Took a day off of work on Friday to meet up in Au Gres with my crew. Kept an eye on the wind, and knew it was going to be rough, and it was. NNE winds 15-20 knots in the morning, but we were hell bent on prefishing for the Fireman's tournament.
Made our way to the fishing grounds and put out a spread of bouncers, inlines trailed by crawler harnesses. Didn't even bother turning on the kicker motor, just put the waves at the stern and drifted to the tune of 14 fish. We threw back #15 a couple of different times. Purples, perchs, pinks, and yellows stood out for us. Bouncers down n out over the side out fished inlines by a large margin.
Here's Friday's catch
Entered into the Fireman's Tournament with a shot gun start @ 0700. I think there were about 60 boats entered
We fished the same area that we fished Friday and started to put the boots to em' real quickly. 1st pass we had 6 decent fish in the box. We continued to grind it out. Had 10, and then we moved to some new water in search of the fish that was going to set us apart from the rest of the pack. We did upgrade with a decent fish, and had fantastic marks but we only pulled one. So we moved back to the area we started in and finished out our day, and actually end upgrading 2 more fish toward the end of fishing time. 19.87# for our 5, not monsters, but good enough to collect a check for 7th place. We were so whooped that we cleaned the fish before snapping a pic.
Some really nice eyes, and a lot of them, being taken out of Au Gres right now.
