  1. This is my 4,000 post so I thought I should make it a good one. Actually, I have way over 5,500 posts! I am also the username Fishing Report. I use to post a weekly fishing report(DNR's report) from various ports until the site got enough reports being posted by members. How/Why did I start this site? I had a few vbulletin forum websites before I started this one. One day in December of 2005, I was checking domain names for a new site. Out of the blue, I typed in greatlakesfisherman.com. It popped up as being available. Knowing that a good domain name is a key for getting a site off the ground and having a successful site, I quickly registered the domain name. If you build it, they will come.... So now I had the domain name greatlakesfisherman.com. Now what do I do with it? Do I make it a bass fishing site, or a salmon fishing site? I grew up in the 70's and 80's fishing for salmon on Lake Michigan. I got hooked on bass fishing in 1993 and chased them until 2005. My boys were very young when I registered the domain name. At the time, they were 4 and 1. I figured I would get to spend a lot more quality time with my sons as a family on the big lakes instead of on a bass boat. So, I made the decision to make it a salmon site. After a few weeks of laying it out and working with the looks, I opened the website in January of 2006. Why visit a site if there is nothing new? Would you continue to visit a site if there is nothing new? It takes a lot of time and effort to get a site off the ground. This is why there was so many posts from me in the beginning. This site has really grown and we have a lot of "quality" active members. With everyone posting reports and other information, I am not posting near as much. I still read 99.5% of the posts that are made. There has always been, and will always be a zero tolerance for flaming. I try to welcome every new member that posts a welcome thread in the welcome area. I also believe anyone who posts a fishing report should at least get a "good job" reply. It may not be much, but a little bit goes a long ways. Things have been very hectic for me the last couple of weeks. The video website has taken a lot of my time. Both of the Stinger Challenges have been fished, and I got most of my work done on GLF. I put GLF back in the water today. I will finish the work this Saturday. Check out my new decal! Now its time to start slamin salmon. Look for a fishing report from me this coming weekend!
  2. What a beautiful day on Saginaw Bay. It was a little bumpy in the A.M., but for the most part....it was a GREAT day to be on the water. I waited at the Au Gres City Park until 5:40 waiting for the last 2 teams to show up. They never showed, so there was only 7 teams that fished. Anglers were all given the exact same lure package when they checked in, in the morning. They were allowed to change hooks and install live bait rigs. Teams were allowed to weigh in 5 fish, and were given 10 bonus points for each fish. The big fish on the event was caught by team chuck. It tipped the scales at 6.60lbs. This beat the second biggest fish by .05lbs. Priority1 finished 1st with 66pts. Toolman finished 2nd with 60.45pts. JWheeler finished 3rd with 60.15pts Tripanic finished 4th with 58.85pts. Chuck finished 5th with 38.95pts. Tltorrice finished 6th with 23.2pts. Walleyealx was late checking in and not allowed to weigh in. A BIG thanks goes out to Michigan Stinger for providing a Great lure package at a Great price! I also need to thank Priority1, his wife Jeneice, BigJack, and Jason Wheeler for bringing food and drinks to the event for everyone. I have the original photos, if anyone needs them.

  5. Save some of them for Saturday Frank!
  6. Looks like they are planning for the future when they run out of oil.
  7. All you need to catch fish are Stinger spooons.
  8. Bill hit the nail on the head. I pulled the boat on Monday, and brought it home to do some work. I am adding a Fish Hawk and have to install a new transducer, and move the one for my fish finder. I am also going to add a couple of new "Great Lakes Fisherman" decals to the sides, and reseal the hatchs, and deck rails. Hopefully I will have it back in the water on Thursday.
  9. Sounds like you have them all figured out for this Saturday's, Lake Huron Stinger Challenge! Save some for Saturday!
  10. Has anyone ever thought of it like this? Why not use up the other resources before we tap into ours? When theirs is gone, we will still have ours.
  11. Who can tell me whats wrong with this picture? Its pretty obvious!
  12. Nice job Jon! I need to get out fishing
  13. I will be upgrading the forum software on Sunday. This is the day after the host is suppose to swap servers. The site will be down for approximately a hour for the software upgrade. Hopefully there will not be any issues with this upgrade.
  14. The host will be swapping out servers this weekend(Friday or Saturday night). There will be approximately 1-2 hours of down time when they do the swap. They have already copied all of the data bases, from this server to the new server. Periodically during the week this week, they will be syncing the new server with the old server. This will update all of the data bases on the new server. When they sync the servers, it puts a load on the server and may cause the site to be slow, or cause pages not to load. When they make the swap, they will sync the server one last time and make the switch. Hopefully all goes well!
  15. Seeing walleye and perch, and hearing this talk about taste.....Im HUNGRY! Maybe I better get some breakfast! Nice catch!
  16. It does not matter where boats launch from. The whats important is that everyone is back on time.
  17. That was probably caused by static electricity in the air. Fishing rods are graphite lighting rods. I was in a bass tournament when a storm was coming in and very close. I cast my bait out and the bait dropped in the water. The line floated about 4' in the air between the bait in the water and my rod. My partner and I reeled our lines in as fast as we could and ran to shore to wait out the storm.
  18. Nice job Terry! I wish I was fishing this weekend instead of working.
  19. I just spoke with silverone on the phone. He did really well, and will try to get a report posted later today.
  20. This site got a software upgrade and face lift. Check out all of the new videos.
