  1. Mussels carrying botulism E suspect Some people might wonder what's the big deal about a large die-off of mud puppies in the Detroit River and Lake Erie? After all, the lizardlike, foot-long predaceous salamanders are less than adorable. "Mud puppies are kind of like the canaries in a mine," said Gary Towns, a research biologist in the Livonia office of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources who is trying to figure out why so many of these pre-dinosaur, evolutionary relics have died in the past few weeks. "They seem to be very sensitive to pollutants and water quality. But we really don't know yet what's causing this, or what it might mean long term." http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060723/SPORTS10/607230644/1048/SPORTS
  2. Every month I read Salt Water Sportsman and Florida Sportsman, two of the best angling magazines anywhere, to keep up with what's happening in the Gulf Coast and Florida waters that were my haunts from childhood through an adulthood stint as the outdoors writer at the Miami Herald. Since moving back to Michigan 16 years ago, I have watched from a distance, and sampled at least annually, a Florida saltwater fishery that has roared back from the nadir of the 1980s. It was Florida that started the recovery ball rolling 16 years ago when a 10-year battle by anglers, led by Florida Sportsman, pressured the legislature to outlaw commercial netting in inshore waters http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060720/SPORTS10/607200376/1048/SPORTS
  3. The hemorrhagic septicemia strain poses no threat to humans A deadly virus found in two fish species in the northeastern United States last month appears to have spread to two more species, scientists said today. Meanwhile, hundreds of fish in Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River have died in recent weeks, but officials are not yet sure if the newfound virus is behind the kills. Last week, an estimated 1,000 dead fish washed up on the shores of Lake Ontario in just one morning. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/13958138/
  4. Not true. We rented a 2005 impala and it did not have it. I know...because I explained it to the engineer I went on a trip with, that all new cars had the arrow. He made it a point to point it out that it did not have one. Boy was I wrong
  5. Who can tell me why car manufacturers do not put gas caps on the same side for all cars? This would eliminate a lot of conjestion at the pumps.
  6. Anyone with AOL dial up willing to help me out? All it is is a functional test.
  7. I am guessing we would have a fish fry at your house
  8. The reports I have been seeing up and down the lake seem to all agree that there are lots of bait fish this year. I have cleaned fish with empty stomaches and I have cleaned fish that could not hold another bait fish. A lot of time and effort is put into predicting the number of predator/prey in the lake. I do not think anyone will ever be able to predict an accurate number of each. Just think of how many angry fisherman you have if you botched the numbers. I am glad its not my job to come up with the numbers.
  9. Studies blame high-rise hotels, temperature changes From his seventh-floor office at the State University of New York at Buffalo, Marcus Bursik can watch the mist rising from Niagara Falls, about 20 miles away. In size and shape, the mist resembles the volcano plumes Bursik studies as his primary topic of research. Noticing that the dimensions of the Niagara plume changed from day to day, he decided to investigate them. Across the border in Canada, the Niagara Parks Commission was doing the same thing for a different reason: Over the past decade, the number of misty days had more than doubled. The mist may have looked nice from a distance, but it was spattering patios, ruining Kodak moments and chasing tourists under awnings and umbrellas. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060720/NATION/607200344/1020
  10. Erie County city plans boat ramp on riverfront HURON, Ohio - Boating access to Lake Erie will open up with the purchase of a grain-handling facility and the 19.8-acre peninsula it sits on as part of Huron's ambitious plan to continue its riverfront development. The $3.25 million purchase, lauded yesterday by Gov. Bob Taft and a bevy of state and local officials, is expected to turn the former ConAgra Foods Inc. site near the mouth of the Huron River into a boat ramp that will provide additional access to popular Lake Erie fishing grounds. http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060719/NEWS17/607190397/-1/NEWS
  11. I have hunted over bait before. What I noticed, is that the deer are much more alert of whats going on around them when at a bait pile. Find out where the deer are coming from and set up on their travel route
  12. I am chasing a flash chat issue. I need some AOL users, who are on dial up, besides Catfishoge to test Fish Chat/flashchat to see if it is working for them. What I need is for you to click on the "Fish Chat" in the upper navbar and tell me if it opens up the flash chat window properly or if you get a blank white screen. Please respond to this thread with your results. Thanks Mike
  13. I uninstalled the latest version of the chat room software and went reinstalled the previous version. Hopefully that fixes everyone's chat room problems. If you are still having chat room issues, please let me know. Mike
  14. I am working to address issues with the chat room. Looks like it will be down for the night. Mike
  15. Sorry Darrin, I do not have a clue

  17. What you like to see for an entry fee for the big fish contest?
  18. I will be at the outing and fishing the tourney on Sunday. There will be a BIG fish contest only for the outing. There is a $10 entry fee for the big fish contest. If people would like to make it $20 instead of $10 to get in the BIG fish contest, we can do that instead. Weigh in for BIG fish will be at 5PM. Payback will be determined by how many participate. Who is planning on making the outing and getting in the BIG fish contest?

My wife asked me to oil the hinges and locks on her car(2004 Grand Prix). So being the good husband that I am....I jumped right to my feet and ran out to the garage. OK...I may have set around for a while first. Anyways...I squirted the drivers side hings and lock with some WD-40 and headed around to the passenger side. Guess what? There is no key lock on the passenger side? We have had this car for over 2 years and this is the first time I noticed this. Any other GM cars without key locks on the passenger side?
  22. Is this the one you are looking for? I found it on this website. http://dlund.20m.com/dick7.html

  24. CHARLEVOIX -- A dispute over what could be the Great Lakes' most historic shipwreck has taken an ugly turn, with both sides filing briefs for yet another round in court, and the state trying to shut off fund-raising for the exploration company that claims to have found the wreck. Meanwhile, at a news conference today, a team of marine archaeologists will release a report that gives the first scientific evidence that the wreck could be of the long-lost ship. At the least, the report does not rule out the idea that the Griffon has been found. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060717/NEWS05/607170337
