Thanks for the report, and Welcome to the site! We look foreward to seeing you around more. Mike -
I think I should have a lot more range than what I am getting. I will check this on mine.
-
I made all of my leaders 6' in length. In the major tournaments, Sliders or Add-A-Lines may not be longer than 6' in length.

I will not make it out on Friday. I will be leaving the dock at 5:30am on Saturday.
-
Good point Eric! Goes hand in hand with the decrease of the throttle when turning with the waves.

I am fishing again this weekend. Saturday I am taking friends of mine from work. I have Friday off, and may go out Friday also.

I have taken some new fisherman fishing this year. While I am setting the lines, someone has to drive the boat. Before I start setting lines, I set the speed at 2.7 on the gps. By the time I have my spread set, the boat is going below 1.5 on the gps. Everything I put down/out has an affect on the boat speed. When I finish setting the spread, I always have to bump up the speed. Watching the speed is second nature to me. The people I am taking fishing have never been trolling before. One thing I am not doing, and need to be explaining to these new boat drivers, is the importantance of watching the speed. Also.....I have found it's easier for them to steer off a compass heading or land mark, instead of following the map on the gps. When they try to steer off the gps, they have a tendenacy to do a circle with the boat. Any tricks of the trade I have missed?

I have heard that one before....but its not the one I was looking for.

Any electronic techs that know the saying for remembering the color codes? I learned it while in the service while going to my A-school in 1986. I still remember it today!

The batteries are sealed, and I do not see any signs of leakage. I purchased the boat last fall. They both were 1/2 full before I topped them off. I am still burning last years gas and stabelizer that I added. I have no idea how old the gas was, or if the previous owner had stabelizer in them. I want to run them almost empty before I fill them. It wont be long and it will be time to fill them I can see it now............Hey honey....I need to fill up the boat. This will be her reaction when she sees what it costs. Then I will need to hide.

With all of the different amounts of core that people have on their rods, how do you keep track of which rod has what on it? I put colored electrical tape just above the handle. The color of the tape tells me how much core is on the rod. This rod is a half core. I am missing a couple of colors of tape. Once I have all the colors, I will redo them as the color code for resistors. Black 0 Brown 1 Red 2 Orange 3 Yellow 4 Green 5 Blue 6 Violet 7 Gray 8 White 9

I have noticed a strong sulpher smell while trolling. Seems like it is more from the port engine and not the starboard. I have seperate gas tanks for each engine. I filled the boat last fall before storage and added stablizer. Does old gas give a sulpher smell?

I have not had a release on a dipsey yet this year either. How ever....I have only been pulling spinners and flies. I have heard radio traffic from other boats who are getting them on dipseys with spoons. Are you running them with spinners and flies or spoons?

My report is not as good as Nicks. We ended up 3 for 5. I shut down in 70FOW. I pointed the boat West and started setting lines at 6:15am. Our first fish came at 7:30am. It was a nice king on a Stinger Prototype. I blackend out the spoon to not reveal the color. At 8am we lost a REALLY nice steelhead that came on a Stinger Stingray Orange Killer on a 3 color core. The normal orange killer has a silver hammered finish. This one is gold hammered finish - GH205. This fish put on a good show and was dancing all across the water when it came unbuttoned. At 8:05 we hook into a smaller steelhead. This came on a Stinger Stingray Craig's x-mas on a two color core. After a bunch of dancing on the water, this one came unbuttoned also I spoke with Nick on the radio and he had a limit of kings already out deeper. I went out to 230FOW without a bump. I was running all Stinger Stingrays and Mags. I changed out the baits to Stinger Stinger's, and pointed the boat towards shore. I had one rigger near the bottom when we picked up this laker in 130FOW. It came on a Stinger Stingray Green Dolphin. We picked up a shaker on a full core with a Stinger NBK in 100FOW. After the shaker it was time to pull lines and hit the dock. A lot of boats were struggling to get fish after the sun was high, myself included. As you can see by my last photo, it was bright and sunny and not a ripple on the water. I should have down sized my baits long before I did. I will be out again this Saturday.

First cases of fish disease found in Lake Michigan

We all knew it was going to happen sooner or later. While I was cleaning fish last Saturday at Muskegon, another fisherman was there cleaning his fish. One of his fish had an extremely large lamprey looking mark on the under side behind the gills. Now that I think about it....There was a fish weighed in at the first West Michigan Fishing League event at Port Sheldon that had a similar large mark. -
I try to read every post....but this one slipped by me. Sorry to hear about your back Rich. Looks like you need to take it easy for a while. I hope your back gets better soon. Give me a shout if you need anything. Mike
