Not a bad catch Jim. Dad and I fished this morning and ended up 3 for 4 with our biggest being a 6 pound laker. Fishing has really died off for a while now. I heard they are still getting them way out though.

Wow, that's brutal, I'm fishing Sunday and that's it for the year. Bowhunting starts next weekend!

If we aren't charter fishing we throw them all back. If they die they would be dead in a few weeks anyway. The bottom of the food chain needs all the help it can get right now.

Sounds like fishing is really getting tough. Like Mike was saying the water can get to cold and the best spot is at the harbors or river mouths. When you hear the pro's talking about the perfect water temp being 42-44 degrees I disagree, that's to cold for me, because the fish move to the harbor mouths and off the deeper structure.

Friday night northwest gales to 40 kt diminishing to gales to 35 kt. Chance of showers. Waves 12 to 16 ft.

Somebody in Michigan has to take a picture of those 15 foot waves.

Fishing this week has been good for us way out deep. The bite in close has slowed with shifting winds each day. This produced inconsistant water temps and strong cross current compared to our typical North current. We fished 15 plus miles off shore in 280- 330 feet. Mostly steelhead with cohos, some Kings, and Lakers mixed in. At the beginning of week the water was 41 degrees down 30 feet and now its around 68 degrees so the fishing is starting to slow a little. Spoons in pinks, greens, blues, and watermelon were best. Most bites on leadcores and dipseys. Best speed was pretty fast for us being 2.3-3.0 on the Depth raider. The time of day doesn't matter to much for these fish, we caught them morning, mid day, and evening. Lots of acrobatics from the steelhead made for low landing ratio some days. Some shakers released each trip. Fished for fun today out of Racine with a friend. We went 8 for 10 all Kings with a few nice 4 year olds. Spoons on leadcore were best in 60-90 feet. 8/22 morning trip 10 for 20 8/23 evening trip 19 for 25 8/26 afternoon trip 14 for 25

Find your own fish. Fish away from the pack. Just because their are 100 boats fishing in one spot doesn't mean that's the best fishing. If each boat catches 10 fish that means their has to be 1000 fish below you, if your are the only one there there only has to be 100 fish below you and you should do better than everyone else. Fish your own program, not what you heard was working at the dock.

Fished the Brew City Tournament Saturday. We pre fished Friday for 8 hours and caught 9 fish, so we were pretty nervous about Saturday. Saturday we set up where we finished on friday in 85 feet. No fish for the first 25 minutes of the morning until we hit 100 feet and the screen lit up with Lakers on the bottom. So we set our gear to run close to the bottom and started to get bit. We kept the first 15 fish with our 6 lake trout limit. White blades on all rods with aqua flies for the kings and boy blue and the #7 pearl eye ghost and#8 green glo eye ghost Eye flies with yellow beads for the lakers. The kings were in the warm water in the top 50 feet and lakers right on the bottom. We had our 15th fish by 9:30 and headed in. Ended up 9th out of 115 boats with 142.7 pounds. Looks like some West winds this week should bring alot of 4 year olds close to shore.

Jim, Different areas of the great lakes will have different results with plugs. The main thing to keep in mind is they are a King setup. They will certainly catch all species of fish, but are best for Kings. Each bait and presentation has it's place and time to shine, knowing when that is, is the key. I find plugs to work whenever their is a thermocline and there are kings in 70 feet or less, outside of 70 feet I feel their are better setups. So for a general rule fishing milwaukee June through September is When I fish them. My advice would be to find 3 colors that work on sunny days and 3 colors for cloudy day, If conditions are right for plugs you should get results with them, if not try other presentations.

Fished Saturday morning from 5:30-9:00. The morning started with a double in the first hour and that was it. Then one fish ever 20 minutes to half hour. Caught all fish on flasher flies on divers and riggers, only 2 bites on leadcores all morning. White and green blades with fins worked best with aqua flies. Caught fish from 50-130, but 85-95 was best. The break was down about 40ft. Finished the morning 11 for 11. Brew City Tournament next weekend! What is the most important aspect of your flasher fly program? What things do you do or look for to have a productive flasher bite? It's getting to be that time of the season where flashers will rule over spoons on most trips.

It's been pretty good all season, but things are going to change really quick, and if we don't adapt it could get tough.
