You can thank hurricane Ike for the price increase. It shut down all the refineries in Texas, and the oil rigs in the Gulf.

Nice job Bill. Its about time grab the Mathews bow and climb a tree. -
Where does your fish finder show the fish at? I mark a lot of fish around 13' down and 23' down. I target these depths if I am in the channel. If you are fishing plugs, you should take into account how deep they dive. Then set up a program that will put your baits in the strike zone. I am running my baits 20 behind the ball. You will need the shorter leads for sharper turns. I try to keep the boat around 2mph for the down speed while doing harbor patrol.

Glad to hear your buddies found their way back in. -
Who forgot to turn off the faucet today? It rained ALL day long! I was joined by Roy, Matt, Mark(SuperHappyFunTime) and my two sons. We left the dock at 6:40am. We set 3 riggers and 2 divers at the start of the channel and trolled out. We marked a few fish in the channel and could not get nothing going, so we kept going out. We picked up a 13lb King in 30FOW on a half core with a Silver Horde Blue Mylar plug. After a quick discussion, we decided to continue West until we found the temp break and try for some 2 & 3 yr olds. After a long troll out to 100FOW, we found a temp break(57 degrees) at 90' down. We trolled around in 110FOW for about an hour and finally picked up a small 2 year old king on a Stinger green dolphin, on a fixed slider set 10' above the ball down 95'. Around 11am we decided to run back in, set up in front of the channel, and troll back into Muskegon Lake. We pulled lines at 12:15 in front of the sand docks. We ended up 2 for 2. This is Matt with the 2 he caught. I stayed pretty dry because I had a full set of rain gear today. What about you Mark?

Divisions and Tournament Dates Each division will have its own tournament dates. Its possible some of them may be on the same weekend(s) as other divisions.
-
There will be a small membership fee per year to be able to fish in the events. I have not decided on the amount yet. It will be less than $30 per year. Once you are a paid member, you may fish in any of the current years events, in any division(you still have to qualify for the classic). So...if you are a diehard fisherman, it will be possible to fish in a tournament almost every weekend. There is no way I could run every division. I will be looking for tournament directors to run each division.

Thats exactly what I am saying. This is not a traveling tournament trail. A division would be 1 port. South Haven would be its own division and would fish 5 tournaments out of South Haven. Muskegon would be its own division and would fish 5 tournaments out of Muskegon. etc, etc, etc.... After every division fishes its 5 qualifying tournaments, the top 30% of the teams, along with a wildcard from each division would qualify to fish in the classic. There will be a minimum amount of boats for each division. One other thing I forgot to mention. This is an ameteur only tournament. The captain of the boat, nor any crew member can be a charter captain, or have held a captains license in the last 2 years.

Have you checked the webcams link in the top navbar? This link has been there for most of the summer. There is also an interesting post I made earlier this year about the webcam with a lot of lampreys attached to the fish.

I am getting ready to start a new tournament trail. I have the website built for it, but I am not ready to unveil it. It will start out on the West side of Michigan and branch out from there. The tournament trail will have several divisions. The top 30% of the teams from each division will qualify to fish in a 2 day Classic for BIGGER prizes. I would like to end up with a division for each port. There will be a minimum of 5 one day tournaments in each division. Money from each division tournament will also be pooled toward the classic. Another chance to qualify for the classic. There will also be a wildcard position from each division that will get to fish in the Classic. If you fish in all 5 tournaments in a division and do not qualify for the classic, your name will be put into a drawing after the last qualifying. The name that gets drawn will be the wild card entry for that division. Before I officially launch the new tournament trail, I am looking to see how many would be interested in this type of a fishing a tournament. If you have any question, please ask.

Lets see the big ones. Post your pictures. We put 2 in the boat this year that weighed 17lbs. Here is Roy with a 17lb'er. The picture does not do the fish justice. Here is tltorrice with a 17lb'er he caught while fishing with me.

Welcome to the site timtube. Check out this post. The lake rolled last week and brought a bunch of cold water in close for last weekend. It looks like it is rolling again this week, and bringing the warm water back in. There was also a good run last weekend. Pike fishing in Muskegon lake is dynamite this year. I am not sure about the pike fishing at Spring Lake. -
Looks like the Saudi's are finally seeing the affects of the price of oil on the world economy. Its about time someone in OPEC gets some kahunas. Now if we can just get all of the speculators to quit speculating that oil will hit $200 a barrel sometime between 2008-2012. All these guy do is scream "the sky is falling" and the market reacts.

Saudi Arabia walked out on OPEC yesterday. It said it would not honor the cartel's production cut. It was tired of rants from Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and the well-dressed oil minister from Iran. As the world's largest crude exporter, the kingdom in the desert took its ball and went home. As the Saudis left the building the message was shockingly clear. According to The New York Times, “Saudi Arabia will meet the market’s demand,†a senior OPEC delegate said. “We will see what the market requires and we will not leave a customer without oil." OPEC will still have lavish meetings and a nifty headquarters in Vienna, Austria, but the Saudis have made certain the the organization has lost its teeth. Even though the cartel argued that the sudden drop in crude as due to "over-supply", OPEC's most powerful member knows that the drop may only be temporary. Cold weather later this year could put pressure on prices. So could a decision by Russia that it wants to "punish" the US and EU for a time. That political battle is only at its beginning. The downward pressure on oil got a second hand. Brazil has confirmed another huge oil deposit to add to one it discovered off-shore earlier this year. The first field uncovered by Petrobras has the promise of being one of the largest in the world. That breadth of that deposit has now expanded. OPEC needs that Saudis to have any credibility in terms of pricing, supply, and the ongoing success of its bully pulpit. By failing to keep its most critical member it forfeits its leverage. OPEC has made no announcement to the effect that it is dissolving, but the process is already over. Story
