  1. I've had Onan's, on land and the boat, and they are the best, and most expensive for purchase and parts, $12 for spark plugs, get it? I've had friends with great experience with Honda's products too, but I like their bikes better. I'd try online and ebay to shop for a few months to get the best deal. Many of the used units may be just like new, and the owner wants to ditch it for financial reasons right now. There's a lot of good deals on almost anything right now, if you have the moolah, and wait for your right deal.
  2. Looks like you two guys will be having quite a summer this year. When you get in Ludington waters, give me a radio call or look me up. Thanks.
  3. Fishcatcher Tuxedo with a green glow fly with 5-6' lead, over 40-60 fow in front of bathhouse and Ludington pierheads last August. Slow speed, 1.4-1.8 mph before dawn, and after dusk, keeping lure near bottom.
  4. Killerbe20 pretty much hit the nail on the head. Depends on the port and distances from shore. I see you fish Ludington per your pics. on your profile page Fly, if so, you should already be acquainted with Big Pt. Sable. The "bank" we refer to there, starts at about 60 fow, and drops to 150 fow in a hurry from the 00's to the 04's. It then drops again westerly from 150'-300' somewhat slower but not so distant from shore. Yes, when the early bite is finished shortly around 7-9am, depending on the time of year and traffic, we usually move offshore for steelhead and lakers, depending on the early action and consistency of bites. Please note, moving deeper usually means changing most of the early bite program to an entirely different program, again, depending on the month, and the fish you are targeting. It's a safer idea to stay within sight distance of other fishermen when venturing real deep in a small boat, in any weather, you're on the right track there. Thanks.
  5. A medium sized cooler with a padded seat on it serves two purposes too. Otherwise, consider a bigger boat too.
  6. What does that Sarge Moonshine look like Mattmishler? I've had good luck on the NK or Dreamweaver mag blue/green dolphin for about 10 years now. Moonshines are in the top spoons now too, and so is their new plugs, shine on.
  7. Thanks for the support guys, we need all the help we can get now. Long live the Cheeseheads! I just gotta believe that the defense is gonna knock out Big Ben, just like Vick and the others at Atlanta and Chicago. That makes the icing soooooo much sweeter. As Vince Lombardi said, winning is everything everyday, not just a once in a while thing, it's an all the time thing. Same for Fishing, don't let the fish get the best of you, you get the best of them, all the time.
  8. It's pretty astonishing to me, after the season for GB, I pretty much gave in. BUT, in a last digit effort, as a Wild Card Team, the BOYS in Wisconsin have made it into the Super Bowl, 7th Time overall. So, if you're a Lions fan, sorry Charlie, you're gonna have to lick your paws and wounds again this season. I was that way many years ago too. I really don't expect the Pack to rule over the Steelers, but, who KNOWS? Anyhow, now you all know where MY LOVE truly is concerning the NFL Greats. Tis the GB Guts that Lomabardi instilled, and hoping for another Ring of Greatness to come in two weeks. Plus that Lombardi Trophy, where it Truly Belongs.
  9. Eam0885, this is a very seldom occurrence, in all defense of Ludington. Just some Kids that must have more time on their hands, than guardianship from adults. So sorry, do lock up ALL your stuff in the future, tis the times we're in I do suppose, and the lack of civility that is crossing the nation right now. Report this to Chief Barnett, so if the property shows up in the future, it will be returned intact.
  10. Killerbe20 has the right choice for me. The 3M product I used in a gallon can was a pasty material, we applied with foam pads soft towels, a lot of hard elbow grease, probably 2-3 applications will get you back to new condition. I use an electric wheel, buffer to remove. The cost for 3M is always more, in this case, they have the far superior product like the boat yards all use to "wheel out the hull". You could also get a quote for a wheel out from the boatyard if this is too labor intensive, usually about $300 for boats under 27' or so, check around, they are slow now, must be in heated room this time of year, over 60 degrees. Any pics of the Donzi? Thanks.
  11. Thanks for the info. Eyefull, I have now bought my first 2 gallon ziploc bags and find them quite nice, 10 per box, about $3.50 each. They will be useful next big catch.

  12. We had a big wind turbine farm proposed last summer in Ludington, to be out in Lake Michigan, with about 200 units constructed, right in front of our pierheads and south to Pentwater. Everyone in our region objected strongly to this intrusion and ruination project in our precious Lake. An eyesore and NOT what the developers bragged up at all. Most ALL of the engineering, manufacturing, and installation was to go to overseas contractors and jobs related also would be farmed out. All to be paid with US taxpayer monies too. If anyone cares to investigate closely, you will find these wind turbines are NOT nearly as energy efficient as advertised, and the cost in noise and air tragedies to waterfowl is certainly NOT worth the effort.
  13. Yeah, that's those nasty things that leave the scent of Herring on your fingers for three days after you use them, plus, you gotta run them back about 600' to get results. I'll leave that to the customers to reel in, 2 football fields of line is stretching the length a fish needs to be caught on in my opinion. But, I did like the video of the Columbia River catches. Thanks.
  14. Check out Sorry Charlie Sportfishing Charters out of Sheboygan Wisconsin, talk about a guy that likes running Divers? He's the Slide Diver pro, and salesman too. It's the ONLY program he runs on that boat, divers and only divers, and catches the Heck out of the fish everyday too. Mostly limit catches, I know, I've been aboard.
  15. I use the center rigger areas mostly to net fish nowadays. So, the "chute" area always gets a core rod, usually 10-12 color, mostly in deeper water with a 1# wt. rubber banded. It's moved immediately when a fish hits on the port or starboard side to the opposite side, it usually avoids tangles this way. It's been a hot rod for me over the last 10 years, don't discount it if you use my method of moving it asap after a hit. Best bait has been a magnum green glow dolphin spoon, NK or Dreamweaver heavy spoon, sometimes I attach a second treble hook trailering back about 4" when they are hitting short.
  16. Hardy har, wish I was 46 again, but a groin pull isn't anything to laugh about at any age. Hope ya heal up soon, don't lift again for a while either, like a month or more. If you're going to a larger craft like that size, may I suggest my dream boat, a 43' Tiara open, has a 15'6" beam, real stable, but still too pricey for me yet. Have fun dreaming.
  17. I can still see all the scales on the fish, obvious. Nice recollection picture. Thanks.
  18. My biggest Steelie boated was 21#, caught off Manistee, customer mounted it. And the biggest mounted on my wall is 18#, this being caught in 1989 at Big Point Sauble. To my recollection, both were on red or orange spoons on riggers.
  19. I'll pitch in two cents for the fun: most of the steelies I've had on flies for me came off divers, glow greens, wartfroggy glows, blue fairways too, mostly the shorter ones 25-75' back, shorter leads with spindoctor paddles. Although it surprised me that some bigger ones also came deep off deep riggers in deep water too when we were targeting Kings. Those are dandy pics. GLF, can you remember what depths or how far back yours came on? Thanks.
  20. I guess we're pretty much spoiled up north from Pentwater to Manistee, especially Ludington's Big Point Sauble. Talk about structure and drop offs! If you've never fished up here, try it, you'll like it. And btw, I've traveled most of the west side of the lake in Wisconsin waters, I do feel WE have the better structure for fishing.
  21. Nice Nailer, and the pics. say it was worth the cold. Thanks for sharing.
  22. Nice pics of the catch there Chris. I'm not far from the lagoon, about 15 miles this winter, gonna have to give that a try when time and weather permits. Thanks.
  23. Nice pics of the redfish and action down Fl. way. I'm in Cocoa this winter for work and health reasons. Maybe we'll see each other, I'm a scant 45 miles away from Orlando now. My cell's on my website if you get in the area. Thanks.

  24. Hi Steve and welcome to the GLF forum. We talked on an earlier thread about getting deep with certain core setups, and it was also noted that a weight attached just after the core is out, here it would be copper, would make the rig go deeper too without the necessity of running a lot more line. Try a 1/2#, 1#, or if you can get them, 2# wt. rubber banded to the line. This should get you another 10'-25' in depth, without the necessity for more copper, bigger reels, and etc.. I know some guys will say go ahead and run 600'-750' of copper, their budgets for reels and equipment might be more than some others though. Good fishing.
  25. Hi Matt, welcome to the GLF forum. Look me up sometime if you come to Lk. Michigan. Thanks.
