glad we had some answers that helped you. and its never a bad idea to check for loose screws. but when those screws go into the fiberglass tight its kinda wedged in there. the ones on my rod holders have been good and tight for atleast 7 or 8 years. good luck and great fishing. sherman

cannon riggers **SOLD**

sold!!sold!! -
i dont see why just using stainless sheet metal screws wouldnt work for you with that much fiberglass. ive been using cabelas quick draw holders on my old boat for my divers, and i,ve had them mounted with sheet metal screws. they are very solid. i weigh 250 lb and have lifted myself just holding on to the mounts. i,ve also mounted cleats on boats to tie my anchor rope off, and never had one come loose. you have to get your hole drilled big enough that your screw will go in tight. but if you get it to small your screw will get about half way in then stop or twist off. but you dont want it to big. and you want to use size 14 screws and long enough to go all the way in the fiberglass. there not going to come loose or brake. there as good as 1/2" bolts. if your still not sure just try them on a 2x4 board and try to get them off. good luck and let us know what you do. sherman

this really sucks for you. i feel your pain. we need to be fishing. if there was anything i could do to help i would. i put my boat in the marina last oct. told them to check it out and winterize it. i still dont have it back. i went out there 3 weeks ago and was told they had to get some parts. they got 2 alternators 2 new belts 1 raw water pump and 1 pully and 1 starter and was told they would get to it as soon as they could. we are going to have it out this week. -
sounds good. give em heck. sherman

couldnt have happened to a nicer guy.LOL. i was fishing in jupiter fl a few yrs ago, this commerical boat was trolling beside me then just out of nowhere he turns right behind my boat. wipes out all 6 lines. we called him everything but a fisherman. he just shrugged his shoulders and smiled. we had wire leaders on all 6 rigs. i hope that did something to his shaft drive. sherman

permanant mount with atleast an 8' antenna is what i would get. and you dont need no 300.00 radio. just a deacent radio with a good antenna is all you need. good luck and good fishin sherman

personaly i like the pancake type weights myself. i have 2 10# and 4 13# which i use now. they arent even in the same class as the balls. some of the coating came loose on one of the 10# ones and i repaired it with hot glue. but they are still in pretty good shape. if you might want them i only want 35.00 for them shipped to you. sherman

sure looks like you put them in the right place. on the boat.LOL just kidding. looks good enjoy them. sherman

yea what he said! but to get real the only thing it might do is give you just alittle better hole shot and a few more rpm,s. i,d put her on there and take her for a test run. as long as you dont over tach you should be ok. you may even like the 14 better than the old 14.5. i would want to test it before i went out for a long day of fishing, just to make sure what its going to do. then when you get your old prop back from the prop shop you can switch them back if you want. but if you like the 14 you can keep the 14.5 as your spare. its good to know what your spare prop is going to do anyway. good luck and let us know how it turns out. i put a 13 1/2 x 19 pitch 5 blade on my old boat, and loved it. but i could have used just a few more rpm,s on top end. so i got a real good buy on a 13 1/2 x 17 pitch on ebay for 150.00. so i bought it and just wanted to find out what it was going to do. its hard to believe but the only thing i could tell was about 200 more rpm,s. it seemed to take off about the same, top end was about the same, just a few more rpm,s sherman

this is one time i cant argue with most of you guys. it just seems like every trip i make all our little cubby holes get filled with old line. most of the time we just put it in one of our old chip bags and stick it in a cubby hole. now sometimes some of its my own. but for the most part its where it got on our rigs. i dont think its as bad on the water as it is in places like maumee.it gets horrable there. i even make the guys on my boat put there butts in pop cans.LOL. it just dont take that much effort. we always have to clean crap out of our boat every day. but then were pigs anyway. because we never throw anything out. candy papers soda cans. alot of the time we use our ice bags for trash bags. well i,ve ranted enough. and remember what it would be like if the 90% didnt clean up after the 10%. sherman

Setting up multiple rods on the same side
sherman51 replied to BenLubbs's topic in Salmon Pro's Connection
yea that! always be running straight when your putting out lines. it just works best. heres my set up. rod holders sticking straight out to the side. take a 10' rod i went to 50 fow used lite bite slide diver stock weight small ring 65 lb braid 2 mph. on #4 setting. let out line untill bumping bottom. took 185 ft. out to hit bottom thats 3.7 ft per every 10 ft of line out to hit bottom so now i have my dive curve. i want to run around 55 down. so 55x3.7= 203ft of line out. this one goes in front holder then a 9' rod on #3 setting 20 ft less=183 it goes in the middle holder. then a 8 ft rod on #2 setting 20 ft less=163 out. this gives me 3 rods at approx. 55 ft deep. if you catch a fish or your diver just trips on one of the outside rod, you can put it back out. most of the time without getting tangled. start out as far over on the other side of the boat as you can go without getting in lines. with clicker on start letting it out at a smooth steady pace. when you have about 10 ft to go put your thumb on spool to slow it down alittle then just take the rod over the back rod or rods and put it in its holder. check footage and set it on the footage you want. its really not as bad as it sounds after youve done it a time or two.just remember to get your dive curve on your #4 setting then set the next #3 20' less. then the #2 20' less than that one. i already have my dive curve so if i want to run 65 ft i go 65x3.7=240 ft out. i like to stagger the rods, they are just eaiser to run but you can run same length rods just fine. and i say always use a braid line for your main line and atleast 50 lb. and if you can set them up this way have the tip of the middle rod a couple of in higher than the back rod then the front one higher than the middle rod. if you really want to go deep use the light bite slide diver and you can get a 4 oz weight and a large ring. just remember to get your dive curve for that set up. i could give you more tips on getting deep but this is already way to long. and i really hope it helps you catch fish. check out slidediver.com watch the video.....sherman....i got this set up going out on a lake erie central basin walleye charter a couple of times. and i still reccomend everybody that can go out on a charter running his lines the way you want to learn, atleast once. -

i know this really doesnt help you right now but thought i would let you know some of us have been there. once i had a engine lock up because the cam broke. and about 8 yrs ago i had one lock up and it was the top gears in the outdrive on my mercruiser. i just hope you didnt spin a rod bearing. back years ago before rock when i was doing alittle raceing i seen that happen a few times. (i would have said lol but there just isnt anything funny.) that locks them up right now. im afraid that may be your problem. we all are thinking about you. good luck and keep us posted. sherman -
first i want you to know i dont have anything at all to do with this site. i,ve just had great success with his lures and the paint dont come off. i,ve never even met the guy. if you have already checked out his site please let me know what you think. if not please check it out at galeforcetackle.com and let me know what you think. and again i have nothing to gain from this except just your thoughts. im just doing this because of the quality of his lures. and the service he gives. he ties my worm harnesses up tandem for me he also ties them without leaders for easy storage for me. then i just use the leader i want. i also want solid clevices. and i just asked him if he would tie me up 36 with wire, and he said yes. he also has some hot spoons. the real hot colors i used last year on the central basin. DR DEATH/ GALE FORCE/ REVERCE MUFFIN/ WATERMELON/ BOTH COPPER BACKS AND SILVER WORKED GOOD if this thread is out of line, i,m sure the moderator will remove it. because its not my intent to do anything but let others know about some great lures great service and the prices are close to fair. ofcourse 1/2 price would be better.LOL.

i know your probably going to think i made this up but its true. about 25 yrs ago we had one of those little fellers come on our boat. my friend had taken his shoes off. the bird went in his shoe. after it hadnt come out for awhile he checked on it. the little feller was dead. never was sure what killed him tho. better luck fishing next time. sherman -
Setting up multiple rods on the same side
sherman51 replied to BenLubbs's topic in Salmon Pro's Connection
i think thats a great offer on your part. you just dont get offers like this every day. things like this is a big part of why im glad i got in this forum. there really is some good people on here. i wish i had been on here when i first started the central basin. as a matter of fact sometime in june i may try to find a couple of open seats at geneva ohio for walleye. or see if some of you guys would let me just go along for the ride. so i might learn alittle more. i would be willing to pay my part just to go back to school.LOL. and catch a few fish. sherman -

sherman51 replied to BenLubbs's topic in Salmon Pro's Connection
one nice thing is you might find some guys on here willing to let you go out with them to see how they do it if you ask nicely. when i started fishing the central basin moving from the western basin i didnt have a clue. had never even seen a dipsy diver except hanging on hooks in the stores. a friend of mine bought a boat from a charter capt. then we got together and chartered him out a couple of times. i still dont know alot but i did learn enough to run 8 dipsy,s and 4 riggers and 2 outriggers with long lines. and i do atleast catch some fish. enough that we all have fun. so thats the best way to learn, is for someone to show you how. good luck and good fishing. sherman -
Lake Erie walleye kill was probably weather-related
