Welcome to the site Steve. Glad you decided to come out of the closet and do an introduction. If you need anything, just give a yell.
Now get out there and fish
Quick question for everyone. Who's home page does not display correctly now? My displays(I have two of them on this pc) are set to 1280 x 1024 pixels and the home page is normal. At work, the display is 800 x 600 pixels and it does not display correctly. I am trying to keep the home page as neat and professional as possible. I will play with a couple of settings to see if I can over come the issue with different display sizes.
My wife and I have 2 small boys, 4 and 1. My wife works weekends, and I watch our boys on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. We get a sitter of Fridays while I am at work. Every so often I have to work weekends and get a sitter. I do not like paying someone to watch our boys so I can play(fish). By the time you throw in for a share of the gas, and lunch, it adds up. If they were old enough, I would take them with me. Does anyone know of any week day/night leagues?
I have read several articles about using light line. Author of a book even mentioned using 8lb test. Whats the lightest line you fish the big lake with?
Whats everyone's spring spread? How many rods do you fish? Are you running riggers, high lines, planers, lead core(2,3,half, full)? What are your favorite baits and colors for spring?

Due to poor ice conditions fishing activity has been slow. Those anglers that are still heading out onto the ice at the head of the Bay are catching a mix of smelt, perch, herring and coho. A few rainbow trout have been taken in L’Anse out from the marina and at Perch Corner. Extreme caution should be used as ice conditions in the Bay range from fair to poor.
Ice conditions in the bay are fair. Caution must be used as some areas are on the thin side. Fishing at Munising has been slow for whitefish and splake, while coho fishing has been spotty. Coho fishing should pick up in the coming weeks. A reminder to anglers to use extreme caution and check ice conditions carefully before venturing out for coho, herring, whitefish, splake and lake trout.
Boat anglers are catching plenty of brown trout. The boat launch ramps are not in place as of this report. Shore anglers had success with brown trout and steelhead while casting Rapalas or Cleo’s in the area from Train Bridge upstream to First Dam. The pan fish catch has been slow, with some smaller size perch being caught at the Menekaunee Boat Harbor.
Very strong winds kept most boaters off the water. A few boaters did manage to rough the weather near the Upper Harbor. Most anglers reported fishing to be very slow with only an occasional coho or brown trout being taken. Shore anglers have caught a few coho or rainbow trout off the coal dock or Mattson’s Park wall.
The only accessible areas for ice fishing are in the north arm near Kewadin. The rest of the lake is open water. A couple lake whitefish were caught on the north end of the lake in 36 feet of water using spawn fished off the bottom.
The ice is breaking up along the shorelines and the canals are starting to open up. Overall fishing has been slow with only a few reports of bluegill being caught along the south shore.
Plenty of ice still remains on the lake. Smelt are still being caught near the North State Park on wax worms or spikes. Plenty of perch are being caught near the Sunken Island. Use caution as the ice can be unpredictable.
Boat and shore anglers are catching good numbers of brown trout in 3 to 12 feet of water. Those trolling are using Rapalas off planer boards. Shore anglers are casting with Rapalas and still fishing with minnows.
In the inner bay, all streams are reported to be high and muddy, but are coming down and clearing up. No boat anglers reported in the bay except for a few near Au Gres. These anglers are fishing around White Stone Point and Foster Road where there was a report of a walleye being caught. It’s a bit early for the perch in the cuts, but anglers are targeting them in the marina basins around the bay.
Is muddy up near Port Huron. A few brown trout and steelhead have been caught between Port Huron and Lexington. Anglers are dipping for smelt along the boardwalks in Port Huron with no luck. A few walleye have been caught near Algonac in the deeper holes. Try vertical jigging minnows with a twister tail.
