  1. Thanks minnow! I will give this a try!
  2. I know this a day early, but our troops in Iraq and other places in the world are up to 13 hours or more ahead of us. I spent 4 years in the USN and know what its like to be away from home on the holidays. A friend of mines daughter is in Iraq. I am on a high speed internet connection, so I am playing go between for them so they can share photo's. I have passed this web address on to her to share with the troops. I hope all of our troops and everyone else have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you for giving your time to make this a better world. Mike
  3. I am heading up to Muskegon Friday morning to work on the boat. The boat is in storage near the Fisherman's Landing. Is there any decent places to have breakfast near there?

    Newaygo buck

Thats a really nice Buck! Nice job!
  5. Thats probably velvet. What would your reaction be if you shot a buck, rolled it over to gut it, and discovered it was a doe?
  6. My wife and I picked up a wood stove to put in our basement. I hooked it all up and decided to try it out last night. I light a small fire to make sure everything would be OK. Well...smoke started coming out of the stove and filling the basement So, I opened a basement window to clear the smoke. After the smoke was cleared, I shut the basement window. Yep....smoke started coming out of the stove again. I opened the basement window again, and the smoke stopped coming out of the stove. I left the basement window slightly open last night so the fire could burn out in the stove without filling the house with smoke. Evidently our house is so air tight that we are getting a down draft from the pipe. This is probably why we get a little smoke in the house when we use the fire place. The fire place has a seperate fresh air vent. When we built the house, I put in for all the permits. I even got a permit for a fire place and a wood stove. There is a fresh air vent installed, but it goes directly into the cold air return on the furnace. I need to put another vent pipe(or what ever you call it), for make up air. What should I use for it? How big of a vent should I put in? Does it have to be a certain distance of the ground? Whats the code for it?
  7. Is that because your eye is swelled shut from being scoped?
  8. I usually here about a doe with antlers every year. I am waiting for the day, when I roll one over to gut it, and there not be any nuts.
  9. Ouch! You need to take care of that eye Rich! Nice job on the bucks!
  10. TRAVERSE CITY -- Responding to industry complaints, the government modified restrictions on shipments of some live Great Lakes fish aimed at preventing the spread of a deadly aquatic virus. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service this week revised an order it issued Oct. 24. The revision allows some fish to be taken across state lines with proper documentation, under conditions that vary depending on whether the fish are meant for slaughter, research or other uses. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061117/NEWS06/611170311/1008/NEWS
  11. A decision on allowing Waukesha County to access Lake Michigan water could be just weeks away. And that decision could significantly impact development patens throughout the region for the foreseeable future. But the special Legislative Council Committee on the Great Lakes Water Resource Compact this week deferred action on a proposal by Waukesha Water Utility General Manager Dan Duchniak that would have allowed the community to access the water that so far has been denied. It will likely consider the language at its Dec. 15 Madison meeting or final session set for January. http://onmilwaukee.com/politics/articles/wispol111706.html?10211
  12. Federal officials trying to halt a deadly fish virus in the Great Lakes ignored both a request by Ohio fisheries experts to deal with ballast water and criticism from the Great Lakes states over an emergency order that could put bait dealers and fish farmers out of business. The order to ban the interstate shipment of live fish from Great Lakes states is one that state officials don't want, no one can enforce, and if businesses comply, will force many to shut down. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/1163757145188080.xml&coll=2
  13. "We cannot accept that our state is laden with more toxic mercury pollution than nearly anywhere else in the nation and do nothing about it." Gov. Rendell Mercury from coal-fired power plants - currently responsible for the bulk of all mercury emitted in Pennsylvania - is expected to fall by 90 percent over the next nine years under a plan approved yesterday by a state regulatory board. The plan, vigorously debated for two years and heavily opposed by power plants and mining companies, trumps a weaker federal rule. Pennsylvania would join Illinois as the first major coal-producing states to move beyond the federal limits and make them tougher - if measures to do so in both states become final. http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/16032467.htm
  14. Jim Roland would love to say with certainty that fecal-laden muck washing up on Huron County beaches is linked to farm animals. But for the second time, he can't. Roland helped collect muck from near his home on Oak Beach in Hume Township in September, and tests were performed by microbiologist Joan Rose at Michigan State University. http://www.mlive.com/news/bctimes/index.ssf?/base/news-8/1163693826217150.xml&coll=4
  15. The U.S. Coast Guard's plan to conduct weapons training on the Great Lakes with lead bullets may violate an international agreement designed to reduce toxic chemicals in the lakes, according to the Canadian government. The government of Canada sent a letter to the Coast Guard this week expressing a number of concerns about a proposal to conduct live-fire weapons training at 34 sites on the Great Lakes, 14 of which are on Lake Michigan. http://www.mlive.com/search/index.ssf?/base/news-10/116369739649540.xml?muchronicle?NEM&coll=8

    Woo Hoo

A good friend of mine pointed this out. I took the bottom picture in the beginning of July. Do you think these two deer are the same deer, of do they just come from the same genetics?

I got this one behind the house tonight. He came trailing behind a doe with his nose to the ground.
  19. DETROIT -- Former Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler has died, three Detroit television stations are reporting. He was 77. Schembechler became ill and collapsed while taping a show at WXYZ in Southfield, the station said, and he was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. Schembechler also was hospitalized Oct. 20 after becoming ill at the same location. Police were sent to the station around 9:25 a.m. along with the city's fire department and escorted an ambulance to Providence Hospital, Southfield police spokesman John Harris said. Schembechler met with the media earlier this week to discuss Saturday's super-hyped game. During the news conference, the 77-year-old discussed the device that was implanted to regulate his heartbeat after he was hospitalized last month. He said the device covered about half his chest and that doctors still were adjusting it. Schembechler said he did not plan to attend the game in Columbus, Ohio, and that he doesn't attend road games anymore. Schembechler had a heart attack on the eve of his first Rose Bowl in 1970 and another one in 1987. He has had two quadruple heart bypass operations. The seven-time Big Ten coach of the year compiled a 194-48-5 record at Michigan from 1969-89. Schembechler's record in 26 years of coaching was 234-64-8.

    Opening Day

I sat till 11:00 am today. I saw 24 deer in the morning. Out of the 24 deer, only 5 of them were out of range. Only two of the 24 were bucks. Both of them were shooters, unfortunately, they were in the group of 5 that was to far away I am going back out this afternoon.
  23. Im ready. I have the day off work. I hope everyone gets a big one!
  24. I am not sure about the perch, but I know now is the time to catch a bunch of pike from Muskegon Lake.
  25. Nice Job Steve. My wife LOVES to eat them, but she does not want to take part in removing them.
