I did not think of the leverage as pulling a hook out. I would think that would bury the hook deeper unless it was in the opposite jaw of the pulling force. What I was thinking, was the increased pressure from the leverage, opening up the hook opening. After a few more head shakes or what ever, there gets to be some slack in the line, and the hook drops out of the enlarged hole.

Does the motor start again if you pump the ball? Maybe the fuel pump is bad. Yes.....2 strokes have a fuel pump.....but I may be calling it the wrong thing. My brother had a bass boat with a 150hp Evenrude. The boat would start and run like a raped ape for a short time, then it would crap out. If I squezzed the fuel ball, I could keep it running. Not sure if thats your problem or not.......

We are over looking one aspect. Leverage....When the fish spins, twists, rolls, wraps up in the line, or what ever, its possible the spoon will also act as a lever. Even though your drag is loose, the pressure at the hook caused by the leverage may open the hole. That being said.....A single hook, which has a longer shank then a treble may have less leverage than a treble hook, and resulting in less lost fish. Picture this....you have a nice fish hooked in the corner of its mouth. The line is pulling on one side of the fish. The fish changes directions, or rolls, and the spoon goes across its head. Here is where leverage comes into play. With a treble hook, the end of the spoon is next to the body. With a single hook, the end of the spoon will be further away, resulting in less leverage. I may have just talked myself into switching to single hooks.

What I have found is that the hole in the fishes mouth from the hook gets enlarged with a tight drag. A sharp hook should work its way in no matter how tight the drag is.

I am planning on fishing Muskegon Saturday morning. Sunday my family and I are heading up to Grayling to spend the night. Monday we are going to walk the Mackinac Bridge. Do you think they would say something if I brought a fishing rod with a 2lb ball of lead and spoon, and trolled along as I walked? Anyone else ever walk the Bridge?

I had a day this year where I was 15 for 30. Since that day, I sharpened my hooks, and GREATLY improved my hook to landing ratio. However, I still loose some fish. The biggest fish I have put in my boat so far this year was 14.4lbs. I have lost several fish that were absolute screamers! My hooks are so sharp now, all I have to do is think about hooking something, and its stuck. I run my drags more on the loose side. Dv8oR will vouch for that. I have hooks that sometimes fall out of the fishes mouths when I net them. I had 3 of them fall out in the net this past Sunday. I also notice holes in the fishes mouth where the hook has torn the whole larger. I think this is caused by my drag being to tight, or the spoon acting as a lever across the fishes body, when the fight is on. I am running 20lb test mono. I am thinking I need to lighten my drag up even further. The more I think about this, the more I realize that most of the screamers I lost are on lead core. I am not sure how much if any lead core stretches. I am not ready to switch to single point hooks. How tight does everyone run their drags? Whats the key to getting the big ones in the boat?

I have 12 new Stinger spoons. Here is the way it works. I will give a spoon to the first 12 teams that finish higher than me at the last WMFL event on 9 September. If I finish in last place, teams that finish 1-12 will get a spoon. If I finish in 6th place, teams that finish 1-5 will get a spoon. IF I win, no one gets a spoon. Good luck to all! I will be fishing the tournament on 9 September, and the blow date on 16 September incase we get blowed out on the 9th. I am not sure what Rich has planned if both of those dates get blown out. I will not be able to make it if it gets moved back any further than those two dates. Nothing like putting a bullseye on your back! What was that song by Vanilla Ice? Under Pressure......

Yes you got a beautiful 20lb fish in the Dreamweaver Challenge. Unfortunately, it was not a league event. So...I believe Mark's fish still stands as the big fish. Rich will need to clarify.

What did the big one weigh?

*GLF remembers a post where GLF misidentified some fish. :D What makes it really hard to identify is when you have kings that have partial spots on the tails, or a coho that has a couple of spots on the tail. :confused: I never have a problem identifying largemouth and smallmouth bass!

I got a couple of pictures of Phil today. I slowed down so Phil could catch up and I could take this picture.

We ended up 7 for 12-14(I lost count). This does not include knock offs. BOY WAS IT FOGGY THIS MORNING!!!!!!! We were a little late getting out this morning. We started setting lines at 5:15am this morning in 50FOW. We marked a lot of fish in this area, but no takers. I think the water was too warm. After a couple of passes in this area with no bumps, we worked out to deeper water. Once we hit 125, we had our first release. This was on a rigger with a Stinger Stingray Nitro Twister. There was nobody home when we got to the rod. Our next release was on another rigger with a Stinger Stingray Nitro Fireball We boxed this fish. From there.....I am a little hazy. Most of our fish came from 135-150FOW. Most of our fish came from 80-125' down. We took two fish on a Monkey Puke J-Plug. Our wire divers took fish on a #3 setting, with 210', and 240' on the counters. These divers took 3 fish on 11" Protroll flashers with Siggs Rigs flies, Blue Mist, and Powder Hypnotist. We also took a fish on a full core with a 4oz Dive Bomb with a Stinger Magnum NBK. We took a fish on a Stinger Magnum Glow Dolphin.

Dv8oR/GLF caught this one today in the 4th WMFL tourney. It weighed 14.4lbs.
