  1. Thanks for this post ekbelt. I had no clue they worked like that. What is the ballpark cost for the unit?
  2. Sorry to hear that. I was afraid of that as soon as you were asking prices. I wish I could help.
  3. Who wants to go swimming at Indiana beach??!!?!?!
  4. They have signs. I think they need to put up signs saying 88 people died last year in lake michigan. X died so far this year. Is it too wavy? Read this entire sign before continuing. Do you want to be DEATH X+1? Stay out of the water. I would put then only next to every pay box at the beaches. That way they don't have to worry about the liabilities of having the wrong flag up. The people who cry about the costs is why i said put it next to the pay boxes. You got a guy who service the box. He can service the sign. If the city/place doesn't have a pay box. It should up to the city to decide if they want to put up a more advanced sign or basic one like the undertow signs they already have.
  5. I saw this the other day. Its a neat idea but... Just 4 led lights inside of it. Seemed a tad over priced for me. http://www.bigpapasportfishing.com/charge_box.htm
  6. Do yourself a favor. Run only 2 riggers & put run the rest of the lines as copper/dipseys.
  7. This is a stupid idea. As a man who has canoed 175+ miles in my life. I cannot see taking a trip around lake Michigan. What happens if you plan a trip for a week and then its super wavy for half the week? The money would be better spent developing the river access like they're currently doing in the black river. Maybe, down in Indiana its not as wavy?! btw, spent time on the manistee & st joe.
  8. The refund was mentioned early in the year "we'll refund & give you a pass". After the dream of getting a pass was given up I didn't bother trying to get a refund. I started using quarters at the end of the year out of spite.
  9. I have been out in some very big waves w/ an 18 foot smoker craft. Nice boat.
  10. With the advisory not to eat lake trout this year. Then Obama putting his foot down on coal plants is something that i'm actually glad he did. You don't have to be a tree hugger to understand that this will help clean up the lake & make the fish more edible.
  11. It appears that city council has finally acting on the problems with the season passes that came up this year. Here are the minutes.... City Council will be asked to consider awarding the bid for parking pay terminals at South Beach, North Beach and Black River Park to Total Parking Solutions in the amount of $99,660. Background Information: The City of South Haven has requested bids for parking pay terminals to be installed at South Beach, North Beach and Black River Park. South Beach is planned for new pay terminals as part of a larger parking lot reconstruction project. North Beach is included in the project because it is a paid parking area with a lot of use and it is a high maintenance enforcement area. Black River Park has been added to the project because of problems with the existing pay terminal in that location and the need to replace the pay terminal. Based on review of the products available and experiences in other communities, we believe that there will be a decrease in the amount of staff time required to do enforcement, and an increase in parking system revenue by using an automated pay terminal. In addition, the automated pay terminal would allow the boat launch at Black River Park to be a paid service for a longer season than currently in use, which will also increase revenue. -5- The purpose of the Parking Pay Terminal bid is to select a vendor who will work with the City to determine the exact number of pay terminals as well as exact location of the terminals. The specified dollar amounts in the bid are based on an estimate of the number of terminals and may be changed after review of the parking areas with the selected vendor. The purpose of the bid amounts are to allow comparison between vendors and to select a vendor. During 2011, staff experienced problems with the computer hardware that activated seasonal pass cards at Black River Park. We attempted to work with the firm that serviced the pay terminal (Traffic and Safety Controls), but were unable to get the seasonal card system to work. This experience has emphasized the importance of a responsive firm with a service crew that can respond quickly, with an adequate replacement part inventory that can be delivered the same day. After interviewing city staff who had worked with Traffic and Safety Controls, I recommend that we disqualify Traffic and Safety Controls and their equipment supplier (Digital Pioneer) due to poor customer service. The notes from the interviews with staff are available upon request. The bidder VenTek, which is headquartered in California, proposes to warehouse parts in California and service the pay terminals with technicians who travel the entire midwest (or possibly the US). The firm who would do the service has not yet been selected and would be a subcontractor to VenTek. Staff is concerned about the response time of technicians who do not have a home office within one day driving time, and the lack of a spare parts warehouse in the midwest. Staff recommends disqualifying VenTek due to not having a home office and parts warehouse within daily driving distance from South Haven. The bidder Total Parking Solutions has its headquarters in Downer's Grove, Illinois. The nearest system is in St. Joseph, and references are positive. The bid amounts were used to prepare a cost comparison based on a 10 year service life of the equipment, with an annual maintenance contract. Moved by Kozlik Wall to award the bid for parking pay terminals at South Beach, North Beach and Black River Park to Total Parking Solutions in the amount of $99,660. Seconded by Patterson. A Roll Call Vote was taken: Yeas: Arnold, Bemis, Fitzgibbon, Klavins, Kozlik Wall, Patterson, Burr Nays: None Motion carried. THANK GOODNESS
  12. Can you send me the companies name?
  13. You try any carb cleaner?
  14. Someone want to tell me why you install tracks? Why not just mount everything in place? Do you slide things around that much?
  15. Why regulate when you can just altogether ban coal. This would take the mercury levels down in our fish big time. We also need to look at the big picture and just say what we all know. Solar isn't realistic & either is wind even when you factory in advances. The amount of land they take up for the energy produced isn't a good trade off. The wind doesn't always blow the sun doesn't always shine. The amount of transmission lines that will be to be built/added will be astronomical. Who wants more transmission lines? I know I don't... So you need to factor in the 10+ acres per 5MW wind machine + added transmission lines all across the country. People don't want to live near them as seen on this forum already. Nuclear is dirt cheap but there is an option that is CHEAPER & SAFER than nuclear. Wind & Solar costs 3x as much as nuclear & even with advances in costs coming down we're still looking at 2x as much as a minimum. Do you want to pay 2-3x what you pay for electricity right now? That's what we're setting ourselves to do. Its stupid. Thorium has no chance of melting down because it is already a liquid. If something breaks it turns off by design. Its like an electric stove. If problems happens and it losses electricity. It quits working. There is no runaway heat issues. The reason why we didn't built thorium in the first place was because it couldn't be used in a nuclear weapon. We researched it and proved it could work in the 1950s all we need is someone to invest the initial $1-2 billion to advance research then we're looking at ~$1 billion for the first reactor. No more worrying about fuel rods laying around that can be turned into nukes. No bank will write a loan for advancement of thorium because there are risks that costs could sky rocket on the first couple reactors built. It doesn't make sense to make the loan for $1 billion when they could come back and say its going to end up costing $5 billion. The government is pouring money into bad technology wind/solar it should step up and put a couple billion towards thorium and fix our energy problem once and for all. BTW, the Chinese are currently working on building thorium. So worst case scenario. we can just buy plants in the future from them. That's what we really want right? To buy everything from china? When we're looking for ways for our government to boost the economy and put people to work. I feel that this a small investment in thorium would be a total game changer. edit: Just want to point out this is not to be confused on the terrible idea bill gates is currently trying.
  16. Thank goodness. This should help cut down on the mercury levels in the fish. If they really want to do green energy they need to stop building solar plants & wind farms and start working on thorium.
  17. I think there is an easy way to solve this problem. I think people should be able to tell the power company what kinda power they want to buy. Nuclear/Natural Gas/Coal/Wind/Solar. People who want to pay for wind power. If they're willing to pay $600 a month instead of their normal $200 a month. More power to em. Wind costs over 3x as much. We all know this They should pay for it. Why is my bill forced to go up over this? Nuclear is the best technology & is being ignored/hated on. Its also the cheapest. It is also one of the safest per MWH. Personally, I think after a couple of months of billing people based on what they are willing to buy we'd have a nuclear power plant building boom... and btw, they can build em in my backyard. Nobody has any incentive to do anything but hate on nuclear power plant yet they enjoy the low costs of em each month without knowing the true blessing they are to our pockets. That needs to end.
  18. yah, that would work really well in our fishery. Perfect thing to snag all our lines on. How about we build a couple more nuke plants & call it a day.
  19. I was watching cnbc tonight and it was talking about putting prisoners to work. My jaw about hit the floor when I saw prisoners building rods. So there you go. If you want to learn how to build fishing rods you can always murder someone. http://www.gazette.com/articles/inmates-92172-prison-profit.html
  20. can't wait for photos.
