Anyone with kicker on an aluminum cuddy?
danthebuilder replied to rbradley's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
They make cheap tiller extension handles but its not fun to stand at the back of the boat and steer from there. EZ-steer is what you want if you get a kicker. -

Thanks for the report. That's absolutely amazing that you got that rod back. -
Its easier to apologize to the guy on the other forum than say what you said. Just apologize and tell him that you will slow down next time. I pier fish all the time and see people in town who i just saw pass me at the end of the pier 20-30 minutes earlier. You could easily hit someone's lines and they go into town and see your truck. Then 2-3 months later or next year they're on the pier again only this time they see you going out. They pack their stuff and head to the launch they slash your tires/break into your truck/steal your spare. This world has full of lowlifes. Don't do things to invite them into your life.

I rather go fishing 4-5 times more per season than pay $200 to fish a tournament. To me that's a no-brainer. I can't catch 12 fish anyways so not that it really matters to me. The local tournament does have a one day $100 shoot out. That I might join once I learn how to catch 12 fish. Now, if the 333 had an amature division where you didn't have to join the host tournament that was CHEAP. I'd definitely do that when the tournament was in town. I can catch 3 fish over 2 days(maybe!). But go up against those pro's in the 333... No thanks.

Time for MI Anglers and Hunters to Step Up
danthebuilder replied to EdB's topic in General Discussion
Military members that live in Michigan pay nothing for hunting/fishing licenses. My B.S. meter went off right away when I first read the proposal. http://www.freep.com/article/20130520/NEWS06/305200092/ Furthermore, you say the real reason for our problems is OUTSIDE money coming inside Michigan. Why does this proposal do NOTHING to fix the real problem? I know people who supported the ending of the DOVE hunt. They don't live in southeast michigan. Birds are an emotional thing when it comes to people who feed birds. They don't like people shooting them. You think these people want wolves in their backyards? They may only be in the U.P. right now but all it takes is a couple to run across that ice and we've got that problem down here too. People care about their dogs/cats/kids. The wolf hunt isn't in as much danger as people claim it is. "Sound Science" Is used a lot but it was left out in a few places when it matters to you. You mention Maine banning lead anchors. "SOUND SCIENCE" says lead is bad for you. I have had lead poisoning my life. IT SUCKS. I don't wish that on anyone. I'll gladly pay a little more for weights if they're not made with lead. It sucks that nobody here sells anything other than stuff for ice fishing. I understand a little lead here and there isn't that bad what about say the allegan dam area? That place has to be full of lead. That can't be good. It sounds like this "SOUND SCIENCE" is only important when the issues matter to you and the science aligns with your believes. 97% of scientists believe in global warming 3% don't. What it "SOUND SCIENCE" in this instance? If you ask both sides I'm sure they both say what they're saying is "SOUND SCIENCE" Just because its been VERY cold lately and areas of our ice caps are growing doesn't mean the world isn't warming. There is a reason why many people like to call it climate change other than use the words global warming. "Sound Science" can be whatever the ruling party says it is. Where the proposal doesn't use "SOUND SCIENCE" is where it talks about giving the DNR $1 million to fight asian carp. Do you really believe the DNR has a prayer of stopping anything with a million dollars? Once they're in our system the party is over. If we can't stop them in a narrow river how are we going to stop them in lake michigan and our rivers? I'm for giving them money to tackle this issue but this is just pandering. Where is this money coming from btw? Are we going to plant $1 million worth of less salmon so the DNR can electrocute some fish? Lastly, Why would you ever knowingly strip the rights of voters and give it to somebody in the government? There are countries that never get to vote. We have military members giving their lives so others in the future will be able to vote. All while you're at home giving military members free fishing licenses in trade for taking away our voting rights. BUT HEY! We killed 23 wolves this year! Weakening our voting rights is worth it and maybe next year we can get the quota and kill all 43!!!!! I'd love to shoot a wolf in my life but this trade off isn't worth it. -

Spent a few hours out there today with 2 others. Total bust. A few bites but didn't hook up. A few people around we saw catch fish but nothing worth driving there for. Heard reports of limits there a few days ago. Yesterday, I went to a small lake that shall never be named. Last year it was amazing could limit every trip if you wanted to. I never kept a single fish. I knew there was too much pressure on it. It was my 3nd trip to that lake this season. I've caught 0 gills so far. Really sad. If anyone knows where I can catch a pike in the area. I'd love a pm. I have put tip-ups with live minnows about 20x w/o a pike on various lakes in the area with no luck. Doesn't have to be big. I'll throw it back and be happy! idk where i'm supposed to put these reports so its going here!

Walmart.com has em for free shipping. Walmart you can always get things shipped free to your store too. There is a nice little trick that if the website says your store has something and you go in there and they claim they don't have it. Go back online and order it to be shipped to your store. They will somehow magically find the item and it'll be available for pick-up within a couple of hours.

Awesome, now all we need a dipsy diver redesign so they're removable. Hand lining those long leaders is getting old anyways. I'd love to add a 3 color to a dipsy if it was feasible.

I can't believe its finally working. Thanks!

Free Diving Pics & Spearing Vid
danthebuilder replied to danthebuilder's topic in General Discussion
Regulations for spearing are in the book on page 20 or 22. I don't remember. Whitefish is a spieces that you can spear as long as its not in a designated trout stream/lake. Muskegon is a designated trout river/lake so as long as you start west of the coast guard station like 20 yards. You're past the sand/shore and you're good to go. I think if the DNR wanted to write these guys a ticket they could for where in the video they threw the gun in the water/started. Looks like they're to the east of the building instead of west of the building. Not sure i'd start where they did if I was gonna do it. -
IDK if you've guys have seen this guy. I was searching to see how many people free dive in michigan and found these pictures. They're way cool. Supposibly of west grand tranverse bay. http://michiganfreediving.zenfolio.com/p844612916 Pretty sweet pics.

I fish the black river & pier in South Haven. Lost a steelhead this morning had it hooked up and next to the pier. It swam into the rocks that are next to the pier and broke the leader. If I wasn't alone I would have had him. I was kicking myself for even considering landing him in that spot while alone. Live and learn I guess.

The end of the north pier guys use spoons for steelhead. Mainly orange spoons. As for windspeed thats up to you. The waves are more of the killer for me. I only carry a 1.5 oz pyramid weight and if that isn't holding too well. I use that as a sign that its time to go. When the wind isn't out of the west as its been. You can normally fish one of the piers as the other will protect you from the waves. Saying that the north pier is where 90% of the pier fishing is done. There is a small craft advisory throught wednesday afternoon also if you look at tomorrow's forecast for LM845.... Tuesday West winds 10 to 20 knots. A slight chance of showers until midday...then showers likely in the afternoon. A slight chance of waterspouts through the day. Waves 4 to 6 feet. If you drive to South Haven and its a little nasty you're not out of options. If you go by the boat launch. You can fish the park there. If you drive past the boat launch to the end of the road. Take a right. Go to the end of that road and there will be a turn around. That area there is set aside for fishing. This is where you'll run into the locals. They rather fish there than the pier. A lot of steelhead end their life in that ~200 feet section of river. The land that is vacant on the other side of the little stream that is there is also city owned. You can fish there. The city is currently trying to get a grant to fix that side of the stream up. Grant money is a little hard to come by these days so it might take a few years but they're pretty determined to eventually get it done. I think they've been rejected 4x so far. You can also park at the kal-haven trailhead behind the court house and walk a quarter mile down the kal-haven trail past blue star highway & fish the boardwalk area that's in the turn in the river. You can fish on the land also past the boardwalk all the way to the covered bridge on the kal-havn trail as its all state owned. Its shy of a mile down the trail the parking lot. I like to fish there when its blowing on the pier but its a trek. There is a steelhead tournament the saturday after thanksgiving so figure it out before then and come take everyones money.
