Thinking about hitting Port Sanilac Saturday
sslopok replied to sslopok's topic in Lake Huron Discussion
Truck and boat are loaded to head head to port sanilac in am. Pretty pumped out to start my big water education. Read books, watched videos, looked at thousands of posts on here. Now it is time to put it to use. Thanks Guys. -
It is exactly the same as mine. I have a 9.9 merc prokicker too. The only diff is my main is 125. Not a very common boat.

Thinking about hitting Port Sanilac Saturday

Thanks for the info Tim. What depth should I be targeting right now and how far out would that be? Maybe I will run a board on each side as well with body baits. I would rather catch salmon/lakers over walleye anyday! I will get my walleye fix Sunday on the bay. I want to catch some fish that put up a fight. -
I was going to hit the Saginaw Bay Saturday but I really want to try my luck on the big pond. Just got boat rigged and want to try everything out. I have never fished salmon/trout from my own boat so I need to get learning. I will be running 2 riggers and 2 dipsy divers until I get that under control. So instead of sag bay I am going to head over to Port Sanilac Saturday morning. Any tips you are willing to give me will be appreciated and guarded with my life. Are there any tournaments going on right now there? I don't want to mess with all the ramp traffic if there is. I will save my saginaw bay trip for Sunday. Thanks

Nice job! -
No more garage fishing for me. Boat is ready to go! I do need new shift/throttle cables for the 125 merc main motor. That is gonna be more work as the control box is not easily accessible. Reverse is really stiff.
-
Well the new cables came today. Got the control box done and wires ran again. Just need to hook up kicker end. Think they got it right this time. Headed back out to finish up. Will be on water this wekend. Todd, is yours a monark king 190? Had it out last fall perch fishing on saginaw bay and it seemed to handle waves real nice. Lot deeper v than my old lund.
-
Sorry about your brother Sherman. Sounds like you have a lot of great memories to remember him by.

Bought my boat last fall. Been rigging it all winter. Ordered shift/throttle cables for my kicker 1.5 months ago from local marine shop. Figured out they were the wrong ones after getting them hooked into control box and routing them. Wrong hookups at kicker end:( Took them back and they reordered the 2nd set. Go to pick them up after waiting a few weeks------->wrong ones again. If these next ones are wrong it's 3 strikes their out. Always try to buy local but get kicked in the groin most of the time. Not to mention buying local usually means paying a lot more than buying online. I am chomping at the bit to get out and try this big pond stuff. But I am stuck finding stuff to do to the boat while it sits in garage.

I went to northwoods on Friday and bought an led light that looks like a t.v. remote and had about 30 bulbs. It was 5.99. We'll see how good it does.

Track Mounted Rod Holder Suggestion
sslopok replied to Liberty800's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
That expalins the cut out at the bottom. I don't think you will find a more stout rod holder and now that I know how they work for dipsy's they look even better. Jeff should prob call Hicks Bait and Tackle in Clio and tell them how they work for dipseys as they had the same concern as I did. thanks -
Track Mounted Rod Holder Suggestion
sslopok replied to Liberty800's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
I checked out the bluewater holders look like a quality piece but I am not sold that they will not slip if using them with dipsys. They were 80 bux at local hunting/fishing store. -
I just finished installing a cobra f75 last night. I used a basic 8' Shakespeare antenna(pn 5206 I believe). I am hoping it works well. Wondering if I should have bought a better antenna?

Where is the cumings shop in Flint? I only live 20 minutes from Flint. Took a look at some cumings nets at hicks bait and tackle in clio. Most of the nets were geared towards walleye though. The one I did like only had a 3 foot handle. Would like to have one with alteast a 6 ft. Thanks Guys

I need a net for salmon/trout fishing. Being a newbie, I have no idea what size hoop the net should have. I know I need I long handle but that's about it. Saw a beckman that looked tough as heck. Had a really deep net and a stout aluminum handle. Thanks, Brandon

Spent spring break on Marco Island, fl. Caught a bunch of Jacks, lady fish, catfish, mackeral, sharks, blue runners, and some others I couldn't identify. It was fun having a canal leading to the ocean right in the backyard. Saw a manatee, southern stingray, dolphins, an a monster tarpon right off the dock. Took a charter one day and it was brutal. Only caught a few mackeral, and 3 bonnet sharks. Coolest thing was a 5 foot barracuda stealing our catches by the boat. Hope you enjoy your vacation!

The screen on mine turned out to be bad from the factory. Gander exchanged it for me.
-
Good job on the fish! That boat looks a lot like mine I have a 190 king monark with the same paint and decals. Brandon

This place has a seal coat available called uv blast. Never used it though. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/fishing-lure-paint/

I have installed 2 newer humminbirds and they are a breeze to install, The first one I installed took a few hours and the one I just installed last week took less time. That was with removing and replacing a panel to nicely hide the wiring.
