So busy with work right now, I have no time. Pulling the boat over to winter shelter Friday a.m. before I go to work. I think that I will take a rest Saturday and Sunday cause my a$$ is whooped from working so hard, but I sure don't mind the greenbacks. I actually have enough work to keep me busy until the beginning of February, which is what I am going for. Now I would like to start lining things up even further out than that. It's like all of the sudden the plan is coming together. WISHIN I WAS FISHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will take your word about the dipsies and deploy my arsenal on some unsuspecting walleye come next summer. Hopefully I will have the same success you have with them. How long of a leader do you like to run with your dipsies for eye's? Furthermore do you also use body baits behind the diver? All this talk about fishing and no chance in the near future for me to fish, I think maybe I oughta' drown my sorrows.

2 mossburg pump shotguns 12ga & 20ga
JWheeler replied to blue waters's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Wish I had the xtra money, the 12 gauge is exactly what I am looking for. Will check back with ya after the holidays to see if you still have it. -
Just getting into the swing of things. Have hunted deer a little bit through the years, but nothing steady. I love seeing them in the woods, pretty sweet rush. Last year I tried for a turkey with nothing to show for my efforts. I think from here on out I will be spending more time hunting, when fishing is not possible. I used to fish the rivers a lot during hunting season, but anymore I don't spend anytime on the rivers. Friends have mentioned the duck hunting, and small game hunting, it is just another opportunity to have some memorable times with good friends and family! In the end that's the best part.

Opinion: Alternative energy could be big job-maker for Michigan
JWheeler replied to News's topic in Great Lakes News
Probably a good idea! I watched a program last week about all sorts of alternative energy. There was one technique that used water for power, and it wasn't a damn. This technique use currents in the ocean to turn giant propellers to generate power. Regardless, this would be a good plan to generate some work in Michigan. A very green way to generate power. -
Not going in the woods til' saturday evening, just curious who's is biggest? so far...

That seems like a pretty logical tactic to check the wind direction before entering the woods. I am just starting my hunting career, and I will soak up any little tid bits of information that you all want to share... Good Luck

Good lookin' pups W.E.. I have some new information from a burton detective. Turns out the fella at the house where the pits came charging out of is only watching the dogs until he can find them a new home. The dogs are his sons, who has just recently passed. Now I don't know what to do, obviously he has broken a law. He was very apologedic and offered to pay for everything. Which is great, but, the fact remains that these 2 aggressive dogs should be put down in my opinion. As far a law suit against this man, it just doesn't seem right to me. I think that I am going to go to his house and chat with him about those dog's aggressive behavior and let him know that it happened once, and was lucky no one had been hurt. If these dogs aren't put down it will only be a matter of time before it happens again and the outcome may not be so good. I will tell him that I think the right thing to do is put down the dogs.

Ashland Report 11/10
JWheeler replied to kuk999's topic in Wisconsin Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Nice job on the fish. Any time you can get out this late in the season is a big bonus, even better is the fact that you were smackin' some fish. Wish it were me.... -
Frank, I did not think of any consequences with these 2 pits, I just reacted trying to ward them off. And you are right, I could've been in grave danger from these bastards. Just thankful my dogs and myself walked away with only a minor scrape. Had a conversation with my father tonight, and he was telling me about an incident he had way back when he was jogging. The bottom line is, if a dog shows aggression it can not and should not be tolerated! No one was hurt today, but what will happen next time? I believe that if they did it today, that it will only be a matter of time before it happens again.

I am furious. I own 2 siberian husky's that I love dearly. As often as possible for the last 4 years I will put on my rollerblades, put on their harnesses and take them for a stroll around the block. They love to pull me and it helps to exercise them so they are not annoying around the house. Today, like usual, I am making my way around my loop and some dogs are barking. Not uncommon, while walking dogs always bark as we go by. So we go past the house where the barks came from, when I hear this big bang. I turn around to look and what do I see, 2 pit bulls charging us at full speed:eek: What the hell can I do? These dogs bear down on us, as they get closer the white one bears his teeth and goes directly for smokey's jugular. I didn't have much of a choice, I was scared for myself, so I did what I had to do to get these pits to go away. At this point, there was no one out looking for their dogs, like they didn't even know the dogs were loose. I hightail back to my house, call the cops and head back to the area where it happened. As I am making my way down the road I see the 2 pits roaming freely through the neighborhood. At this point I was tempted to run them down, I did not, but the thought crossed my mind. Went down the road a little and talked to a fella who was out raking his leaves, the first thing out of his mouth was, "what if that happened to some kids?" Good question. So the police come over and give me my options. Criminal charges or civil lawsuit. I told him I would discuss it with my wife and we would make a decision. He mentioned that he was going to go to the house and talk with the owners of the dog. Apparently the officer went to the house knocked and rang the bell with no answer. I would think maybe they were looking for the dogs, must not been looking too hard as the officer had one of the dogs in the back of his car, but couldn't get the other to come. Now the officer calls me on the phone with the sound of disgust in his voice and says, "Mr. Wheeler, don't worry about filing any suits as I am going to file a criminal charge against the owners of these dog." Now this may not be popular but is my opinion, I have never liked, and never will like pit bulls. I know that what happened today can be pinned on the owner, but for 2 dogs to charge through a door and run us down the street I thought it was too aggressive. I am OK, my dogs are Ok, Smokey has a cut on his cheek, but nothing major. I am thinking it maybe a good idea to take some kind of beatin' stick with in case something like this happens again. One thought I had is what if I had fallen down while this was happening, I would bet I would've been taking an ambulance ride to the hospital. STUPID PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Silver One is on the right track. We use the 8" most of the time, but late in the year, Mid September, we started to use the larger (I think 10" fishcatcher) and found that to be one of the most productive set ups, off a rigger with a fly. We also found that the later it becomes in the year that a red SD & red fly combo was knocking the sh@# out of them, this was behind a dipsy. Good Luck...

I also keep most of the tools mentioned above on my boat, like said "you never know when you may need something." For the whole summer that box doesn't leave the boat, hate to forget it and then need it. Through the course of the summer I have been doing some maintenance, spark plugs, wires, cap, solonoid, etc...none of the things that I replace were bad/faulty, I did it for a piece of mind. When I am done putting on the new stuff, the old stuff is examined, and if in good shape it stays on board as well. I know it is the old stuff, but if ever in a jam it could save my a$$!!!! Good Luck...

I have heard something like this before. I heard at some marinas on the bay boats were literally sitting on the hard bottom. I had the boat in AuGres this past summer and never really gave it a thought. Does this happen in the AuGres area?

Yes Frank, I am a long ways from home. Tough to leave the wife and the newborn, but must make a living to support the family. Another beautiful day down here, not a cloud in the sky, and I am possibly now considered a redneck:grin:! 3:30 came awfully quick this morning. It is neat to see a completely different fishery, and see some different techniques. Apparently tide plays a key role as to the fishing. Motored through the marsh and ended up in some sort of almost bay like area. Funny how big the water was, but it was shallow most everywhere, 4-6'. Started off popping shrimp under a bobber. Worked well til' we ran out. Hit some Redfish, Sea Trout, Sheepshead (which is a totally different from michigan sheepshead), and there was one more we were catching, if memory serves me right it was a flounder. None the less we caught a nice mess of fish, can't wait to fry some up and eat em'. We hit several different spots, and almost every spot yielded at least a few fish. All in all, it was a great day. Fun to be out on the water. After the fishing we took a little tour of some of the devistation around the New Orleans area, all I can say is wow. It is hard to imagine it. It has been almost 2 years and it is still in ruins! Very, very sad... On to another day, and another dollar. Should rap things up around here hopefully by thursday. Can't wait to get home and see the rest of the clan. Not too mention just to be in the comfort of my own home...I do have some pics, but will wait til' I get back on the high speed to upload them. Good Luck...

Don't really know where to post this, so I suppose that this will do. Have travelled down here to southern Mississippi to do a tile job for a company that used to work out of Michigan. Sunday is a free day, and these guys love the outdoors as much as myself. We are leaving around 4:00a.m. to head down to the fishing hole. Not sure what to expect, maybe some Redfish and some speckled trout. None the less, the weather is great, was 81 yesterday, and today was a few degrees cooler. Hope to have a report tomorrow for ya's, and hopefully some picks of fish. I don't care what we catch, I'm done for the year at home, and I know it will just be good to be out. Til' tomorrow.

Trying to make friends? I don't think that is going to do it. I don't have a problem with the nets, but they do seem to be placed in an area that is prime salmon fishing. I guess what I would like to see is a little courtesy. And as far as cutting bouy's, yeah, that's smart!

I too received the same e mail today. I guess they heard we were pissed!!

J. A., Do you have any pics you can post. I have a friend looking for a new boat. I know that this would be right up his alley. Post a pic or two so I can mail it to him.

Called your numbers listed above. They informed me that they are being swamped with phone calls on this issue. That is good, means that there are a lot of people disgusted with this. Good Job

W.E. Appreciate the follow ups!!

3Bucks, you nailed it. Me and a buddy did it last year and I had no problems with it. But when you are talking about the potential to screw up an expensive piece of equipment, it may be better left to someone licensed and insured. My worry would be if I did it, or my buddy and something was to go wrong, well now I will end up covering the cost of the motor. Unless insurance would take care of it, but who wants to deal with that headache. I want to turn the key in the spring and go!!!! Thanks

What do you fisher's think a good price for winterizing an inboard boat motor is?
