  1. 30' leaders ehhh, sounds like fun.
  2. Jon, I sent you an e-mail last night regarding this. Ben
  3. I spend about $50 a trip in my 24' Slickcraft. I hope to add a kicker next year after I have graduated.
  4. Made a quick trip out with a couple of friends and their significant others. Didn't get lines set until about 6:15 in 90 FOW. Being that there were some pretty good rollers out there and I was essentially running the boat myself, took a while to get lines set. Ended the night around 9:00 in 180 FOW when it got too cold to stand anymore. Finished at 4 for 6. Nice to watch the girls having fun reeling in the fish. Not real strategy for the night, just put lures down and ran them. What worked: Mag Silver Streak Lemon Berry 75 down on rigger - 1 laker Glow Back Blue dolphin as freeslider on rigger at 75 - 1 miss Due to being too busy on the phone with Dave Ash about tomorrows plans. UV Stinger Mixed Veggies on 5 color - 1 king Moonshine Double Trouble 75 down on rigger - 1 king Big White Paddle with Proctoligist fly 130 down on rigger - 1 hit with no one home Mixed Veggies SD/Big Weenie Blue Magoo fly on wire 120 back - 1 big king
  5. Nice Job Matt. Just a tip, if you have a cover for your knife, put your name and number on it. I left my brand new Forschner at the station last year but thankfully fisherman are a pretty good group of guys and I got it returned to me.
  6. Way to put it to 'em Ken. Sounds like our day yesterday
  7. Good Job Dave. Also, for anyone that questions if the UV Spindoctors and teaser rigs work, I will back Dave up and say that the fish absolutely slam them.
  8. Great, now I'm craving some BBQ. Look's Great!
  9. Any time Mike, sorry to hear your trip didn't go as well. Hopefully you can get it figured out.
  10. Leaders are anywhere from 3 to 4 feet. I try to run them about 20' behind the ball.
  11. The fishing is still red hot out of Holland. Took my little brother out this morning for his first trip of the year. Got a late start waiting for a slow crew member. Started setting lines in 90 FOW at around 7:30. Started ran a 6 line spread all day but it might as well have been 4. We were running a 300' #45 copper on one side of the boat and 300' #32 copper on the other side. Also, a wire diver on each side and two riggers. Started hitting fish around 130 FOW and got all the way out to 240 FOW before we had a chance to rest. Ended up 13 for 17, could have got the last two but is started raining pretty hard around 10:30 so decided to call it a day. we had 4 kings over 10lbs with the biggest pushing 18. 2 more medium kings, 2 small kings, 2 coho, and 1 bonus laker. I think we had 4 or 5 doubles and a triple on the day. It was lots of fun all around. What worked: 11" White crush glow paddle with fish scale/proctoligist fly 130' on rigger - 1 laker and 2 big kings Same paddle with glow mirage fly 97' on rigger - 3 big kings Moonshine Double Trouble 97' on rigger- 2 small kings Big Lake Lures Blue Kato on 300' #32 Copper - 2 coho Blue Water Fly Green Crinkle 3 fly Teaser rig with UV SD 220 on wire diver set at 1 - 3 kings Started with double trouble on the rigger because of the reports of people catching on Moonshines. But, when the big paddle on the rigger started caching big kings and the spoons were only taking small fish we changed over the other rigger to another paddle.
  12. Making me jealous, nice Dave.
  13. Tony's last point is why I wouldn't use braid no roller rods. The rods are designed for wire which is significantly thicker than braid. Most likely, there is room next to the roller for the braid to get caught and then you will lose your gear.
  14. Personally I've never run an SWR. I do like my big white paddle on the deeprigger with 20lb mono about 25ft behind the ball.
  15. Looks nice Ken.
  16. Sounds like a fun time.
  17. Nice boat Mike. I would agree with Jon on the trees. You can always take them off later when you get a hard top.
  18. Was going to but have class thursday nights the first half of the summer so I cant
  19. You combat fished last year
  20. I would not buy two more 10 colors. I only have one 10 color, a 7, 5, and 3 color that I run. Last year I added a 300' copper to the spread, and this spring a 250' copper. I would recommend at least these lengths. They have boated a lot of fish in the short time I've had them. I'm using #45 Blood Run copper.
  21. Went for a last minute trip out of Holland last night with a friend from school, his roommate and his roommate's girlfriend. Set lines in 100 FOW heading SW. Didn't mark much of anything until we got out past 160. Tried a few different directions and speeds but started off 0 for 3. Finally got a good hit on the deep rigger with the big paddle. Ended up being a 15lb king. Never got anything hot going all night. Ended up 6 for 11 with one more good fish we lost on the 10 color when he got into the 5 color. What worked: Big Lake Lures Glo Easter Egg on 3 color - 1 small king Stinger UV Mixed Veggie on 7 color - 1 throwback king and 1 hit no name Mag Blue Dolphin on 250 copper - 1 hit Big Lake Lures Green Kato on Rigger at 85 - 1 small king 11" white crush glow ProTrol with Proctoligist fly - 1 big king and 2 hits Silver Streak Mag U of M Frog on 10 color - 1 coho and 1 one big hit Big Lake Lures Mod Blue Veggie on 5 color - 1 coho The fish seemed to be missing baits alot because three of the fish we boated were not hooked square in the mouth. Also a lesson learned, if you get a small fish but then everything turns off, check your lines. We also had 3 "shakers" that we didn't notice even though two of them were decent sized fish.
  22. I highly recommend using sliders. I bet half of my fish I caught on down riggers last year came off sliders. Also, make sure you use Flourocarbon for the slider leaders. I started getting way more hits my riggers after I changed my leaders over to 20lb Gamma Flouro.
