Nice job Nick. Hopefully the pictures you took turn out bigger than the one you sent me on my phone. It made you and the fish look tiny. -
Three over our limit today.

I need to get one of these for my boat. -
Nice job Jim. I had an opportunity to get out last night and could not muster up a crew. It was spur of the moment thing.

Good point! I think my 5 gallon can holds more than 5 gallons now also.

I need to let out a BIG THANKS to Paul Jensen and Bluffton Bay Marina. I switched to Bluffton Bay Marina this year. It is only 3/4 mile to the channel to Lake Michigan, and they have a fish cleaning station! Its mostly a fishing marina and everyone shares information. I discovered a leak on my boat on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning I contacted the marina owner(Paul) and asked if he could pull my boat so I could work on it. I would have had to run home, grab my truck, and hunted down a got a trailer. Paul had another boat he was working on in the lift bay, and moved it so we could lift my boat out of the water. After the boat was lifted, I put the shift cable bellow back on, and I was back in the water. Paul did not charge me for lifting my boat. Thanks Paul for helping me out!

The marine forecast did not look good. I was going fishing today either on the big lake or on Muskegon Lake. The boys and I got to the boat at 7:00am Sharp! By the time I got the boat rigged, and ready to go, it was 7:30am. About 8:00am we made it to the pier heads. The waves were 1-2's and we motored out to 120FOW and set up. I set up a 9 rod spread, and we headed N-NW. Around 9:00am we had our first fish. We were in 135FOW. The fish hit a wire diver on #3 with 210' of line out, a ProTroll prochip 8 Blue Bubble flasher with a Siggs Rigs Blue Mist trophy fly. This ended up being a small king. Our next fish hit a Stinger Stingray NBK on a full core. It came unbuttoned before I got the board off. Our last fish came on a full core with a 4oz Dive Bomb with a Stinger Stingray Killer Dolphin. I reeled it in most of the way and took the Dive Bomb off. There was still 3 colors left when I put the rod in the rod holder for Wyatt. Here is Hunter helping Wyatt reel it in. Check out the 53lb'er they caught behind the boat. Other than the 2 fish we put in the boat, and 1 we lost, I caught 2 balloons. It sure was nice to be on the water today. Good thing the marine forecast was wrong.

I made it to the boat around 9pm Friday night. I rigged the boat for fishing, then proceded to drink some popular priced beverages with the neighbors. Around 10:30pm, I noticed my bildge pump kept kicking on and off. So......I went to investigate. I pulled the engine hatch and looked in the bildge. I was suprised when I saw a small stream of water coming in. The bildge pump was pumping it out faster than it was coming in, so I wasn't to worried. Not knowing exactly what the cause was, I cancelled the trip for Saturday. A few barley pops, and a lot of stories later(around 1 or 2 am), I went to bed. At 5:30am my phone started beeping. Someone was 2-waying me wanting to know if I was out. I get off the phone with Joe, and get back to sleep, and the phone rings around 6:00am. Its Don, wanting to know if I was out, and he was turning around in the channel heading back in. Somewheres around this time, I hear a charter boat start(twin 454's with side exhaust). blupp, bluppp, bluppp. I hear them go past my boat as they leave. Around 7am, I hear another charter boat start(twin 454's with side exhaust). blupp, bluppp, bluppp. They leave and I get back to sleep. Somewhere's around 8:30am I finally get up. The boat is still afloat! I make arrangements with Bluffton Bays owner and we pull my boat so I can address the issue. The shift cable bellow had came off at the transom, and this was where the water was coming in. 5 minutes later, I have the bellow back on and ready to put the boat back in the water. Its now noon, the boat is back in my slip and not taking on water, so I packed up, and went home. I did not make it out fishing on Saturday, so I will be going back up Sunday morning to go fishing. If the big lake is too rough, I am planning on fishing Muskegon Lake for some walleye, or whatever will bite! Dont be alarmed if you see a salmon boat trolling around Muskegon Lake tomorrow. No I am not lost! I am planning on leaving the dock around 7am.

Question about stinger/pro troll flashers.
GLF replied to Lead_Lover's topic in Salmon Pro's Connection
Flasher Trolling Speeds Conventional 8 and 11 inch flashers are normally trolled between 2.0 and 2.5 miles per hour. This speed is needed to give the flasher good tail kicking action. The vibrations from the tail kick are what attracts the salmon. The new ProChip flashers with the agitator fin on the back can be trolled much slower than conventional flashers and still provide excellent tail kick. These can be trolled down to 1.0 mile per hour. At whatever speed you troll, look at your flasher action as you start to let it down. It should have a strong side to side tail kick along with a spin. The optimum salmon attraction occurs when the flasher is most erratic in its motion. I believe those speeds are speed at the ball. I did not have a speed and temp probe last year. I pulled them between 2.5 and 3.2 on the gps last year. Stinger came out with 12 custom painted ProTroll flashers this year. They also picked up 7 of the custom taped ones that Custom Fishing Products produced last year. The 8" are available in prochip 8(has agitator fin) or hotchip 8(does not have agitator fin). I believe the 11" flasher is only available as a hotchip model(no agitator fin). Most of the ProTroll flashers I have are the prochip 8's. Do to supply and demand, I only have 2 of the new custom painted ones from Stinger. I got these in the Stinger Challenge lure package. I have an assortment of the custom taped ProTroll flashers from last year, and ones that I purchased at the GR Sport RV show before they were added to the Stinger lineup. Probably my favorite is the 11" HC11795 Special Glow(Double White Pearl)(If you can find it, pick up 2 or more), flasher with a Siggs Rigs Blue Mist trophy fly. Stinger and ProTroll work together. You can also find the custom taped ones with a ProTroll label on them. The Blue Bubble Glow, Green Bubble Glow, and Mt. Dew Glow have also been good for me. Unfortunately, I only have the two custom painted flashers(NBK and Diehard). The flasher/fly bite should really take off soon. All of these flasher come with e-chip technology. You can read more about the echip here. I use these flashers with Siggs Rigs flies, and they are a GREAT combination. -
Arrgggghhhhh!!!!! Some scallywag popped the shift cable boot from the transon and she was taking on water. I pulled her out of the water and repaired the issue. The cannons will be locked, cocked, and ready to rock at the Dreamweaver. Davey Jones will be having some guests that day! Arrrrggggghhhhhh!

If you happen to see this pirate ship bearing down on you, you had better pull your lines and run.

I plan on leaving the dock by 6am, running out to 120FOW and set up. From there, I will probably head N or NE. -

Major issues with the new boat...help!
GLF replied to 2UNREEL's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
I had this problem with one of my engines. The exhaust bellow broke/came off at the lower unit and scooped up a bunch of water. My shutter valves were broken, and I had water in several cylinders. The valves do not instantly close at the end of the exhaust stroke. If his valves are sticking, its very possible to get water in the cylinder. I was also told about the garden hose/muffs and water issue.
