Here it is, my 1987 Thompson 210 Fisherman. Planning on renaming her the "HUSKY JERK"......This will be my 3rd summer with her. The Fishlander triples are new to me, and I love them. Came with 4 walker Electric Riggers. FishHawk, Gps, and a Fishfinder. One thing I would love to put on would be a rocket launcher.

I love the hard top. My thompson has a hard top, my BIL has a soft top. While the soft top can help keep you dry, it doesn't do the job of a hard top. Like mentioned above, there is nothing like a hardtop to keep you dry. If I am scheduled to go on a fishing trip, I don't care if it is raining. You can stay dry at the helm, and a good rain suit will do the rest for you while you're setting lines.

Southern Lake Michigan

The Ho's were so much fun, 1st time hitting them that good. Has anyone been catching any kings? I know there are a few browns and steel around, just wondering where you might find some kings. -

Southern Lake Michigan

Found ourselves on Saturday 4/5 only a few miles from the Michigan/Indiana border. Fished from about 10:30 until about 3:00, and it was great. Hot n' Tots way back of the planers, storm thunderstick deep divers off the planers in a firetiger pattern were hot. Northport's spoons were taking a lot of hits of the riggers, one in particular took the most fish of the day. Few on the dipsy about 40-50 back on a 3 1/2 setting. Total for the day was 20 for 27:D http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=1650&c=2 http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=1649&c=2 Still need to work on posting picks.... -

A.B. has hit the nail on the head. I don't have much to add, my only contribution would be, that if you think something may work, try it. But A.B. has put together a recipe for a real .

Artificial Cut Bait Trolling Vid...........
JWheeler replied to SkeinMachine's topic in Fishing Videos
I concur, sweet video. Just what the doctor ordered:grin:. -
I put on triples on both port and starboard of my fiberglass boat. I would not go without some sort of backing under your gunnel. The simple fact is it will spread the load and sure things up. I know what an investment this is. Hate to see a couple of rod holders and a track system fly off the boat into the water.
-
I couldn't be more pumped up to get the boat and get it ready for the summer. I just received in the mail 38 new walleye spoons that are itchin' to get into the water. Boat season is upon us, won't be long now!!!!

The last 2 days of southwest winds have killed the ice. 3 days ago the inner bay appeared to be locked up pretty good, but with that south wind I knew it was the end. Thank God....Get that ice outta here..... On another note, P1, you are correct. The bay did claim the life of another fisher this week. It is sad, and I feel for his family. The bay ice is no joke, and it can become very dangerous instantly. Let's just hope that this is it for the year

Ice Fishing Port Sheldon
JWheeler replied to 2UNREEL's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Oh I don't see the fuss! I would do that, as long as it was out of someone else's boat. Fiberglass wouldn't be my 1st choice to bust through that ice, but what do I know?????? At least they got a nice steely, and made it back in with no problems. Not surprised to see that much ice in the channel. A westerly wind will push the ice back into the harbors. We need an east wind and some warm temps to get rid of that crap. -
I was just perusing some other web sites and I came across an article talking about bottom paint. I am planning on slipping my boat for the whole summer. I did last summer for 1 month with no problems. What do any of you that slip your boat do to the bottom? And about how much is the expense?

Lund tyee 1850 Downrigger set-up?
JWheeler replied to drathaar907's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
I would assume that it only has 2-3 colors on it. Have found in the past it is not good to clip an inline planer onto leadcore, as it weakens the core and can break easily. I always clip my planer to my backing. -
Welcome SC, this is a great site, and these guys are top notch.....looking forward to hearing some reports from ya. JW

Lund tyee 1850 Downrigger set-up?
JWheeler replied to drathaar907's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
Now this should make things easier, but sometimes it doesn't seem to help. I have #'ered each of my riggers. Mailbox #'ers. When a fish hits on the riggers we frantically yell the #. Clockwise 1-4 are my #'ers. Now it should be simple, but I have yelled 1 and people will have no idea, I kind of chuckle as they jump around the back of the boat looking for #1. I guess all of the excitement must get to some:lol:. It is easier for me and those who fish most with me, and I like it. Maybe the next thing would be to try and # the rest of my rod holders for dipsy's and leadcore. -
I take a majority right straight off the back. Like mentioned above, it scares the b'jesus out of me to see a fish start swimming toward dipsy and leadcore lines off the side. However sometimes the fish will dictate where they will be netted. And also like mentioned above, it sure helps to have someone who is seasoned running the net. A few greenhorns cost us quite a few fish last year, that will be the last time they net for me... It sucks the worse, when you have a fish to the boat only to be fouled up by a messy netter. My belief is that you only get one opurtunity to net a fish, after that you are real lucky to get it in the net. Anyone who misses a fish with the net on my boat is highly likely to hear about it, some people don't understand:angry2:

Talked with my good fishing buddy in Kzoo yesterday, told him we need to try and get out over the next couple of weeks. He agreed, and thought that New Buffalo would be the best bet, as he has had good success there early in the spring. Oh I can't wait!!!
-
No I have not fished lake Ontario. My Thompson 210 fisherman has a 4.3L v6 by chevy with cobra heads kicking out about 265HP, top end is around 38MPH. I know my v6 is not the most efficient and can suck gas down pretty good on a normal day of trolling. It is quite a nice boat when I've been in some of the rougher stuff. One day last year in Manistee we went out on Friday night in 5-7'ers which quickly turned into 8-10's, wasn't the most fun in the world, the boat took it, and we were catching fish, but I didn't stay out til dark, wanted to get in b4 it was dark so I could see what I was driving into. But I found the kicker motor for free, my buddy gave me a kicker mount for free, I already have a gas tank for it, and with rising costs of gas it is a no brainer.

P1, it is too bad about your friend. Never easy to hear about another's loss. I would hope that this is a wake up call for people on the bay to use extreme caution. As warmer weather approaches the conditions will worsen, and hopefully this kind of situation can be avoided. Sorry about your loss of a friend!!!
-
Bad to the bone, I am going to do the same thing on my boat, put on a kicker. I don't have a swim/cooler platform off the back yet, but, I am thinking that you would be able to make a few modifications/alterations to your platform you have already and still be able to use it and have a kicker.
