There are probably as many releases as there are fishing bait manufactures. What's everyone's preference on rigger releases?

What is structure underwater? Underwater structure can be many things. It can be a single rock, massive rock pile, sunken boat or ship, weed patch, underwater hump, or even a drop off. Any irregularity on the bottom surface is structure. What does this have to do with salmon fishing? Plenty! Not all salmon swim the open water chasing schools of baitfish. Alewifes are not the only fish salmon eat. As the alewife population dwindles, salmon will look for alternative food sources. Baitfish will relate to structure. If you was to dive down to an underwater rock pile, you will find bait fish. Where there is prey, there are predators. I am not saying every piece of structure holds prey all of the time. Some structures are better than other's. Find two structures together and you are on to something. What do I mean? If you find a rock pile on a drop off, or a point on the drop off, you have two structures that intersect. These area's are fish magnets. You also have to take water temperature into account. You probably will not find salmon on a piece of structure in 30' of water if the temperature is 60 degrees. Find the structure at your target depth and you will find fish. A quality lake chart, quality fish finder and a GPS are necessities for fishing structure underwater effectively. Keep an eye on your fish finder when fishing. If you find a piece of structure on your fish finder, mark it on your GPS. Also watch for fish to show up around it. You may have to make a couple of passes over it in several directions to get the fish that are relating to it. Underwater current plays a role in how fish relate to the structure. Just like a rock in a river, underwater structure create's current breaks. I am not saying to abandon your way of fishing, I am just putting another feather in your cap. If you are not having any luck in the open water, give it a try. GLF

Michigan Department of Natural Resources officials today announced the spring schedule for the Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery Visitor Center near Kalamazoo. Beginning March 1, the visitor center's hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The center will be closed on Mondays. "We are in the process of signing up a number of school groups who will visit the hatchery during April and May," said Wolf Lake Interpreter Shana McMillan. "Other groups and families should contact us ahead of time to get information about the availability of guided hatchery tours." Activity at the hatchery really begins to increase with the arrival of new walleye, muskellunge, steelhead trout and northern pike eggs during the first two weeks of April, McMillan said. "Hatching time varies by species. For example, it takes only 10 days for the northern pike, but up to 30 or 35 days for steelhead," she said. Northern pike then are reared at the hatchery for only another 10 days before they will be stocked in various inland lakes and rearing ponds. Steelhead will stay at the hatchery for a full year where they will grow to seven to eight inches in length. Last year's steelhead, now yearlings, will be stocked this April in several rivers and streams that flow into the Great Lakes. Wolf Lake will again offer its popular summer fishing program, when children ages 5 to 16 can take part in catch-and-release fishing every Saturday from June through August, and the center's annual Fish Festival is scheduled for July 15-16. The Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery Visitor Center is located in Mattawan, at Hatchery Road and M-43, six miles west of the junction of M-43 and US-131. For information, contact Shana McMillan at (269) 668-2876.

Rich, I think the problem was because that image never uploaded correctly. I am not sure. Normally, all you have to do is click on the picture you wish to delete. On the right side it near the top, it says "Image Tools". Click on "Image Tools", and select delete image.
