  6. Alleges lead ammo will break water law Upset with a U.S. Coast Guard plan to hold live-fire training drills on the Great Lakes, a Duluth-based environmental group threatened Thursday to return fire. Citizens for Environmental Enforcement notified the Coast Guard it will file a Clean Water Act citizen lawsuit in two months if the military doesn't back off. http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/living/15802368.htm
  7. Something about having a new boat and wanting to use it made me make a foolish decision yesterday. It was a last minute decission that I made at work, so I took a 1/2 day off and went out by myself. The lake was 3-5's. After I was out there, I got thinking about what a stupid decission I had made to fish by myself in those kind of conditions. If I would have fallen over, it would have been a done deal. Anyways....I had my three lines set by the time I hit the end of the piers. Once I hit the end of the piers, I turned into the waves. Right away, an in-line board popped. So...I hooked up the bungee cord to the wheel, reeled it in, tightend the screw and sent it back out. A bungee cord is a poor man's auto pilot and does not keep the boat going into the waves for long. It was not but a couple of minutes after that, and another board popped. Same deal again. After the third time this happened, I pulled the lines with planer boards, and put out two divers and a lead core without a board. Problem solved, no boards popping. I could control the boat speed going into the waves, and taking them on the side. When I went with the waves, I could not slow the boat below 3.6 on the GPS. After an hour of bouncing around and not knowing what depth I was at, I realized what a foolish decission I had made to fish by myself in 3-5's! I decided it was time to pull lines and try my luck in Muskegon Lake. I set two lines on planers and was hoping to pick up a walleye or pike. There are so many weeds floating around on Muskegon Lake, after 5 minutes of fishing and cleaning weeds from the baits multiple times, I decided it was time to gas the boat and get it ready to be pulled. I will get them next year!

    Tips

Seems like every place you go has a cup out for a tip. Sub shop, ice cream shop, Star Bucks, etc, etc, etc.... If I want to tip someone, that is my choice, I do not want to see a cup stuck in my face or something on my receipt telling me how much I should tip.
  9. How many of you have filled your boat at a marina? I filled the boat yesterday at a marina before I have it pulled for the winter. On my receipt it showed how much I should tip for 10%, 15%, or a 20% tip. Gas is $3.04 per gallon at the marina. The one tank got over filled and there was gas all over the side of my boat. I did not leave a tip. How many of you leave a tip when you have your boat filled at a marina?

  13. For those that may not know, we sold our other house(It had been on the market for 2 years). This put us in a position so we could purchase a boat. We purchased a boat, the day after we closed on the other house. There is not a name on the back of the boat. I have a couple of names I was considering. One is GLF The second is Great Lakes Fisherman Would I be in the wrong to name it Great Lakes Fisherman ? What's everyone's thoughts on/for a name?
  14. Yep, thats me. We went for our maiden voyage today. The boat is not rigged except for some rod holders. There is no depth finder either. I set a few lines before we hit the end of the piers. Made a left turn out of the piers, went about 50 yds and the wife said she was ready to go So....I made a small loop back around and headed in. Nothing to show for my 15 minutes of trolling. I did see a few boats out in deeper water. I am guessing they were in around 100 fow.
  15. Nice fish! What did you get it on?

    Boat

The boat's mechanical's, stringers and transom were looked at by a marine service tech from Onekama. We closed on our other house on Friday. I picked this boat up on Saturday. This winter I will be pulling both out drives and replacing the engine coupler($250) on the one side and greasing the other. I will be installing new water pump impellers in both lower units also.
  17. What port were you surf fishing at?
  18. Do you know if these were steelhead? What were they catching them on? Welcome to Great Lakes Fisherman. Mike

  20. Bummer....I had to rebuild a couple of sites do to operator error when I first got into being a webmaster 3 years ago. I have the site hosted with a host that does a nightly back up of the database/server. Plus, I frequently do my own back up of the database. Restoring the site is just a couple of clicks of the mouse button when you have the database backed up.
  21. Thanks for all the reports you posted this year. We look foreward to seeing them next year.
