  3. I tried to get to the draft today, and I could not get there
  4. My boat has twin v-6's. Each engine has a mando 55amp altenator. I would like to upgrade the altenators to 100amps plus. The Mercury part #12449. What is unique about the mando altenator? What would I have to do to convert to 100amp altenators?
  5. How does that work with police reports for all of those vehicles in the pile up? How long does it take the police to get everyones information? I bet the officer got writers cramp.

  10. Who will win the Daytona 500? It was 10 years ago when Dale Earnhardt won it. My bet is on Little E to win the 500. Junebug will drive his heart out on Sunday!
  11. Dont forget an air horn/whistle. I picked up an air horn at Walmart in the party section last year. It was half the price of the air horn in the marine section.
  12. Any NASCAR fans? I have created a fantasy racing league. This is limited to 8 people. If you would like to join the league, please do so ASAP. The drafting will be Wednesday 13 Feb at 7pm EST. You can set it up for autodraft if you can not make it. Go to nascar.com and get registered. The name of the league is Great Lakes Fisherman. The password is: bigfish I am still trying to figure everything out there. Sign up if you want to get whipped by my team, GLF Racing I signed up for the free league.
  13. I always run red dipsey's on the port and green on the starboard. This way they never get mixed up and end up tangled behind the boat. Matches the navigation lights
  14. This is a walleye tourney. The rules have been changed to reflect it. Everyone needs to read the bold print in rule 12.
  15. Everyone is watching Lake Michigan for the next few years to see what will happen. Lots of speculation as to what might happen, but time will tell. I am very interested in the size of the catch this year. Most of the fish I caught last year were in the 12-14lb range. I only caught one fish over 18lbs last year, and that was in May. A couple of years ago, they reduced the number of fish they were stocking. Did they cut back enough? The next few years will tell the story....
  16. Stinger Challenge 14 June 2008 Blow date - 15 June 2008 Au Gres City Park, Augres, MI What is the Stinger Challenge? The Stinger Challenge is a fishing event with everyone on the same playing field. Everyone receives the EXACT SAME lure package at a discounted price! Everyone is limited to having no more than 6 lines in the water at one time. This gives the person with 3 people in the boat the same chance as someone with 4 people in the boat. The lures in your lure package are the only lures you are allowed to use. If you loose one or all of your baits, you are not allowed to replace it/them with another lure from your box. What does is cost to fish in the event? There are two costs associated with this event. One is the entry fee for the event($30.00($5.00 go's toward big fish pot)), and the other is the cost of your lure package($30.00). The total cost is $60.00 What does the lure package consist of. The lure package will consist of: 8 Scorpion Spoons 2 Stinger Spoons(standard size) 2 Dive Bombs 1oz size 2 Dive Bombs 2oz size 1 Hat The cost of the lure package is $30.00. This lure package and hat would normally cost over $60. Lure packages must be paid for by 30 May. Additional Stinger hats and T-shirts will be available to purchase at a discounted price at the weigh in. If you are planning on ordering extra hats, or T-shirts, I need to know shirt size(s) and color in advance. What color are the baits in the lure package? You will not know the colors of your lures until the morning of the event. This is another element of the challenge. No one knows what colors they are getting. Can I just pay for the discounted lure package and not fish in the event? Absolutely not! If you do not show up for the event, your lure package will be DONATED as a prize at the event, and your money WILL NOT be refunded. In the event you sign up for the challenge and can not make it, you may try to find someone to fish in your place. When will I get my lure package? I will have everyones lure package in a bag at the Au Gres City Park, the morning of the event. When the entry fee for the event is paid, you will get your lure package. Fishing Event Rules: 1 - Entry fee($30.00($5.00 for big fish)) is to be paid by 5:30am. 2 - You are not allowed to alter the appearance of a spoon in your lure package. ie...no adding/removing tape, or adding paint. You may change hooks, add a crawler or live bait harness. Yes, you can use live bait! 3 - You are only allowed to fish the lures that are in your lure package. If you are caught fishing with a lure that is not in your package, you will be disqualified. 4 - If you loose one or all of your baits, you are not allowed to replace it/them with another lure(s) from your box. 5 - You may not set a line before 6am 6 - You may not have more than 6 lines in the water at a time. If you are caught with more than 6 lines in the water, you will be disqualified. 7 - You must be checked in at Au Gres City Park by 1pm. If you are not checked in by 1pm, you will be disqualified. Make sure you have enough time for possible congestion at the boat ramp. 8 - Weigh-in will start at 1:30pm. 9 - There is no limit to the amount of people in your boat. 10 - You may not have in your possession more than a 3 person limit. 11 - You may only weigh in 5 walleye. 12 - All fish weighed in must be legal length. All fish will be measured at weigh in. If you weigh a fish that is not legal length, it will not be counted, and your biggest fish will be pulled from your box also. 13 - Make sure you know which fish is your big fish before you come to the scales. NO CHECKING AT THE SCALES! 14 - If your boat breaks and you can not make it in by check in time, you may bring your cooler in another boat to weigh-in. Someone from your crew needs to accompany it. 15 - All boats/coolers will be checked at the Au Gres City Park before the tournament begins. 16 - Everyone must sign a release waiver.
  17. Unfortunatly, the camera image updated, and I do not see a guy.
  18. Hmmm....Been there....done that! Great post by the way! I was a tournament bass fisherman for 12 years. In those 12 years, I learned a lot about paying attention and repeatability. Every time I caught a bass, I tried to dissect how/why I caught that fish, and how to repeat it. Anyone can catch a bass. Its the ones who can repeat the pattern(s) and bring in the biggest sacks of fish, who win. When I am salmon fishing, I am very focused on details. I watch the fish finder like a hawk. Last season, I found several holes, and a nice trough. When the fish were in shallower, these areas consistantly produced! One particular hole, I made 3 passes over, and had 2 doubles and a single. These were all 12-14lb fish. Who says salmon do not relate to structure? This hole is in 50FOW and most of these fish were caught on full cores. Do salmon relate to bottom? If you say "no", answer this. How does a sea lamprey catch up to a salmon and attach itself to it, in open water? Is the salmon just hovering 80' down in 120FOW? Lets not take away from the sea lamprey. At the end of its life cycle, it does find its way up river to spawning grounds and spawns, so it must be a decent swimmer. Do all salmon relate to bottom? I am not sure...... Did you catch a fish on a turn? If you did, this should turn on a light bulb. Was it an inside or outside rod that took the fish? If it was on an inside rod, you may want to slow your troll down when going straight. If it was an outside rod that went, you may want to speed up. I am glad everyone heads the opposite direction when they see nets. I can not imagine trying to fish around the nets with 30 other boats. Learn how the nets are layed, and you can affectively fish around them, without getting caught in them. Attention to detail will result to more fish in your box. OK....I am all worked up now. Lets go catch some fish!
  19. I have more to do than what is on the list
  20. The weather has not been working with me the last couple of weeks. I have planned to go up to the boat 4 times, and we got a bunch of snow each time. Things to do: Repair/replace bad alternator Repair/replace I/O's trim motors(both) Put name on back of boat Fix steering issue with second I/O Install radar arch and permantly mount lights(fore and aft) Add speed/temp unit Reseal bow railing. Change Engine oil(both engines) Change oil in outdrives(both I/O's) There is probably more......
  21. SHRINKING SALMON: Lack of prey contributing to decline February 7, 2008 BY ERIC SHARP FREE PRESS OUTDOORS WRITER Lake Michigan anglers can expect to catch fewer chinook salmon this summer, and those that are caught likely will be smaller. Prey fish numbers have decreased for the third year in a row to about one-third of 2005 levels (and only 8% of the peak in 1989), and salmon will find it tougher to locate the alewives that are their primary food source. What researchers don't agree on is whether Lake Michigan's chinook can hang on at present levels or if the new data presage an imminent collapse of the salmon fishery like the one that occurred in Lake Huron three years ago. The key to the lake's future is held by a nickel-sized mollusk called a quagga mussel, another invader from Europe that has nearly eliminated earlier-invading zebra mussels in both Lakes Michigan and Huron. Quaggas can colonize sand and mud bottoms (zebra mussels need rock or other substrate) and live much deeper than zebra mussels (now past 300 feet and still going down). They're bigger and more efficient filter feeders than zebras, removing more nutrients from the water, and in Lake Michigan their numbers are an astonishing seven to eight times greater than they were in Lake Huron when the salmon fishery collapsed there. Quagga break the food chain by eliminating tiny creatures that provide food for huge numbers of small crustaceans and fish from many species, including the alewives that are the chinooks' nearly exclusive prey base. Energy that once moved up the links of the food chain through invertebrates to baitfish to salmon is now locked up on the lake bottom in mussel shells, which are eaten in small numbers by only a few fish. Charles Madenjian, a biologist who surveys prey fish populations for the U.S. Geological Survey's Great Lakes Research Laboratory, thinks predictions of a Lake Huron future for Lake Michigan aren't supported by the available data, at least not yet. "I don't agree that it's necessarily a gloom-and-doom situation," Madenjian said. "I know some people are convinced that we can blame everything on the mussels and that it's just a question of time, but I think it's a lot more complex than that. Lake Huron is very different from Lake Michigan, and I think the basic problem in Lake Huron was too many salmon munching up too many alewives." "We could see a similar (salmon collapse) in Lake Michigan, but I don't think we have the information we need to say it's going to happen," he said, adding that Lake Michigan's baitfish population could stabilize or even grow slightly -- and the salmon population follow suit -- with another good alewife hatch. Madenjian's estimate of Lake Michigan's prey base -- alewives, bloater chubs and other baitfish eaten by predators like walleyes, steelhead, lake trout, salmon and whitefish -- dropped from 61 kilotons in 2006 to 30 kilotons in 2007. The prey base was more than 80 kilotons in 2005 and a record 400 kilotons in 1989, the year the first quagga mussel was seen in the Great Lakes. But trawling data from the USGS research ships in 2007 estimated that the mass of mussels (98% quaggas) in Lake Michigan alone was a staggering 245 kilotons -- a half-billion pounds. That's eight times the mass of the available prey fish there. Thomas Nalepa, a researcher at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory and sometimes Madenjian's collaborator, is more pessimistic. "Logically, I ask myself where is all the energy to support all that mass (of mussels) coming from? It has to come at some cost, and logically, it's from the fish. We're trading fish biomass for mussel biomass," Nalepa said. "I can see Chuck's point that we may be looking at a blip in Lake Michigan, but I also know that it's following the same trend we saw in Lake Huron. Overall, Lake Michigan has a slightly higher biomass of quaggas than Lake Erie. That's pretty mind-boggling. We see them going very deep in (Huron and Michigan), and that means they seem to be able to do very well at low-food concentrations." The future of Lake Michigan's salmon is important for several reasons, not the least being estimates that the lake accounts for about $1 billion of the $4 billion Great Lakes sportfishing expenditures. Randy Claramunt, a Michigan Department of Natural Resources fisheries research biologist, appeared optimistic. "Lake Michigan is very different from Huron," he said. "I think that it is a lot richer (biologically), and the southern basin may be productive enough to sustain the fishery. But I agree that we'll probably see a decrease in the number of fish caught, although that's still enough for a great fishery. Even with the numbers down, Lake Michigan is still producing a lot of salmon."
  22. It starts Feb 29. If you look at the bottom of the forums, where it shows "Up coming events for the next 30 days", it is in the list. If you click on the link, it will take you to the event in the calendar, and you can click on a link to the site.
  23. The orignal post is over a year old. I ran this unit all last season, and suspect I will be running it for many more. Something about saving $1,000.....That would almost pay for my slip for the season
  24. We have a how-to tutorial in this post on how to upload and post pictures.
  25. If you are fishing in the Stinger Challenge and would like to order extra hats or t-shirts, please let me know how many of each you would like.
