  1. Thanks for the update Jim!
  2. Have you seen the NEW Fishhawk? I have the new probe with the old unit, and love it. Notice how small the probe and unit are now. You do not have to replace your downrigger cable, the battery life of the new probe is suppose to be over 100 hours, and there is less blow back with the new probe. The new probe enclosed in acrylic, and is suppose to be able to go down to 300'. When you want to remove your downrigger, just remove it. There are no wires to disconnect for an antenna.
  3. The original date I had picked out for this was Aug 8th. I spoke with Deb at Fishermans landing again today. Now there is a powder puff, and a bass tournament also going on the same day. After the powder puff tourney, they are having a pig roast. This means it would be very crowded at the pavilion. If I was to move this to Sunday 9 Aug, there would not be any other tournaments going on. Does anyone have any issues with fishing this on a Sunday?
  4. The last 2 years, I have run a Stinger Challenge on Lake Michigan. I have brought on more sponsors for this years event. Michigan Stinger, Pro-Troll, Silver Horde, and Siggs Rigs will be sponsoring this years event. This years event, and all future events(except a possible Lake Huron Stinger Challenge), will be named the Great Lakes Fisherman Challenge. This years lure package will consist of: 2 Pro-Troll flashers 6 Stingray size Stinger spoons(1 will be a Nitro) 2 Silver Horde plugs 2 Siggs Rigs flies. I will post a couple of rules for those who are not familiar with the format. Everyones lure package will be identical. Same baits, same sizes, and same colors! Everyone is limited to 6 lines in the water. You may not have more than 6 lines in the water. You may attach sliders to these lines. You can not doctor the appearance of the baits you receive in your lure package. You are allowed to change the hooks. You can weigh in 5 fish, but are not allowed to have more than 10 fish in your possesion. No culling or releasing fish at the side of the boat. This years challenge will be in August at Fishermans Landing in Muskegon. Look for a sign up thread in the next couple of weeks.
  5. Looking at the webcam, it looks like Muskegon Lake is open. Is the lake open all of the wait to Hartshorn Marina? What about Bluffton Bay.....Can I get my boat in yet? It wont be long now.
  6. Here is a kewl shot from one of the webcams today. Check out the way the light reflects off the water. It almost looks like there is a bunch of x-mas lights, or balloons floating on the water. Maybe the Easter bunny dropped a bunch of eggs in the water by accident.
  7. I fish out of Muskegon.
  8. I spoke with one of the commercial fisherman in Muskegon last year about nets. He told me it is a common practice to pull the buoys in the winter, and let the nets sink to the bottom.
  9. My father chartered out of Manistee in the late 80's. He ran the boat Glory Daze.
  10. I caught a 38lb carp on 12lb test, on the St. Joseph river and weighed it on a certified scale at Tackle Haven. This was a master angler carp. Unfortunately, I did not know at the time I had to get a picture of it in order for it to qualify for a master angler aware. I released it when the guy working at the store went inside. I did not know he went inside to get a camera. Whats everyones BIGGEST carp?
  11. Notice how the hooks are turned to the side. All of the fish in the pictures should be orientated the correct way and make for a GREAT picture.
  12. Welcome aboard Scott! How long have you been fishing out of Manistee? If you need anything, let out a shout! Mike
  13. Check out what Don(fishsniffer) made for the site. The logo and web address was laser cut into the metal. The photo board will be used at the GLFTT events, and the Great Lakes Fisherman Challenge this year. I can not wait to get some pictures posted on the site with fish hung on this board! Thanks Don!
  14. With a fixed slider, you know exactly where the slider is in relation to the ball(main line). With a free slider, the slider can be anywhere in between. I generally run my fixed sliders 10' above the ball. There are several ways to fix your slider to the main line. Some people use a rubber band and a half hitch, some use the stacker stickers, and some use a piece of surgical tubing/barrel swivel/bead. I use the surgical tubing/barrel/bead method. I am sure there are other devices for fixing sliders to the main line. I was fishing with another member a couple of years ago. He clipped the slider on to the rubber band only and not the main line. We had a hit on the slider, and brought in the main line only. In his defense.....it was dark when we set the lines.
  15. I have one of the new probes with the old style unit. I had over 60 hours on the batteries before I replaced them. Nature Vision did a nice job with the redesign.
  16. The above fish was caught during the first week of May. There will be fish in the mud when you get out there.
  17. Pine Creek by my house opened up on Friday. Hey Frank(Priority1)....hows the ice around your house? Hope all is well.
  18. Welcome aboard Keith! Did I meet you at the D & R Sports show? There is lots of good information and plenty of Saugatuck fishing reports posted in the fishing reports section. Dont hesitate to ask in one of the forums if you have any questions on anything. If you need anything else, just give a holler. Mike
  19. Good point!
  20. OK....Now I really have the itch to get out fishing! Nice job Richard!
  21. Don said Duane is a good fisherman! That was a poor choice of words in the original post on my part. After Frank pointed it out, I realized my mistake. Sorry Duane!
  22. The dates for the Muskegon Division of the GLFTT are posted on the website. If you would like fish in the tournaments, please register at the GLFTT and reply to the sign up thread.
  23. I added the fish cam to the web cam page.
  24. I talked with Don while he cut my hair. He talked about a couple of his trips with you. He also told my you was really good fisherman.
  25. Whos going to drive the boat when you have 3 on at once?
