Nice picture Cory. Welcome to Great Lakes Fisherman.

I didn't see anyone grab that rod. Let me know if you need someone to man the rod.

I use to scuba dive in San Diego and can relate to some of those images. I once grabbed an octopus for a second, and then it grabbed me. I use to go lobstering also. I was about to reach in one hole to grab a lobster when a morey eel popped up out of the hole. Glad I did not put my hand in that one. I had a lobster in my bag already and broke it in half and decided to try and feed it. I saw someone do it in a scuba diving magazine so I figured it was OK. Luckly nothing happened to me while I fed it the lobster tail. I wish someone I dived with or myself had a camera back then. Now they are just memories. Thanks for sharing the pictures.....it brought back lots of memories.

I was just like you. I also elisted in the navy after high school. They gave me 3 years of shore duty in San Diego after all of my schooling. I took up scuba diving while I was there. I was attached to a training squadron and use to go out on Carrier Qualifications with the new pilots. I made it out on 5 different aircraft carriers in those 3 years.

I would go with a 2 and a 5 color for what you have. With a 5 color and a 4oz dive bomb, its the same thing as a full core. Advantage of add on weights. Its easier to store a dozen weights than to store a dozen rods. You can make your 2 core rods almost any core with adding a weight. The only down side about add on weights is that you have to remove them before you can get the fish close enough to net. When using add on weights, you should have them at least 50' in front of your bait. You dont want to try and remove a weight from the line when the fish is at the back of the boat. This is a good way to get everything tangled.

Ever wonder how much backing you can put on your reel along with your lead core or copper? This is an excel spread sheet that will calculate how much of the various lines will fit on your reel. It was created by Eric Lang who goes by the username Arbogaster here. You have to have excel in order to use it. There are directions on how to use this on the spread sheet, and I am going to walk you through it also. Step one The first thing you need to do is to is to enter the line capacity for you reel in the Advertised Reel Data box. It is important that you use the Big Game dimensions for this first box. I have a reel in front of me that says it will hold 430 yds of 25lb line. In the line spec table it shows berk. big game 25 = 0.019. In the Line Capacity in Yds box I am going to enter 430. In the Diameter of line in inches box I am going to enter 0.019. This shows the Calculated Reel Volume Capacity = 4.389 Cubic Inches. Step two Enter the diameters of the lines you wish to use on your reel in the Proposed Line Data box. I am going to use 30lb power pro for backing, 27lb lead core, and a 20lb leader. Enter the diameters in the boxes. Backing 0.011 Core 0.032 Leader 0.018 Step three Enter the length of the propsed lines you wish to place on the reel. I am going to use 300 yds of backing, 100 yds or core, and 25 yds of leader. Enter these lengths in the boxes. Backing 300 Core 100 Leader 25 This shows the reel is 94.6% full. Play around with different line combinations and see what you come up with. reel_fill_calculator.zip

I have been working on a bug with the subscription part of the software. For some reason previous supporting members still had access to this area even though their supporting membership had expired. I believe this issue is resolved now. I created an image that displays below supporting members usernames. Its now easy to recognize members who are supporting members. I changed the way everyone went into the usergroup. Everyone use to go in as a primary user. This created issues for some members who are charter captains. Now everyone goes in as a secondary usergroup. Everyone still has all of the extra perks of being a supporting member. For those that are unaware of all of the perks, here they are. Access to this private area 150 private messages 20mb of storage space in the gallery Ability to send pm's to users who have reached their quota Can set self to invisible mode Can use custom title Ablitiy to post your stuff for sale in classifieds section If anyone has any questions about any of these functions, please ask. Thanks again for supporting this website. Mike

The last couple of years, I used a Sony DCR CX40. I have a tripod I put on the boat and will also randomly record hoping to get a rigger rod popping. Most of the time, I only run the video camera when we have a fish on. This year I am hoping to upgrade to the Canon VIXIA HF S21. I would like to get 3 of these. Two of these would be at a fixed location on the boat.

I changed your user title to Ret. Charter Captain.

I dont want to take the chance that they will be able to find it. Keep them out, and lets not see "if" they can establish a population.
