I just wanted to say it's pretty cool that nobody on here is bashing Best Chance Too. It seems like everyone is more interested in becoming better fisherman than getting in rediculious arguments over what other people are doing. I can honestly say I never see any negative postings, and that sure makes people have alot more fun and feel open to ask questions and talk about what other ideas they have. Honestly it just amazes me how people can get mad and argue through a computer screen. Keep up all the good info!

We ended Saturday 5 for 12 also. Certainly not the way you want your charters to go. Second worse day of the season.

Hey Jim, if that unit cost about $100 I would save my money and wait till you can buy a speed and temp unit for you downrigger. I would give up my temp probe anyday before I would ever give up my speed at the ball. If you don't have a speed gauge with all the strong currents out there this year you are almost wasting your time. Last Sunday the current was out of the North and if you didn't troll directly into it you didn't get touched, but if you did it was nonstop fish. Didn't matter the depth or temp but you had to troll into the current. I know that starting out buying all this stuff is expensive, but I would wait till there is a good price on one.

That's pretty cool. I have been seeing some pretty good ones also. Saturday at 4:00 in the afternoon there were 2 big ones out feeding in a soybean field. Starting to get pumped up for the fall.

Just curious, why do you think your electronics is the reason you aren't catching fish?

It's not your leadcore that's not working , the fish just haven't been hitting the cores the last couple weeks like normal. Most of our fish are coming on the riggers and divers, even midday. Just wait you will see the benefits soon enough.

Probably THE best shallow water presentation for big kings. As soon as their is a thermocline J plugs or Silver Hordes are a great way to target fish on lead core or down riggers. I have noticed when they are really going on plugs your riggers with a 50-60 ft stretch behind the ball the first hour are best, then run them on your cores mid morning.

Mikes Flies really are a great new product. I have caught over 50 fish on each of my # 11 and # 17 flies and they still look like the day I took them out of the package. Their are so many advantages to the larger diameter hole in the fly head, it makes dialing in the right flasher fly combo way faster than retying a new leader for each fly. The really cool part about his flies is there aren't 100 different ones to try and pick from, they are all proven patterns .

Jim if you want to run 9 rods I would never eliminate your dipsey for 4 riggers. I would loose a rigger. The best 9 rod setup you can start your trip with is 3 riggers 2 dipseys, and 4 cores all on boards. This time of year out of Milwaukee I would run 5's, 7's, and 10's. With this setup you should be able to double up pretty often on some of the big kings in Milwaukee. Next time we get some west winds and the kings stack up in 40-50 feet put a #5 green ladder back J plug on a 3 color on your outside board and you should pound some big kings.

Whats a maurader?

We fished Saturday and Sunday from 60-120 and 65-75 seemed the most consistent. 11 on Saturday and 14 on Sunday with 5 steelhead and a coho released. Magnum spoons worked best on Saturday and j plugs on Sunday. White cracked ice Proking was consistent both days and #4 silver bullet was best on lead core on Sunday. It seemed like there were enough fish around, but you really had to stay on them. Didn't finish up as well as we should have though. The thermocline is starting to set up and should be alot better fishing this coming week.

How far from the boat are your planer boards? That should never happen, something isn't right.

The best thing to do to start putting together a good program is write down what color baits are working at what depth. Make sure you also take note of the sky conditions, this is probably the most important part of getting it right. Cloudy day baits will also work well on sunny days when the sun is low on the horizon so if you have action don't automatically think it is a good sunny day bait. Keep track every trip and you will start to get comfortable picking the right baits without switching too much. Above all keep it simple, their are way to many color combos out their to sort through. You will find that the same 10 or so color combo will do most of your work, so get real comfortable with those and you will do more damage than the guy with 100 different colored spoons.

Does anyone know how many strains of lake trout are in Lake Michigan? I have seen the typical Lakers with white fins, and ones with orange fins and a few like the one in this post.

I would add more cores. You should be able to run 8 cores without any problems. Our typical spread is 2 corner riggers, 1 chute rigger, 2 divers, and 8 cores. If they won't hit any of that stuff their is probably a different problem to solve.

If you get some blue dolphin stingers or dreamweavers they will catch fish all season all day and at all depths. This is the most versatile spoon out there. An aqua fly is about the most versatile fly you can use also. Check out www.eyeflies.com for #11 and #17, these flies have been producing really well under all conditions and depths for us this season. Keep your flashers simple to start with. I would run one on each dipsey, a green blade on one side and white on the other and let the fish tell you what they want. The white one will work better on the deeper set and early and the green will work all day. The double pearl fishscale flasher is one of my favorite white blades also. Good luck.

I would get 2 boards because if you run it down the chute and tangle it will cost atleast $15 in lead core. Walleye boards are about $25 and seem to work the best in rough water.

Thats funny you say that because last year we caught one like that also and 2 of us thought it was a pike as it was coming to the boat!

I'm sure a few of you guys and gals have expierenced the typical hot spring bite followed by the setting up of the thermalcline. This usually results in a 2 week period where the fish really scatter and don't bite as well. Lets here your tactics for staying on good catches through this time frame. I'm sure we all can come up with a few things to help one another out.

I agee I've owned diawa's and penn's before but haven't bought anything except shimano in years. You get what you pay for in fishing reels. Buy it once for more or buy it atleast twice for less.
