  1. i went down to the pole barn. hooked everything up. adjusted the rod side to where i could crank the rod tips down to the water line. then adjusted the lure side to where i could just tug the lure and it would trip the release. if this thing works half as good in the water as it does in the barn. well look out mr. eyes. ....sherman....
  2. i think mainly it just depends on how many people your going to fish. i fish with a boat load of family and friends. so i bought 2 new riggers so i could get more lines in the water. the riggers must be in good condition or i wouldnt even consider them. you can usely get some real nice walkers on ebay at a great price. they have some right now that are nice with the auto ball retrieval and auto stop. but my first item would be how many rods do you need in the water. ....sherman....
  3. just a suggestion. have you checked out the lite bite slide divers. before you buy all new divers you might just want to check them out. i used dipsy,s for awhile, then 2 years ago i switched to the walker divers because they didnt have the rings. then last spring i was introduced to the light bite,s. so they caught another fisherman. so i switched again. they do have the rings, but they fit real good and dont give you any problem. but the point being that you can run them pretty much like any other diver or you can have as long of a leader as you want. then you can adjust the tension tight enough not to have a bunch of false releases in choppy water. then adjust the triger as light as you want. if your getting alot of small fish they will still trip the diver. i uesd them for walleye on the central basin last year. it was great to be able to just get the rod and start reeling. very few did we have to trip from the boat. i think the web site is slidediver.com i run 6 of these and for me on walleye there priceless. just something elce to think about. i think the walkers are better than dipsy,s. i think the lite bite slide divers are in a class all there own. ....sherman....
  4. i havent got to know you, but it sure sounds like your going to be missed. good luch. ....sherman....

  6. i dont really go out of my way to tell the wife. but i dont really hide it from her. but then i have the same wife i,ve had for 40 years this dec. the other day i was looking at 6 of the cannon ratcheting rod holders at amazon.com. she asked how much are they. they had them for 62.00 each for 6. i told her the price. she said we have the money right now why dont you go ahead and order them. i couldnt come up with a good reason not to.lol. but i hadnt told her about the 2 big jon pro tournaments that i had just bought off ebay for 510.00. and she may never know. but i do think i would survive. but over the years most of my fishing has been paid for with overtime. ....sherman....
  7. Hey i just got my new set of the chamberlain releases today. They may not improve my fishing but they sure are fun to play with.lol. No kidding just by playing with them alittle, i think trere going to be the answer for the rubber bands. Have a great season. ....sherman....

  9. hey guys i really want to thank all you guys for all the info. i,ve just been useing the rubber bands. the biggest down side, rubber bands everywhere. then with one band it kept breaking. with two bands you have to check them every 1/2 hour. i never had as much trouble back when i fished for salmon(just on shakers) but i,ve been eyes only for the last 20 yrs. well i got sick about 8 or 9 yrs ago. most of my fishing friends have died or moved away. so i just quit fishing. then 2 yrs ago my oldest son wanted me to take my boat and go back to the central basin with him and his family. fell in love all over again. went last year, loved it. were planning on much more fishing this year. the chamberlain release is going to make the riggers a pleasure. i got my first 2 electric last year. i got 2 more this year. i would have hated to have pulled them every 1/2 hour.i use a 16 ft surf rod as a outrigger. i dont like wire so i use the small dipsy and i use 15 lb ripcord 400 ft back on the outrigger. i dont get alot of fish on these but i do get fish on them. then 6 lite bite slide divers. you just dont have time to be pulling 4 riggers every 1/2 hour. i just cant wait for july. thats when i start in the central basin. its really good talkin to a bunch of fishaholics like myself. thanks again ....sherman....
  10. hey i dont know if anybodys interested but midwesthuntersoutlet.com still has 2 chamberlain releases for 11.43 each with flat rate shipping of 4.99. i just bought 6 new ones. and i,ve been trying to get alittle more info from people thats used them. i want them for walleye on lake eries central basin. ....sherman....
  11. hey richard i dont know for sure, but i was told 200 ft. but i would wait on a few more posts. didnt know about useing mono as a backing to stop slipage. and i use the small diawa accudepth plus 17lc and sealine17lcp with 65 lb test for my lite bite slide divers(dipsy,s)so i didnt have alot of room to spare. and it was slipping. so i sent them to tuna tom at tunas reel troubles. and he put pins in my arbors. so i dont need the backing anymore. i only fish walleye on the central basin of erie. so i only run 240 ft of line out at the most. but i only put about 500 ft of line on my reel. good luck....sherman.... PS you might give tuna tom a call at 231-907-0052 and ask him. he,s always willing to help everybody. thats where i get all my reel repair done.
  12. hey everybody i new at this so please bare with me. i just heard about a new downrigger release. chamberlain downrigger release, i would really like to get your input on this release. they sound almost to good to be true. if you have used them or have personal knowledge of them please get on here and let me have it.LOL....sherman....
  13. hey brandon in my opinion it depends alot on what fish your going after. last year i set up to run 3 lite bite slide divers on each side. i used the diawa adp17lc on one side and the sealine17lcp on the other. but i only fish walleye in the central basin. i fish 65 ft deep at the most. i wouldnt go with the old accudepth unless i just had to, but the 17 accudepth plus worked great for me. i rigged the way i did because the adp,s are silver and the sealines are black. so the rookies on my boat didnt put the wrong one on the wrong side. if i still fished salmon i would go with something bigger than the 27,s. but if you just fish eyes their plenty big enough. i bought all my reels used on ebay. the most i had to pay was 55.00, and that was for the sealine17lcp. i only got 1 that had to be repaired. and the seller paid for that. i would also reccomend the okuma convector 20,s just for eyes. bigger for salmon. for dipsy,s you want line counters whatever you get. hope this gives you some insight. walleye chops forever....sherman....
  14. hey again brandon one other thing i did. i got on ebay and found a place selling power handles. emailed him and he listed what i needed for a good price. the power handles you could add anytime. but their worth the money. if you go with the convectors they come with both handles. or the 20 size does. have a great season....sherman....
