  1. I believe you can easily run more then eight rods at once. I would look into a quad tree on each side, with them you can use copper/leadcore off the planers. You can also run 2 dipsies/side, one on a #1 setting and 1 on a #3 setting. Now throw in your standard 2 downriggers that you have and I think you can easily run 14, but the key to this is to invest in a good set of trees. I bought a set this spring and they sure do make it easy to run the leadcore/copper. If you can manipulate the extra rod holder on the downrigger to work as dispy holder you can do that too. We've done it with the walkers when we need to and it works.
  2. Those are the breaks, nothing worse then planning on fishing on the big pond only to find uncooperative conditions. Come spring time we'll be hitting new buffalo also. I'll give you a buzz in the spring and maybe we can hook up and do some fishing.
  3. Another great day! How many more to the 600 mark?
  4. My good friend lives near Texas Corners, we love to hit New Buffalo in the spring too. We seem to have better luck there with Coho compared to St Joe. We will be hitting it again in the spring, check back with you around that time...
  5. The biggest thing is time, the more time you put in the better fishing will become. Advice and books can definitely get you headed in the right direction, but experience is the best teacher. You will learn more every time you go out, and figure out new things all the time, and finally come to a point where you think you have things pretty well dialed in, but fishing changes like anything else. Best luck, there are enough knowledgable fishermen on this site that can definitely shorten up the learning curve
  6. I would tend to agree with you, this time of year there is a major advantage in having an outboard. I'm hoping for a real cold early winter, and an early spring I just can't get enough of being on the water chasin fish.....
  7. So what do you do after you plan a whole day around fishing and it only takes 20 minutes to limit out????
  8. Now that's a pretty good rate of catching!!!:Dm Nice work out there.
  9. We have done good in the fall with squid on 10 color, but it is very hit or miss. Either it is on fire or absolutely dead.
  10. Appreciate that, will let him know. Looks like anothe beautiful morning to be on the water, not a whisper in the trees.
  11. Ya, it is almost like work out there. Secondly, boat traffic was murder last time out and 3rd the phishing really wasn't that good. LOL I just wish there was enough stable weather where you could get out more. Brother in law is still pretty fired up about the fishing last time out. Looking at trying again MON TUES WEDS of Thanksgiving week if the weather is doable. We filled 7 big ziplocs with meat with 17 fish, the bags were all full. We took the fish guts out behind the cabin and dump them by the big oak, yotes, bear, fox and other vermin have definitely been eating good up there.
  12. Frank that sounds great! You know my program is a little different then yours in the sense that I run a lot of spoons of my big boards, however I have had good success off my DR's as well hugging the bottom. I've been toying with the idea of adding a couple of different depths next year as well, they would cover 10' down and 5' down, I have done some reading and some people catch em in the top of the water column. But this will be experimental, and when the fish start talking and telling me what they want that always dictates my spread. Can't wait to see you out there next summer. I 'm already prepping Ashley to go. I ask her what do we say when we start catching fish, and she says (in the cutest possible voice) "FISH ON DADDY".
  13. Steve check out jay d's last few reports, they spell out what will catch fish out there. We only ran spoons off of DR's and leadcore. 130-200fow, good luck...
  14. Can't speak on the Frankfort area fishing this time of year. However, Manistee is 36 miles south of Frankfort and things have been great out of Manistee....
  15. Couldn't have asked for better weather, or better fishing. Talked with Jay and passed by them a few times today. There was some good action out there for sure today. We ended up 17/28 5 kings, and 12 steelhead!!!! ye ha!! The 1st 5 minutes were slow, and then the hits started coming, with consistent action for the next few hours. Awesome day!!!!!! Some phenomenal fishing out there!
  16. I concur, it looks marvelous. Cuddo's. Also like the fact that you can hit salmon reports and walleye reports.
  17. Jay, I have been looking at the forecast for the weekend too. My BIL is still debating going out of Manistee on Sunday also, if so we'll see you out there.
  18. AB, any ice forming along the bay yet? LOL...can't wait, won't be long, only seems like it. Keep up the bird blasting.

  19. Nice job Jay! Looks like some good ones in there...same recipe for success too. Great catch:D
  20. I have a couple in my box, and am pretty sure the others I fish with also have 2-3 in their arsenals. They have their time and place, I have never really "smoked" the fish on them. And they're not cheap.
  21. Done!
  22. I'm pretty sure I did just save some loot. Hope that dude will understand tomorrow. I was trying to make sure it was in stock so I don't have any issues. Was just about to put my CC# into bethel's order form.
  23. Yup, I was just comparing them on Ray Marines site and they're pretty much identical, with the exception of the screen.
  24. Yup, I was just lookiing at that site, and they don't have the 600 listed, but they do have a ds500x listed which seems to have similar attributes for $260. So I can buy a brand new 600 for $500 or a 500 for $260. What to do what to do?
