Rule affects industry, bait shops Transport of live fish among the Great Lakes states and their importation here from the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec - an industry valued at tens of millions of dollars annually - came to a screeching halt this week with a federal order aimed at preventing the spread of a virus that kills fish. The order, issued by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, caught Great Lakes state fisheries authorities by surprise when it went into effect Tuesday. http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061027/NEWS06/610270345/-1/NEWS

Shift Cable/Cutout Lever Adjustment - Mercury I/O
GLF posted a topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
1. Shift remote control into the full forward/throttle position. 2. Remove shift cable attaching hardware from shift plate assembly. 3. Shift drive unit into full forward by moving the shift lever to the rear (stern) of boat as far as it will go. While shifting, turn propeller shaft counterclockwise until shaft stops, ensuring full forward position. 4. Adjust and attach remote control shift cables as follows: a. Lightly pull brass barrel away from cable end guide (to eliminate slack in cable). b. Adjust brass barrel to align cable end guide with fixed stud on shift lever and brass barrel with anchor stud on shift plate. c. After remote control shift cable has been aligned with anchor studs, back brass barrel off 4 turns (away from cable end guide). d. Install shift cable on studs and retain with flat washers and stop nuts (removed in Step 2). Tighten fasteners finger-tight only. 5. Move remote control shift handle to full reverse position while turning propeller shaft clockwise until shaft stops, ensuring full clutch engagement. 6. Check shift cutout lever position. If lever is not in the neutral position (shift roller not in the center of the lever notch), remove stop nuts and washers and adjust remote control cable brass barrel one turn at a time (4 tuns MAXIMUM) toward end guide until switch is centered. Reinstall washers and stop nuts. 7. Tighten cable end guide attaching nut until it bottoms out; then back off elastic stop nut 1/2 turn. Tighten brass barrel attaching nut securely. CAUTION Be sure to back off elastic stop nuts, which secure cable end guide and cable brass barrel, 1/2 turn after bottoming them out. End guide and brass barrel MUST pivot freely on studs for proper shift operation. IMPORTANT: If an extra long remote control shift cable is used, or if there are a large number of bends in remote control shift cable, and additional adjustment may be necessary. 8. Perform following check to determine if further shift adjustment is required. a. Out of water, engine stopped - check and adjustment: Move remote control shift handle into reverse position until throttle BEGINS to open. Turn propeller shaft clockwise. Clutch should engage and cause propeller to lock. If clutch does not engage, loosen adjustable stud, which anchors DRIVE UNIT shift cable to shift lever, and move stud to top of slot in shift lever. Shift remote control into full reverse and recheck shift cutout switch lever position. Lever must be in centered position. (switch roller in center of notch). Tighten adjustable anchor stud. -
I am hoping to add an auto pilot to my boat for next season. The boat is a 27' Sea Ray Amberjack with twin v-6's. Any recommendation for an auto pilot?
-
I will be running 3 riggers next year and possibly an auto pilot. Currently the boat has two cranking batteries. I think I need to upgrade the batteries for my needs. How many batteries are you using in your boat? How many riggers are you running?
-
How's it working Rich? Is it maintaining the saved way points?
-
Actually, you can see one of my boy's head at the stern of the boat. They both love the boat.

That is a friend of mines truck. When I got the deer, I had an expedition.
-
It's not my first deer with a bow. Its my first deer with my NEW bow. Here are a couple of bucks I shot on the same night with a bow, 15 minutes apart.
-
Great job on the weekend adventure. I love seeing young kids in the pictures with the deer. I see a future fisherman and hunter!
-
The house is sold, and the boat is pulled out now. I finally got to get out deer hunting last night for the first time this season . I was sitting at 5pm. I saw my first deer(buck) at 5:15pm. I was not ready when he came through. At 5:45pm, I saw my second deer(doe). About 6:30 pm, I saw 6 more deer(does and fawns). Around 6:45 this small 8 pt came in, and I took him. He only went about 40 yds after I shot him. This is the first deer I have shot with my new bow. I can not believe how smooth this bow shoots! Here is the 8 pt and myself.

River Fishing in Saugatuck
GLF replied to westrate's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Thanks Ron, for taking the time and posting a weekly report this summer. We look forward to them next year. -
Warning DO NOT leave helm unattended while performing idle speed adjustment. Boat MUST BE moving forward (not tied to the dock) when setting idle speed. Engine should idle at 650-700 RPM with boat in the water, drive unit in forward gear and engine at normal operating temperature. If idle speed is incorrect, proceed as follows: 1. Disconnect throttle cable from carburetor. Be careful not to lose spacer on anchor stud and spacer and bushing on throttle lever screw. 2. Start engine and place remote control lever(s) in forward gear, idle position. Adjust idle speed adjustment screw to obtain recommended RPM. Caution Throttle cable brass barrel MUST BE adjusted properly (in next step). Over-adjusting barrel in the other direction will exert excessive pressure on throttle lever, which could cause damage to carburetor linkages. 3. Stop engine. Readjust cable brass barrel (to compensate for throttle lever movement) and reinstall throttle cable. Be sure to tighten attaching nuts.

With stern drive unit installed and engine running, check to ensure that drive unit shifts properly, as explained following: 1. Shift into forward and reverse gear, making sure that clutch engages before engine begins to accelerate. 2. Accelerate engine while in forward and reverse gear to ensure that engine does not "kill". 3. Check that shift cutout switch roller is centered in notch of cutout lever with drive unit in forward and reverse gear. 4. If engine accelerates before clutch engages, if engine "kills" on acceleration, or if shift cutout switch roller is not centered (in forward or reverse gear), shift cable must be readjusted.

You left out one important detail. How big was "he"?
-
I spoke with a few trailer companies today. I got some prices and other information. What I found out....8'6" is the widest trailer they can make.
-
Is your trailer as wide as the boat, or did you have your trailer made 8'6"?
-
I take it, you have never been pulled over by the DOT?
-
That falls into the second vote. Brown its down, no button bucks/fawns. I edited the poll for the second vote. It now includes fawns.
-
It did not come with a trailer. I will be looking for a trailer in 2007. It has a 10' beam so I will need a wide load permit when I haul it.
-
Myself, I hunt deer mostly for meat. I have no issues with taking does. I usually take one or two of them per year. I still "hope" that the big boy walks by my stand(while I'm in it ), but I am more than happy with taking a doe.

I had to get one last trip in before I have the boat pulled on Monday. So...I gave my buddy Dv8oR a shout and drug him away from his chicken shed building project. Marine Forecast GALE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING Waves 5-8' building to 8-12' The weather was not in our favor, and we were not going to try it on the big lake. We went to the end of the piers, turned the boat around and set 6 lines in hopes of picking up a stray steelie, as we headed back up the channel. We did not pickup anything in the channel, so I told Dv8oR, I knew where we could pick up some pike. We headed over by the channel that heads to bear lake, turned North, and set 3 lines. It did not take long, less than 50 yds and we had a fish on. Turned out to be a 28" northern. This was the first fish in the new boat, and Dv8oR was kind enough to let me reel it in. Yaaaa, I know...it was not a salmon, but it still had the fishy smell After getting all of the baits buried in the weeds the second time, and the gale force winds, we decided to call it a day. The boat is being pulled Monday. Its going to be a long winter Is it spring yet?
