  1. Tom, If you don't mind I have more few questions for you. 1. Have you ever taken it off fish ID? I just wonder how it works marking fish with out the fish ID. (Hooks) Do you primarily fish salmon? I see that you said something about fishing in 300fow. 2. Have you ever marked the thermocline with this unit? 3. Is the paddle for the speed including in the same housing mechanism as the transducer? When I was looking at the phamplet on line, it looked like it was. Didn't look to me like there was a separate paddle. 4. I read something in the pamphlet about being able to plug into chartplotters, GPS units. Is this just Raymarine products or can you use separate makes/models? Thanks for the input, Tom
  2. As you can see from my previous post I run an EagleSeacharter 480df. I'm in the process of getting my third transducer and I'm sick of having trouble with this unit year after year. So next winter/spring I'm seriously considering purchasing the raymarine ds500x. Does anyone have an opinion on this unit? Pro's/Con's. Thanks, Tom
  3. Probation Officer! Tom
  4. I know how you feel. After today, 1/2 day tomorrow and then on to Manistee for the pro/am. Can't wait...
  5. Finally broke down and called Lowrance and they said that I was getting a double echo. I haven't done it yet, but they said I need to adjust the depth reading when fishing that tight. Will have to see?? Tom
  6. Good fishing remained today, but couldn't get anything real big going. Took home nine, but threw back close to twenty-five sub-legal walleye. All fish except one came on spinners or spoons on bb. Caught one on a pink and blue latter back double downer eighty back. Tom
  7. Fished Sunday morning to mid-afternoon and took home 20 keepers with several throw backs and junk fish. Crawler harness still producing. Had to switch to plastic because we went through 4 dozen worms. Most fish came in 17-20fow east of the spark plug. Tom
  8. My seacharter is two-years-old and I have already replaced the transducer once. For some reason this year, I have noticed when fishing in close (less than 7fow) my depth reading will read twice the depth of what is should be. For example I'll run into 6fow get the right depth on the sonar and then it reads 12 fow. Or it will read 5.5 and then show 11fow. Any reason for this? I've also noticed that just before planing out from shallow water I'll read 200fow when sitting in 6fow. After I get out to about 7/8 fow everything is fine. No problems. Tom
  9. We fished the bay as well on Sunday and took home are 10, but caught fourteen with several cats thrown in the mix. All the harness took fish, but the hottest I think was chrome w/green blade and chrome/green blade. Long lining with #7 split shot and 3/4 oz bb were working. Tom
  10. Fished the east side of the bay this morning and took home eight to 21" with several throw backs, cats, and white bass. Perch colored spinners seemed to work best today. Tom
  11. Worked north of the man made island on Saturday night for a couple of hours. Tough going between the wind, waves, and rain storm. Managed to box four nice eyes. Two 17", one 19" and a 23". All fish came on spinners and crawlers. Tom
  12. Headed out for the shakedown cruise Friday night. Winds kept picking as we were heading out. Started out in front of the Kawkawlin and headed towards State Park. Too rough to get anything consistent. Speed/direction. Worked into 8ft of water around 845 or so and things calmed down. Had one fish on and lost it. Winds switched to the N/NW and called it. Wind continued to pick up on the way in and thought it would be for the best. Tried everything from rapalas, hot-n-tots, crawlers. Anywhere from 35-75 off the boards. Tom
  13. Up here walters = walleye. Tom
  14. Trolled Tawas Bay north of the pier today and took one brown on an F-11 Purple Perch. Also took a very nice smallie and lost another fish at the back of the boat. Stayed in 5-15ft of water all morning. Tom
  15. I heard the guy threw it back? That sounds fishy to me...
  16. I go on at least one or two every year with the same captain. Great time with great results (usually:rolleyes: )
  17. I use home made pinch pads that my dad and grandfather made over the years. I probably have close to 100 of these darn things. When one goes, I just get another. They might not be the best things I've seen, but they sure are inexpensive. Tom

    Gas

Gas has been up and down over the past week around here. First it was around 2.20 and then it went up to 2.55 and then back down to 2.44 and now today it is back up even higher to 2.59. This is all in about six or seven days. It's only going to get worse... Tom
  19. I have the Eagle Seacharter 480df. Love the detail and picture quality, but not sure how well it works picking up the thermocline? At times I think I have picked it up, but most of the time, I don't. Had one problem with it the year I bought it (2004) and they (Eagle) replaced the transducer no questions asked. I would really like to upgrade next year and was thinking about another Eagle. I like the looks of the seacharter 642. I too would like to hear what sonar's pick up thermocline.
  20. For flies, meat heads, crawler harness, I use finesse bags from Bass Pro. Keeps everything separated in plastic bags. Tom
  21. I guess I started the same thread in the wrong forum. Any advice on the E. side ports? Any particular one you like better? I am thinking about Augres, Tawas and Pt. Austin. Tom
  22. I am really starting to get the itch for open water fishing again. I have really only targeted browns once a couple of years ago in Manistee and did not have any luck. I would like to stay closer to home and try Augres, Tawas, or Pt. Austin. Couple of questions though, any opinion on which was is better and what is your method to catching these fish? I used stick baits, (f-11,13, Bomber's long A, husky jerks, etc...) Also threw some spoons out as well. What's the ideal speed most of you run? I am thinking about taking the small boat (weather permitting) in late March or early April. I don't think I will have the other boat ready? Thanks, Tom
  23. They just had Dan Keating featured in this months GL Angler magazine and this months In-Fisherman magazine. I believe his book is some where around $24.00? I know he does a lot of seminars and they really speak highly of him on glanglers web site...
  24. I believe it was just handed down that Chad Knause (sp?) has been suspended for three more races?? Tom
  25. Kenseth got screwed... A top five car for sure!! 17
