  1. These newer 5.3 vortec engines will go 400,000+ miles, gets 20 mpg hwy., given the proper maintenance and driving habits. She has 172,000 mostly highway miles right now. The price of a new 2011 is $43K, w/o a moon roof.
  2. I have my favorite all-time CHEVY truck for sale now. She's got every option available, including heated memory lumbar leather captains chairs/console/power everything, incl. power moon roof, short 6' bed w/liner insert. She WILL tow any boat up to about 28', and I have towed my own 33' too. I live in beautiful port Ludington and am a mature adult driver that has never neglected this vehicle. This 4X4 can be seen and test driven by pm to me for phone number. Oh yeah, reason for selling, I just finally moved up to a 2010 model so I need to sell this in a big hurry before I head out of state for the winter. I also have about 40 pics I can email if requested when you send private message. She needs a new home that appreciates quality and class.
  3. This was very good news for us here in Ludville Saturday. It continues a tradition of steam powered passage between the link of Wisconsin and Michigan for over a century of success. Financially, the impact of the loss would be about $35Million, not exactly chump change for our ports. Our Rep. Bill Huizinga is the one that pushed for this amendment, it got unanimous support, later the House of Reps. will vote, and hopefully, Obama will sign it without further fanfare. Any of you that haven't yet made this 4 hour voyage one way, should do it someday. It's a great vacation idea, or anytime you want to get away for a nice cruise in safety going westerly.
  4. Never attempted such a feat. Why not move up to a newer/better boat? Either way, I wouldn't try it, but, if you have the expertise, and love that boat to no end, I guess it's viable. Should be interesting for sure, thanks for sharing.
  5. Congrats on the new early Xmas present, hope you enjoy.
  6. Methinks someone doesn't want holes drilled in the boat itself, but, that's ok. I like the idea of the board too, good for meat rigging, perhaps filleting also....lol. But the swim platform, for safety's sake, isn't the place to reel them in nor set lines, could fall off and get drowned. Just a thought as a fellow capt..
  7. Thanks for your cogent comments and friendship John. I hope our paths cross too, anytime in Ludington, call or visit.

  8. That's a pretty impressive website Ed, luv the gallery, thanks.
  9. Congrats on the excellent fish mount and catch, nice.
  10. Excellence supreme, thanks. Where's Kitchener? Is that where these were all shot?
  11. I agree Mark, last I heard it was legal to buy and own the 12 ga. flare gun, but not to use it. Kinda like the fuzz busters in our cars, more silly laws that should be repealed. But I know it's a safety issue that is a stinker for most of us.
  12. I didn't know Wis. or any State would dare count a slider as another rod, that's just silly, and inefficient for the angler. Yes, the free/stacked slider took the place of this quite a while ago, and with great success and efficiency. Sometimes though you get two fish on the same rod, hope your line and angler is strong enough to handle it if the fish are quite large....lol. I've had that quite a few times but either both fish were medium sized, or one was bigger and one smaller, so we got lucky and caught both. You ought to see the eyes of the angler when they see this happen, it's quite funny and not common in this sport at all.
  13. I guess we all concur about the rag/blow boaters. I would guess these cheapskates never owned a powerboat in their lives, nor really learned and read up on the USCG rules of the road. Ask almost all, and they will tell you they have priority over ALL boats on the water because of their more inherent inability to maneuver. Truth be known, seaplanes have legal priority over ALL, and blow boaters also become a powerboat when powering and not sailing, as mentioned already by a wise capt..
  14. They have combo units at Lowes for smoking/grilling already. I thought they were about $300 or so, check that out, or like they say, build your own.
  15. As big as some beamy boats go, you'll never use one 30' wide. Sounds like it was designed for a garage/shed/fish cleaning station perhaps.
  16. Hey Matt, congrats on finding a great forum, and welcome. The charter guys I used to know in Manitowoc were all pretty informative and friendly. There's also another charter guy in Sheboygan, Sorry Charlie Charters that will help guide you locally and charter you for a great time and catch. But, the guys here are always the best to check with in the off-season months. Good fishing.
  17. Heard 18' waves were measured at the south weather buoy today, wonder what the north one said, lol. Even the carferry Badger here stayed in port awaiting better wave conditions, and she's a whopping 435' long or so.
  18. Thanks for the great pics. of the ws actions, I'm glad you and crew kept safe. It has been several years since I've witnessed one, and don't like the memories of these now or in the past, very dangerous indeed.
  19. Thanks for sharing that fantastic story and pics. Jim, keep up the good work.
  20. Dave, your tally shows you got out 50 times, quite impressive and so are your catches. Congrats on a great year, last trip was just a fluke for you it appears. Now get that Buck...lol.
  21. Sounds all too familiar these days Kevin, sorry for Squeaky too. Maybe the best youthful type birthday is to go fishing with dad and dinner at Mickey D's with a cone/sundae desert these days.
  22. The world could use a lot more guys with your message and attitude Robert, job well done, and well said.
  23. I fondly remember the Michigan squids as the premiere bait in the 80's and 90's. They do still work well, if you can find them. The green glow and clown glows were most popular, but any glow color should work ok.
  24. Sounds like the new boat shouldn't need anything bigger than 2 footers. When your next new boat is bigger yet, perhaps has a swim platform, and higher gunwales, then consider the 4 footers.
  25. I think I too did this a few years ago in error, not knowing that the etiquette was to the contrary. Having said that, I now have adjusted the posts to small letters, unless I want to make my point firm and clear. I think it's just a matter of not knowing, not just wanting to yell out, but that's just my opinion. Once someone knows, they either adjust, or continue to want to do it THEIR WAY, irregardless. Bold caps and italics are also an option to make a point firm.....LOL.
