Scientists in England have developed a tiny pill that can kill the Zebra mussel, an invasive species that's threatening native species and damaging the environment. A team of scientists working at Cambridge University have produced a pill or "biobullet" which can be administered to waterways infested by the non-native freshwater Zebra mussel. The tiny "pills" are microcapsules laced with potassium chloride and are taken in through the filter-feeding mechanism of the mussels and release the chemical, which slowly kills the mussel. The microcapsules are harmless to other organisms. Zebra mussels reproduce so much that their colonies can cover virtually all solid surfaces in some rivers and cause industrial problems by clogging pipe inlets and drains. They can also out-compete other mussel species. Zebra mussels are a major aquatic pest in the USA. A severe infestation at Lough Erne led to industrial modifications to the area's water treatment unit costing over £100,000. A small number of specimens were found in Northern Ireland's Lough Neagh in November 2005. The Zebra mussel is considered one of the world's top 100 invasive species and is native to the Caspian Sea in Eastern Europe.

The U.S. fiscal 2007 federal budget contained an overall reduction of about 1% for non-military discretionary programs, though included a 14% increase in Department of State discretionary programs. The following is a preliminary report about how the budget affects the Great Lakes Fishery Commission and the sea lamprey control program. The budget reduces the Great Lakes Fishery Commission’s funding from $14.4 million to $12.1, million, a cut of $2.3 million or 15%. (The Lake Champlain add-on of $500,000 was also eliminated.) The commission notified the US government that a total US contribution of $18.9 is needed in fiscal 2007. If the budget passes Congress, the commission will be forced to make significant reductions in the sea lamprey control program at a time when sea lamprey abundances are on the rise in many areas of the Great Lakes. Approximately 15 priority streams will be dropped from the treatment list.

This keeps things even all accross the board. There is an unfair advantage having a 4th person in the boat. If you have a double or a triple on, there is an extra body in the boat to net fish or steer the boat.

I am thinking about putting together a 3 man tournament. This will be the only one I put on this year. There will be a $50 entry fee to enter the tourney, and an optional $5 big fish fee. You have to have 3 people in the boat, no less, no more. Only 9 fish will be allowed to be weighed in. If enough people are interested, I will pursue it further.

On a more serious note, I would look for the temperature break, and start there.

There are a lot of variables that have an affect on the depth/lure color equation. Sunny day or cloudy day, position of the sun(time of day), calm day or choppy day, and water color. These depths are not set in stone. All they are is a guide. The actual depther the color is visible at is directly affected by the above variables. red will be visible from 0' - 30' orange will be visible from 0' - 45' yellow will be visible from 0' - 60' green will be visible from 0'- 80' blue willl be visible from 0' - 100' purple will be visible from 0' - 120' Generally what happens when you fish a color deeper than the depth it will show, it becomes black or gray depending on the lure color. Glow in the dark lures will help in the deeper depths. I am no expert on this. If any of you would like to share some info on this, please feel free to add to the thread.

I have a map of the lake on the wall at home and throw a dart at it. I enter the gps cordinates of where the dart hit and start there. Just an FYI, do not throw the dart if you have been drinking. It is a long run to Wisconsin to start fishing j/k

What are you looking for when you shut down and start setting lines? I know...I shut down where I caught fish yesterday. Are you looking for water temp, depth, baitfish?

Still has open-water fishing. Fair to good yellow perch fishing continues off the dock at Metro Park Marina and in the canals. Perch rigs with shiner minnows continue to work best.

The one draw back I see with some inboards is the engine compartment in the middle of the fishing area

How does everyone rig their boat with lighting for fishing after dark? What are you using for lights? How do you see your rods? How do you see the fish in the water to net it? Questions, questions, questions.....
