Nice catch Frank. One of these days.....I will make it over there for some walleye lessons.

WOW.....550FOW I have to run around 8 miles out of Muskegon to hit 200FOW. I think its near 12 miles at South Haven to hit 200FOW. Just curious....What is the average size(wieght) of the salmon you get on Lake Superior? Coho or kings???

Nice report Mark! Do you have any pictures you can post?
-
Thanks for the follow up. I am debating on fishing out front, or running up to Duck Lake. Do you have a speed and temp probe? If you do, at what foot is the temp break?

I am planning on fishing this weekend with my brother and his family. I would like to show them a good time on the water. How deep of water were you in? North/South????

Today was the day when everyone in the WMFL received their Custom Fishing Products flasher and Siggs Rigs fly. I personally had the chance to look at all of the flashers and flies. Nice flashers and flies! I will be adding more of these flashers and flies to my arsenal! We pulled our flasher and fly combo all day, and it payed off. We took a nice 13.8lb king on a wire dipsey on #2 with 260' on the counter. This fish came in 145FOW. I heard on the radio, that other fish were being caught on them.

Now why would a tournament fisherman hide information???? j/k :D -
Swim Noodle. Cut yourself a 1 foot length of swim noodle. Use half a tooth pick to hold your swivel on the noodle, then wrap your leader around, and put another 1/2 tooth pick on the other swivel. If you space them about 1" apart, you should be able to get 11 leaders on a 1 foot length. On my spoons, I use the smallest size swivel I can get away with. Some people use coast locks and other use Sampo's. I have some Sampo's, and some Berkley ball bearing swivels. I am using 30lb swivels, and I believe they are #3. I could be wrong on the size number.

We are having 3 photo contests. One for June, July and August. There is a post in the contests section, with the rules. This is a BEST Photo, not biggest fish contest! Put the Bechold away and order a Custom Fishing Products flasher and a Siggs Rigs fly. If you need help picking colors, just ask, and you will get lots of feed back.

Welcome to the site salmonquest! I am normally running between 2.7 and 3.0 on my gps for kings. Going with the current or against the current can have an affect on your speed also. This is where a speed and temp probe come in handy. Knowing the speed at the ball is more important than the speed over ground. Someone with a lot of expierence can tell how fast they are going by the bend in their diver rods. On my wire divers, I am running a snubber and a 6-8' leader to a spinner. I have flies tied to the spinners ranging from 18" - 24". Lead Core.....No boat should be without it! I run 3 lead core rods off each side of my boat. Some people will run at least 5 off each side. I have a mixed bag of lead core set ups. 2 colors, 3 colors, 5 colors, and full cores(10colors). I have all 4 sizes of dive bombs for achieving different depths with the set ups I have. The Dan Keating book Paulywood mentioned is a GREAT book! Mike

Thats good to hear Bill! Did you perform the checks on the old antenna after you redid the wiring?

I have two small boys, 2 and almost 6. I have the small vest style life jackets for them. They have the pool filled at the marina now. We took the boys there on Sunday to go swimming in the pool. I put the life jackets on the boys and was going to let them bob around in the water for a while. To my surprise....when I let go of the boys in the water, the first thing that would happen, is they would start falling over, face first in the water This put the fear of GOD in me. Here I was under the impression it would keep them afloat and they would be able to breath. Maybe I panicked, and their face would not have gone in the water. Before I take them back out on the boat, I WILL test this again. If it lets them go face first, I WILL replace the life jackets with another style. There is no way a 2 year old will be able to keep his face out of the water. Has anyone ever tested their kids life jackets to see if they keep their face out of the water? Is it just me???? What about your adult life jackets/vests? Will it keep your head out of the water if you get knocked unconscious for some reason and end up over the side?

I edited the trouble shooting post and added something. Your antenna should not be closer than 3' from the transmitter.
-
Umm.....Perhaps I should have stated it as commercial harvesting.
-
I have a question. Is it possible to harvest these fish and use them for fertilizer, cat food, or something else of the sort? With as many as there are in the rivers.....it could be highly profitable.

As a rule of thumb, you will get 4' to 5' of depth per color. This will also change based on what you have on for a bait, and what the boat speed is. If you have a spin doctor and fly combo on, you will not get the 5' per color. There is a guide book called the Precision Trollers Guide. It has all of the different depths that are achieved with lead core, divers, slide divers, etc, etc, etc......

Nice looking brown! I did not boat a brown this year -
How is your radio range? I am hoping its not the antenna. The fishing slush fund is tapped after filling the boat last week. I have Friday off, and may head up to the boat. I need to get my sons life jackets for this weekend, and maybe a couple of things for the tourney.

I just got out the phone with a technician from Shakespear, about my radio issues. The antenna should not be closer than 3' from the transmitter. The first thing I was told to check was to see if there was not any excess cable coiled up. There should only be an one extra foot of cable, and it should not be coiled up. The next thing he told me to do was to unscrew the antenna connector and plug only the center conductor into the radio. Change the radio to a weather channel. Once you have it on a weather channel. screw the connector on. If it gets worse, the problem is the connector, or the antenna. If it does not change, unsolder the center pin and stick it in the back of the radio. Have the radio tuned to a weather channel, and touch the shield to the outer ring of the radio. If it gets better, you have a bad connector. If the problem gets worse, its the antenna. VHF antennas are plug and play. You do not tune them. I will be checking things out the next time I get to my boat. I will report my findings. NOTE: Never transmit while the antenna is not hooked up.

WOW....I am jealous! All you need now is a garbage disposal for a grinder, and you are set up like the fish cleaning stations at some of the boat launches. I will put this on my list of things I have to have.

I have been fishing most of the baits HitMan listed. Craigs x-mas, Craigs x-mas reverse, and orange killer have been also been good for me. The orange killer I have been using has a gold hammered finish instead of the silver hammered finish. You can get it through Aurora Lites Tackle, or special order it through a dealer. I have also been using the new Nitro Series from Stinger. E.T., Area-51, Twister, and Wonderbread have been working for me in low light and after dark.

I use snubbers on my wire divers. Wire has zero stretch, so its nice to have something to take the shock out of it when the dipsey releases.
