also had 3 jumbo bonus perch. Thanks for the boat ride tim i had a blast and was happy we got off the water before it got hot. I am looking forward to salmon fishing with you next month.

The week of July 8, in the rear view mirror.
kitchen replied to Priority1's topic in Saginaw Bay Fishing Reports - Walleye
sounds like you had a good week, im headed out of sebewaing this weekend to fish around buoys 1 and 2 got some friends that have been sitting on a pod of really nice eyes all week out there and they are begging me to go. Plus my honey hole in caseville has dried up according to my friends that have been fishing oak point the last 2 days. -
Had my family reunion on saturday in fostoria at my uncles house. We got to talking and came up with a plan to go fishing on sunday morning, he likes to walleye fish but has only been out twice this year. I tweaked a few things on his boat and gear to get ready. After alot of beer, a walleye fry that feed over 60 people and a 1,500 dollar firework show we hit the sack about 1. We managed to get the boat launched about 630, we had four kids with us between 5 and 12. Headed out to the same spot i was fishing last week and started filling the box rather quickly with nice eyes. Fished 32 to 38 fow around oak point dragging meat on 2 oz bb 60 to 80 off the boards. We ended up with 27 dandys in the box 3 short of our 6 man limit but we had to head in the children were ready to go. We had no throwbacks or junkfish but the kids lost a number of keepers. Colors were antifreeze with white, blueberry muffin, and wolverine salamander. We trolled 1.4 to 1.8, lots of people fishing and lots of nets going down. Had some friends camp in grindstone for the weekend and they caught a 3 man limit each day fishing 20 to 30 fow dragging meat.

Fished out of caseville this morning had lines in at 6 and were back to shore with a 4 man limit at 930. We worked 30 to 40 fow north towards oak point. The fish were very nice in size with the average fish around the 24 inch mark, and a few fish over 26. We ran 2 oz bb 50 to 80 off the boards with 65 to 75 back seemed to be the best, chartruece/blueberry muffin was on fire, with firetiger coming in second. Lots of boats out there being casevilles walleye tournament is in full swing. Plan on fishing out of there again tomorrow.

where did you fish out of on the east side, we have been doing great out of sebewaing
-
Took a break from walleye fishing today and fished salmon out of harbor beach where i just recently moved. We had lines in at 6 this morning and were back at dock at 830 with 2 nice kings and a steelhead the kings were 13 and 15 pounds and the steely was just under 10. We fished 100 fow working the top 40 foot trolling silver steak spoons in orange colors, speed was 2.2to 2.8, we also lost 2 fish. Ran the spoons on 3 ounce in lines weights 50 to 80 off the boards. They are starting to catch some nice eyes as well working 30 to 50 fow off the back of the break walls, it was nice to catch something besides a walleye for a change.

Fished out of sebewaing this morning had lines in at 545 and were back 2 dock with a 20 in the box at 9. The bite was hot and the waves were big. Dropped lines a half mile past the last buoy of the sebewaing river and made a 2 mile troll toward the islands. The water depth was 11 to 13 fow, marked alot of fish on the bottom, so we ran the crawlers dragging the bottom. Hot colors were pink, antifreeze and purple, we trolled 1.8 to 2.2 using 1 1.5 oz bb. Only had 3 throwbacks and no junkfish, water temp was 77.

Inner Bay Walleye 6-26-2012
kitchen replied to Priority1's topic in Saginaw Bay Fishing Reports - Walleye
Nice fish frank, i sent you a pm, got some friends headed that way and they could use a few pointers -
I know but not for much longer, and my friends are catching big eyes, no junkfish, and no throwbacks in caseville and port austin. I dont mind when all the walleye in the box are over 22 inches
-
The fish are moving out of the inner bay for sure, i have some friends that are doing well out of caseville and port austin, they just started catching good numbers the last week or so. They are fishing straight out and north of caseville in 30 to 40 fow trolling spoons, crawlers and worm burners, port austin they are in 15 to 25 fow around the lighthouse, the best lure is reef runners./
-
I dont keep cats but my buddy that was with me likes to smoke em so i figured i could allow them in the boat just for one day being we were catching so many eyes to
-
I hear ya on the bugs they were bad by the sparkplug but once we moved in by the islands they were gone
-
Well we boxed a 5 man limit saturday out of sebewaing, but it took us most of the day. Headed out to the plug 25 to 35 fow had lines in at 8 and trolled to 1030 without putting a fish in the box. Alot of boats but no one netting any fish, and the chatter on the radio was everyone was marking a ton of fish but they werent biting. We made a 7 mile run to the back of the island chain north of sebewaing to some of my way points from years past, and started filling the box in purdy quick order. We fished the inside of the slot close to the islands in 11 to 15 fow, water temp was 76 to 78. The water was really stained and the fish were very aggressive, and so were the catfish. We had prolly 30 to 40 throwbacks and filled 2 coolers with big cats for a friend who wanted them. I got sick of catching cats so i switched the side i was running to hot n tots and that fixed that and produced some bigger eyes as well. Heres what worked 1 0z bb 20 to 30 off the boards with pink and purple crawlers, the tots were firetiger, purple, and black n silver. I dont think the fish will be in that shallow warm water much longer, im gonna start fishing out of caseville next weekend.

Fished the plug saturday in 25 to 30 fow and caught a hefty 3 man limit in about 3 hours of trolling. The fish were between 23 and 28 inches, with only 1 shephead and 6 throwbacks. All pink crawler harnesses were the best with all black coming in second. Ran 1.5 oz bb 45 to 65 off the boards trolling 1.4 to 1.8. Had some friends follow us out and troll next to us and they ran all stinger spoons in monkey puke and rasberry and also caught there limit. There was alot of boats out there on saturday fishing on all sides of the plug.

Soup Will Be Missed By All
kitchen replied to Paperboy1's topic in Saginaw Bay Fishing Reports - Walleye
My friend aaron was friends with him and i was able to do some fishing with him out of the mouth of the saginaw river earlier this season he was a good man and a great fisherman, i know he taught me a few things that one day, we sure did reel in some hawg walleye that day -
nice fish we were out there by the green and white sparkplug saturday and sunday boated a 4 man each day with most of the fish 23 to 29 inches a few were pushing the 30 in mark, two of the nicest batches of fish this season, we had to stack them neatly in the cooler to get them all to fit
-
Im not retired, im only 28, i dont fish otta augres, and i can only fish on the weekends being i work 50 hours a week but i sure have been putting the hurt on the eyes since i was a boy, and i could bring alot to the table, keep me in mind.

went out of sebewaing saturday afternoon we had to wait for the wind to die down a little so we could make the 10 mile run to the sparkplug. Fished the east side of the plug on the edge of the sandbar in 19 to 25 fow, and caught a 4 man limit each day. Had lines in the water at 430 saturday eveninin and were back to shore with 20 in the box about 9. Hit the water sunday morning and had lines in the water at 9 and put 20 in the box in decent time and were back to shore at 230. Not many throwbacks but alot of shephead, big ones. The fish ranged from 19 to 29 inches some of the most consistent size yet this year. Heres what worked we worked the bottom as well as suspended fish about half way down, 1 t0 1.5 oz bb 25 to 55 off the boards trolling at 1.5 to 2. They were picky about the colors, black and silver crawler harnesses were the best with pink n white, and gold and orange all with copper backs also catching fish. The fish would hammer the lines pulling the yellow birds under the water then swim with u all the way in like they werent even there.
-
Launched out of sunset this morning at 730 and had lines in the water by 815, trolled the sandbar 13 to 14 fow and picked smalleyes and junkfish. Made a run to the north and same deal, then made another farther north on the bar in 7 to 10 fow and got into the fish we had zero in the box and put 14 in there in under a hour, we all had to be to work by 3 so we pulled lines at 11.15 with 14 in the box. The fish ranged from 17 to 27 inches and they wanted the firetiger harnesses dragging the bottom with 3/4 oz bb. First trip of the season without hitting our limit, well it could be worse i guess. Gonna be on the water all weekend out of sebewaing keep everyone posted

gotta love that walleye chop
-
Fished out of sunset saturday morning and boated a 6 man limit between 2 boats in 3 hours of fishing alot of small fish again with more junk fish this time. Got rained out on sunday but hit the water monday morning. We went out of sebewaing and boated a 5 man limit north of sebewaing in the slot in 15-17 fow off the back of the island chain. The fishing has slowed to the south and picked up to the north, all the fish monday were 19 to 25 inches with very few throwbacks and junkfish. The hot colors were pink with white, and purple with pink backs. We trolled 1.1 to 1.6 dragging the bottom hard, the fish seemed very aggressive shaking their heads the whole way to the boat. Hope everybody had a good weekend of fishing and memorial day.

Nice fish frank you ever think about switching sides once and awhile i could show you a few of my honey holes on the east side for when the west slows down. I love fishing the shallow water for eyes especially this time of year. -
Both friday and suturday the fish never really slowed down. It seemed like the later in the morning it got the more big fish we caught and the little ones kinda tappered off. We had lines in at 730 both days and had our limits in the cooler by 10-1030 so we kept fishing throwing the 16-17 inchers back and keeping 18 -20 inchers. When the walleye are hitting like that and your on top of a big school of active fish its usually a all day affair. I go out at noon sometimes and fish the middle of the day and do just fine its all about finding and staying on top of those active feeding fish.
-
I would hit the east side of the bay if i were you, go either out of sebewaing or thomas marina, the fish are shallow which makes it super easy fishing. Work the slot south of sebewaing in 14-17 fow.
