Just wanted to remind everyone about the chat tonight. It starts around 8pm EST. I am going fishing with Heavy Action tonight after work, so I will be late getting there.

Put your mark on the map where you are located. There is a button for guys, gals, and person with a boat. Select which one and enter your location. Link no longer working.

I am not a charter captain, but I do have a few questions for your guys. On weekends I am sure a lot of you are running multiple charters all weekend long. When to you put fuel/gas in your boat? Do you do it with a charter on board?

Thanks for the results fishn. Did you fish in it? How did you do?

Aim To Bring Atlantic Salmon Back To Lake Ontario TORONTO — The province and its partners are working to restore Atlantic salmon to Lake Ontario, Natural Resources Minister David Ramsay announced last week. “Research has shown that some streams flowing into Lake Ontario can provide the habitat young Atlantic salmon need to thrive,†said Ramsay. “By restoring Atlantic salmon we are improving Ontario’s biodiversity and providing a healthier environment for humans with an abundance of natural resources.†Restoring the Atlantic salmon is a partnership among the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, Australia’s Banrock Station wine company and the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. Initial stocking efforts will focus on Duffins Creek, the Credit River and Cobourg Creek because of their high-quality spawning and nursery habitat, and strong community support. The province and partners will stock about 400,000 Atlantic salmon fry and fingerlings this spring and fall. Another 50,000 will be stocked next spring. “It's exciting to see another great result from the LCBO environmental strategy to reduce package waste and help preserve Ontario's natural heritage,†said David Caplan, Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal and Minister responsible for the LCBO. “By funding projects like this one to help restore Atlantic salmon, LCBO customers, employees and suppliers are making a tangible contribution that will have wide ranging environmental benefits throughout the Lake Ontario watershed.†The partners are contributing $1.5 million or services to help move ahead with Atlantic salmon restoration over the next five years. Funding will go toward enhanced fish production, research and monitoring, habitat rehabilitation and stewardship initiatives. The Ministry of Natural Resources will set direction for restoration and the ministry’s fish culture program will continue to play a significant role in raising the fish required for restoration as well as provide expert advice to our stocking partners. The ministry will also continue to provide strong scientific and technical support to restoration efforts. Atlantic salmon are recognized as an important part of the natural and cultural heritage of the Lake Ontario basin, and a good indicator of environmental health. Atlantic salmon disappeared from Lake Ontario by the late 1800s mainly because of habitat loss in streams. The ministry renewed a long-term program in 1995 to restore self-sustaining populations of Atlantic salmon to Lake Ontario.

Thanks for the report Larry! Nice to hear you got your greenies on some fish. -
I found a turkey nest yesterday evening on the edge of my property. It has 11 eggs in it. Today I set up my Cudde Back digital trail camera over looking the nest. Hopefully the camera does not spook her away. I will check the nest daily to make sure she has not abandoned it. I can get close enough to where I can see the nest without spooking the hen. With the camera being on the nest, I will be able to see how many times she leaves the nest per day, how long she is gone when she leaves, and when she returns. I will also be able to tell if anything(turkey or whatever) visits. This should be an interesting study. Who knows how many days it takes for a turkey egg to hatch?

How do you know when to fish a magnum or regular size spoons? Regular in the spring, magnum in the fall? Or, do we check the bellies of our catch and base our decision on that?
-
I guess you can say you eliminated a lot of unproductive water. You will get them next time.

Thanks for the report Ed!

Here are a couple of things to consider when booking your charter. What are you expecting out of the trip? Do you just want to reel in fish? Are you wanting to get involved with setting the lines? Some Captain's, may let you run the gear. Speak with the Captain and let him know what you are expecting out of the trip. Myself, I am a hands on guy and like to have my hands on everything. When out on your trip ask questions. Lots of questions. Do not be afraid to ask a dumb question. More than likely, that question has been asked before. You are the one paying for the trip, you might as well learn everything you can.

Thanks for the answer John. I have been out on a 31' Tiara. I have to agree with you on this. It is one of the best fishing boats on the big lake. Do your charters ever bawk when you say 4 to 6 footers....lets go.

I had a home owner come down on his dock and start yelling at me telling me I could not fish there. I know the laws on where I can and can not fish. I held up my cell phone and said he can call the dnr or the sheriff if he likes. He turned around and stormed away.

Anglers in Michigan have the right to enjoy their sport free from unreasonable and deliberate obstruction or interference. Michigan law prohibits individuals from obstructing or interfering with the lawful taking of fish. Individuals, whose fishing is being obstructed, should promptly report the violation to the DNR toll free complaint line at 1-800-292-7800, a local conservation officer, or the nearest DNR office. Angler harassment is a misdemeanor offense. Law enforcement officers may issue a citation for violations which take place in their presence, or may arrest with a warrant obtained on information provided by the affected angler. When reporting any physical or other deliberate anti-angler confrontation, anglers should note the following points; who, what, where, when, and how. The Angler being harrassed should not under any circumstances become involved in a physical confrontation with any individual. If you are harassed you should inform the harasser of your feelings and request the harassment to stop.

The DNR continually evaluates the migration, survival, and harvest of various fish stocks to provide more and healthier fish to sport anglers. This evaluation involves the marking of fish with a fin clip, external tag, or an internal tag. You might take a fish bearing an external tag with the letters DNR, WIDNR, IDNR, IDC, FWS, or OMNR inscribed. If you catch one of these fish, please record the following information and notify the nearest Fisheries office: species, length, weight, sex (if possible), date and location caught, and fin clip or tag number. If releasing the fish, please do not remove the tag. A very important study where Michigan anglers can help is that of tracking Great Lakes salmon and trout species. Many of these fish have been marked with a small coded-wire tag, invisible to the naked eye, implanted in the head of the fish. Fish with these tags can be identified by the absence of the adipose fin. If you should catch a trout or salmon with ONLY its adipose fin missing, that fish could have such a tag. Please record the information cited above, freeze only the head and take it with the data to (or notify) the nearest Fisheries office More information is located here. Marked and Tagged Fish
