Why do they have there regatta or whatever you call it right in front of the piers? Why not move it a 1/2 mile or a mile North or South of the pier heads? Nahhh....its better to have it in front of the piers and bottle everything up!

There are still a lot of people in the area without power.

I kept a close eye on my lead core rods today. The rod tips do not point directly at the boards. My rigger rods are the ones that were pointed straight. I see how this could create a week spot.

We had quite the storm blow threw on Thursday afternoon/evening. There were lots of trees down, in the roads. We(wife, 2 boys, and myself) went by a Michigan State policeman who had pulled a chain saw from his trunk and was cutting up trees that were lying in the road, in the rain. Thanks for making our roads safe again.

I had promised to take a coworkers son fishing for the last couple of weeks. Today I finally had the chance to take him out. I told him the forecast, 3-5'ers and he still wanted to go. Seeings how I did not have any power at the house, I was game for fishing also. I picked him up at 4:15am, and we were off to Muskegon. I gave him some Dramamine, which he took when we were pulling out of his drive way. He did not wash it down with anything. We stopped at the Shell station in Grand Haven on got Ice, donuts, coffee, and he got a capachino. We untied from the dock at 6:05am and headed for the lake. We got to the channel going out and you could feel the waves already. We cleared the inner pier and we motored out, and started setting lines. I only set 6 lines till it got a little lighter. It was not long after I got the 6th line set when my Brian started too look a little green. He asked me where he could throw up. The center rigger released.....and there was nobody home. While DIRTY DOG was resetting it, Brian commenced to autographing the side of my boat. Its never fun seeing anyone sick on the lake, so I decided to turn the boat around and we would troll back in and troll the channel. A wire diver with an 11" Protroll and a Siggs Rigs Green Hypnotist set on #3 with 75' of wire out fired. Brian reeled this fish in while sitting in the back seat. This ended up being a small king around 6-8lbs. I asked Brian what he wanted to do, and he said he wanted to stay out. While DIRTY DOG was resetting the wire diver, Brian autographed the other side of the boat. I did not have my bags in the boat and it was hard to control the boat speed. I swung the boat to the South so we could control the speed a little better. After seeing Brian do a couple of more autographs, I had seen enough. I spun the boat back around and headed for the channel. Right before we got to the pier heads, and rigger fired. By this time, Brian did not want anything to do with a rod, and DIRTY DOG reeled in a nice sheephead. We made a passes and a half up and down the channel, and I had already cleaned the weeds off several lines, several times, and I decided to call it a day. As I was pulling lines, I noticed I had a gobie on the end of the line. Final tally....1 king, 1 sheephead, 1 gobie, and my boat has officially been autographed. I think we were back at the dock by 8am. Brain apologized for ruining the day and asked when we can go again. I told him no need to apologize, and we would have to watch the weather for a calm day.

We finally got our power back on after 29 hours without. The storm that came through on Thursday took out a lot of power in the area. I am glad to be back online!

Is anyone from the site going to be fishing Muskegon on Friday? The marine forecast does not look very good. I will know later on tonight if I am going for sure. FRIDAY SOUTHWEST WINDS 10 TO 20 KNOTS VEERING NORTHWEST LATE IN THE DAY. MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. WAVES 2 TO 4 FEET.

I guess I need to clarify slightly. What I am talking about is using a full core as a 2 color or 5 color, etc, etc, etc..... You still have some lead at the end of your rod. Everyone always says it creates wear at the rod tip on the lead core.
-
How many of you use a full core for something besides a full core? ie......2 color, 5 color, 7 color, etc, etc, etc..... The one thing that always comes up when people talk about this, is that the rod tip wears on the lead core if you have less than a full core out. I use medium and medium light action rods. Every time I check, all of my rod tips are pointing directly at the boards when I am running core, or even flat lines with boards. If it is pointing directly at the board, how is this wearing on the core?

I always grill them(salmon and steelhead). I put some aluminum foil on the grill. Put some olive oil on the foil. I put the fillets on, and sprinkle lowry salt, garlic salt, and lemon pepper. I close the lid and let them cook for around 5 minutes. I then flip them over and put more Lowry salt, garlic salt, lemon pepper, and add parmesian cheese. I put the cover back down and let this cook for another 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, I open it back up, flip them over, and sprinkle parmesian cheese on this side. Close the lid and let cook for a few more minutes. Salmon and steelhead are both good. I have noticed two different colors of steelhead meat, pink and white. The pink meat steelhead has the best flavor. The white steelhead meat appears to be a little firmer. I worked up an appetite typing that up. Looks like I need to pull a bag of fillets out of the freezer for dinner tomorrow.

I swear you have the worst luck Frank. Maybe you should play the mega millions tomorrow and all of your luck will turn around. Good luck in Manistee.

Outstanding! Way to stick em.

Welcome aboard Jimmy! Did you get a chance to make it out fishing this weekend?

Anyone seeing any bucks without velvet? I saw a small buck on the way to work the other day that looked like it had rubbed the velvet off. By the time I got close enough to be 100% sure, it ran off.

Nice job Brek! Looks like a zoo out there. -
Thanks Leroy! This is very usefull information. About the rpm slippage.....I want to say Dirty Dog, said the boat did this the week prior to loosing drive. I will have to speak with him to confirm.
-
I am sure they were both kings. What I am not sure about is why the eggs between the two fish were different size. The next time someone is cleaning fish, please pay attention to this and see if you come up with the same results in egg sizes.

There are no solenoids in the transom. There are two wires that run through the transom, and outdrive to two coils in the lower unit. There is a spring on each coil. These coils are on the front and back side of the drive shaft for the prop.
-
Can you hear the coils when they energize? A replacement springs if over $400

I am helping Dirty Dog with his boat. I am looking for an online OMC manual that shows and tells the proper way to take apart a 1977 OMC Stringer Electric Shift outdrive. This is for a 140hp. We have checked the voltage on the wires that go to the outdrive on Dirty Dog's boat. There is voltage there which means it is not the switch. We need a manual that shows the break down and tells how to disassembly the lower unit. We are hoping it is a broken wire in the outdrive, but have been told this is unlikely. Replacement parts are obsolete.

Welcome aboard Hi-tech! I fish out of Muskegon. I will be out back out until the 26th and possibly the 25th.
