  1. I have a big scratch on my slasher now. Now that you mention the fish hitting the slasher, I am thinking that may be how my scratch got on it.
  2. One way to accelerate your learning curve is to hop on board with someone else. Everyone has something that you can learn from. One person may do things one way, and another may do it a different way. In the end you will become a more versatile fisherman, with an arsenal of weapons. Dont be afraid to ask questions here!
  3. Congrats Clyde! There was eleven us out Saturday morning fishing the Stinger Challenge. I caught the majority of our fish in the 50-60' range. We were on channel 72. Normally, I monitor 68 while I am out. Word of caution. Watch out when running lead core in close proximity with other boats.
  4. I am using Dive Bombs. I will add these to my lead cores for extra depth.
  5. Safety is the #1 concern on the big lake. You made the right call! I was up this morning and watched the storm come in. There was even 1/2" sized hail, to go along with the terrential down pour. I listened to the radio this morning and finally heard a wave report around 6:15, 2-4'ers. I hope to be able to make it to the next one in two weeks.
  6. Here is the biggest one of the day that we caught.
  7. Here is one with spots. Here is one with the center spots missing. Both of these fish were the same size. The one with no spots in the center had noticably smaller eggs.
  8. Has anyone else noticed that some chinook have spots all over the tail, and others only have spots on the top side and bottom side of their tail? I cleaned some chinook on Thursday. Two of the fish were identical in size, around 12lbs each. One of the fish had spots all over the tail, and the other one only had spots on the top side and bottom side. The one that had spots all over the tail had bigger eggs in it then the other one. Notice the big one in this picture does not have spots in the center of its tail. This was bigger than the other two and had smaller eggs than the smaller fish with spots all over the tail. I have noticed the smaller eggs before, but was thinking it was an immature fish. But.....now that I think back, these fish were the same way with the spots/no spots on their tails. These are Lake Michigan fish. I am not sure if Kings have tails with spots/no spots in the other Great Lakes. Whats up with the spots on the tails and the different size eggs? Different strains of chinooks? Has anyone else noticed the missing spots in the center parts of the tail and smaller egg sizes????? Maybe I was in the sun and heat to much this weekend.

  11. Stinger Challenge Lures We ended up 8 for 16...... We shut down in 50FOW right in front of the piers on a South troll, and started setting lines. It was not long after I had everything set when a 6 color core with the Killer Tangerine went. After peeling off 75 yards of line, it came unbottoned. I reset this one and a rigger set at 28' with the Nitro Green Fireball went. We boxed this fish and I reset the rigger. The Killer Tangerine on the 6 color went again next. This was another nice king. From about here on, everything was a blurrrrr..... Killer Tangerine went around 5 times Nitro Green Fireball went 2 or 3 times FN Wiggle went 2 times Mary Poppins went 1 time Metallic Green Glow Slasher with NBK fly went 4 times Glow Puke went 1 or 2 times Most of our fish came between 50-60FOW. At 8am, we pulled lines and ran out to 150FOW to fish where I caught fish on Thursday. We caught 2 lake trout, 1 coho, and lost another. All of these hits came on the Metallic Green Slasher with a NBK fly. This on a wire diver set on #3 with 300' of line out. On the weigh in to weigh in, we caught the biggest thing of the tourney!

  13. You could have weighed in 2 more kings. You were allowed to weigh in 5 fish, not a one person limit.
  14. Here are the results for the Stinger Challenge. Eleven teams fished in the challenge. 47 fish were weighed in by 11 teams for a total weight of 411.2lbs! There was a tie for big fish and the big fish pot was split. 15. Nice job Tim! ummmmm....You could have continued fishing and caught 3 more kings. The limit is 5 fish per person, only which 3 may be of the same species, and only 2 may be lake trout. Maybe you would have won
  16. Sounds like a good name to me also!
  17. Here is another thread about leadcore.
  18. By "closed", he means they are not taking any more teams. The Sunday tourney is a "GO" last I heard.
  19. I hit my Nitro's with a 1 million candle power spot light on the water before I send them down. I spent the night on the boat Wednesday night. I hit the Nitro's for about 20 seconds with the spot light before I went to bed. They were still glowing at 4am. With any glow bait, the super glow only last a short time. The super glow will fade to a duller glow. The duller glow, that last a long time.
  20. One of the teams that was fishing the Stinger Challenge, had to go to Oregon for work, and will not be back in time to fish the challenge. If you would like to purchase his lure package($36) and fish the Stinger Challenge($15 entry fee) on 11 August, call me on my cell phone. I will be leaving here shortly to do some running around, before I head to Muskegon. I do not think I will be back online today. Make sure you read all of the rules of the event. Mike
  21. I thought I might have heard it once while I was resetting lines.....but was not sure who it was, or if was me they were calling for sure.
  22. Nice job Phil! I forgot you were going to be up there. Did you try and call me on the radio?
  23. I went fishing out of Muskegon today with Rudy, Ken, Steve, and Mike. I wanted to get some early morning prefishing in, so we left the dock around 4:30 am. We ended up 16 for 19 and had two other knock offs. 4 Steelhead, 6 coho, and 6 kings! Hmmmmm....I am fishing two tourneys this weekend, so I am giving the short report. We fished 50FOW - 165FOW. We caught fish from 2 colors of core, to 140' down on a rigger, and also on wire divers. Our hot wire diver was a Custom Fishing Products 11" Hotchip, white blank/double pearl fishscale, with a Siggs Rigs Blue Mist Trophy fly. . This went 3 times for us today. We took the majority of our fish on Michigan Stinger spoons. NBK, Blue Dolphin, Orange Killer, Craigs x-mas, Green Dolphin, Nitro Twister(went 3 times), and Nitro Area 51. We also took 3 fish on a ......You guessed it! The Monkeypuke colored J-Plug I was looking for the other day! Steve and Rudy Ken, Steve, Mike, and Rudy Our catch
  24. I probably will not be able to play. I have to run to Holland and back Saturday around 7pm.
