  1. Fun fishing with friends: took 14 kings sized 20-33#, all silver too. Biggest Coho 16#.
  2. Welcome to the GLF site Brett, enjoy.
  3. Great choice Rick, welcome. Yes, it's a bit late now, except for river fishing, that's hot now. Check with an Ontario charter service fish reports.
  4. Really Nailer, what was the wt. & location? And can you post a pic.? Thanks.
  5. Thanks, yes, NOAA was wrong, again. Hope Joel posts his results after the weekend, could be interesting. Good fishing.
  6. Tom Healy caught the 41#7oz. on 9/10/09 Manistee River.
  7. Michael, the rules are rules, period. Sailboat/blowboats, only have the ROW while under sail, not power. They constantly abuse that right, based on some weird train-of-thought interpretation of the nautical rules. Sad, but true! Good fishing in spite of them idiots.
  8. Remember, that's the big Lk. Mich. forecast. The inland lake of PM Lake, differs quite substantially, that's where the big fish are now too, running up to PM River. Quiet, don't tell everyone, lol.
  9. Hmm, 18" super super mag spoon? Where do I get one? Thanks. Thunderduck? Would you please explain?
  10. Great choice Keith, warm welcomes.
  11. Nice analysis Matt, depends on the length of the copper being run for best results.
  12. Well, guess it depends on how many runs of salmon you count. As far as the present, yes, many salmon have already run. But not all, and the PM Lake is still full of fish right now, right up to and around the outside of the pierheads. A buddy of mine took 3 last nite, the biggest at just over 25#, the nite before, another buddy took 4, and the biggest was 27#. So, if you want a lot of fish, maybe offshore. If you want big fish, now, and inside. NOAA though may play another part in weather changing the program.
  13. If the jobs are very small Dave, you might find a body shop man that can do this on the side, if not yourself. Otherwise, looking at Bowkers website, I'd say they are quite impressive in all respects.
  14. Belated welcome Bill. Looks like both boats are loaded for bear, nice job.
  15. Central Lake Michigan was off this year for sure. The fishing was lousy April, May, and June, plus most of July. Later July and August saw fewer numbers than most years, but better quality, with heavier fish being caught day in and out, that's the best news. Strong underwater currents were pushing the fish in differing directions, and the wind shifted directions daily, and more all the time. Given the fact 13 is known to be an unlucky number, perhaps that also adds to the mix. Ludington is still taking upper 20's and 30's with cold water out front of the piers again. I did hear the PM River fishing is outstanding right now too.
  16. Can I come over for dinner, lol?
  17. Mr. Bob Manglitz is the CEO/Owner of the (LMC), Lake Michigan Carferry system. If anyone has complaints about their homes or boats being damaged, his office door is open to correct it, always has been. He will refer you to his specialist that addresses these issues from time to time, and always has cooperated. When outsiders come here in Ludington to complain about pollution, please take a look at the other industries here that also pollute. Note the old Dow Chemical Co., that had a large smoke stack that poured smoke into the fourth ward area for over 60 years. Then there is the Great Lakes Castings Corp., a foundry. These two companies alone made more offensive pollution per year than any carferry could in a lifetime. They also pay large penalty fines for such behavior, which more times than not, is unavoidable due to the type of work involved. The carferry operation has about 100 seasonal/year-around employees. It also contributes about $25Million into the local economy with tourism, both of which if altered or discontinued, would devastate the local economy into the far future. Being careful to weigh all the options of where trade-offs need to come is tricky for both private industry and public safety. Instead of finger-pointing, some here may wish to take a voyage on her, see for yourself, then judge from a more personal perspective. And please do drop your comments in the suggestion box. Meanwhile, the operation will continue to correct it's behavior regarding ash as best it can, and continue to be a large asset to this small population of only 6,000 people.
  18. I'll fourth that motion. Tom does great work for great prices too, with fast turnaround. Yes, he does have his own drag washer system that greatly improves on the reel's performance and longevity. Much better than the original mfr. drags. He's also very courteous and friendly.
  19. Think of this for just a moment: in the old old days most ships on the great lakes were all steam ships powered with coal fired boilers. Their ash too was dumped overboard as waste, but never affected the integrity of the clean water. Had this been true then, we would now have a very contaminated group of great lakes, totally unfit to swim or boat in. Is that the case? No, it's not. Even cigarette companies in the 60's advertised that charcoal filtered cigs. were not as toxic to ingest. This ash actually helps purify the water, not contaminate it. It's another EPA ploy to interrupt free enterprise for the sake of an agenda. The Badger will be storing the ash in the future in bulkheads, and unload it for upland dumping in Wisconsin from what is being said now. Is this a safer way to dispose of the ash? And with this added expense to the operation, whom do you think will pay for it? The consumers that sail on her will, with higher ticket prices for passage.
  20. Good choice joining here Mark, welcome.
  21. We have similar problems right here in Michigan too Adam. I think it depends on each officer's perspective, and whether they too fish or hunt themselves. Respect is not their forte most of the time, it's writing tickets, tickets, and more tickets for some officers. We need more involved and respectful officers, and that's becoming more hard to find year after year. I think DNR officers should have to be hired based on their own sports affiliated relationships with each of the sports they are patrolling, thus making better judgements, and having more in common with his fellow sportsman. This would smooth out things a lot better imho, and make everyone more happy with the issues.
  22. Can anyone post that pic. of the fish? It might tell us more facts, and I'm curious to see it's length and girth. Thanks.
  23. Great report on how to avoid the combat fishing up north Ed, thanks.
  24. Welcome aboard Jerome, enjoy the site.
  25. Ryan, I know we are 60 miles away from each other here in Ludville, but I hope you might share my observations, that the underwater currents here are not normal this season at all! In fact, they are very fast, then a mile or two later, very slow. It's a mis-calculation to assume that Lk. Michigan is the same this season, as many previous. This is literally forcing fisherman to adjust to some extremes that we haven't seen in many years. Watch the graph, and hope to make the necessary changes, as the speed/temps. of water is mostly changing in short order all too often. For those interested, check out fish-ludington.com for some other interesting observations and comments. Thanks.
