  1. Late report from the 16th My son and I had a good night going 5 for 6 tossed one laker back and had one through the hook back so hard had to duck as it sailed past my head.First time out with the lead core ,all but one came on 7 color with blue dolphin spoons.Had one double on the cores, what a work out on the arms, adding 5 color too that should make my spread just right. Big rollers but waves were none existent. made for a fun ride that night. Tight lines Jim
  2. Hows that new boat treating you ,Looks great . How often are you running charters? If you need help sometime and need a pair of hands I would be will to help you out if I'm available. I'm not looking for a free ride ,I have my own boat just looking for some tips and how to fish the big lake, and to meet more people that fish the big lake on this side.

  3. I'd do this one too, going out again sunday morning
  4. I would be more than happy to field test spoons if you still need someone, same lake other side.
  5. Sunday my son and I had a laker that looked the same , thought it was a Pike also when we first netted it .
  6. Picked up some church walleye boards just not sure if I have the set up right, rod was bouncing quite a lot pulling them through the water, had a pretty good chop .are the rods suppose to do this or am I doing something wrong? JIm
  7. Thanks guy for all your input on the rod holders . I bought 8 Tite loc rod holders, these are sweet, Installed with a bigjon manual down rigger, much better than the Cannon manual riggers I have . Much smoother and the tip up feature is awesome, makes hook ups a lot easier , no leaning over the rail .Only thing I didn't like were the band buster releases that came with the bigjons, I am changing them out for Blacks.
  8. can fresh or frozen salmon be used instead of canned?
  9. Well I took the plunge and bought 2 lead core rods and reels, here is my question for you , I don't have any planner boards how should I run these. They are 7 color.Straight out the back ? on a rigger down deep? I have 2 riggers on the back of my boat and 2 off the side. right now I am running 2 dipsys per side. I was thinking of running them off the back riggers with the ball at 60 . Fishing in 90 to 130 fow. As of right now I am completing my arsenal just have to get new rod holders to replace the plastic scottys .
  10. A late report from Monday, Took my daughter and son with me that night , very slow night . tangled 2 dipsey rods and as I'm trying to untangle them one of the dipseys on the other side goes off, Emily gets the rod and with a little help from her dad she has her first lake trout and first fish on the big pond. A little excitment for a while. ha dto dodge two poles pulled back in to untangle. 1 for 1 that evening. 11. Been a long week I think I was having withdrawals from not fishing. Out with my son Nick, headed out to 90ft set lines by 530 am . couldn't have been more than 10 min after all lines were set the first rigger went off . My son picked up a fairly nice Laker , returned to get much bigger. Not five minutes later one of the dipseys fires ,fish decieded it didn't want the fake fly and spit it out. 15min later other rigger fires and I pick a very nice 7lb coho. It got very quite for a while until another rigger fires off. this nice fish estamated at about 18lbs. started running at the boat and with out stopping kept giong right into the other rigger cable , mono always looses against stainless steel. Fun time but nothing after that. Went 2 for 4 , donating a new spoon(worked good till the 18lb king left with it in its mouth. Lost flasher fly due to line twist. Tight lines Jim
  12. My last post brought up a subject that I never really thought about, what are you rod holders made of and what would happen if it broke. Who uses Plastic rod holders and who uses Metal? Have you ever had a rod holder break , did you loose you equipment?
  13. My boat right now is taking about 70% on dipseys right now, the riggers have been real quite for a while. As for lead core I can't afford any more rods right now its the last thing I will buy this year, but no funds right now.
  14. looks like I'm going to have to put a safety strap on until I can afford metal ones.
  15. I'll try to lower the inside and raise the out side rods, here is the best shot I have , its also going to get a little more complicated as I just bought 2 more down riggers, big Jons 4' booms, have to find space to squeeze them in somewhere. http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/files/2/3/7/7/m_dscn4809.jpg' alt='m_dscn4809.jpg'> only time the riggers get tangled is when a fish runs over the rigger lines. looks like the outside rod is down in this photo, I have raised them since. I might be letting out the line to quick , get in a hurry sometimes. Jim
  16. Here is another question for you guys, I run 4 dipsey rods 2 per side. riggers straight out the back off each corner, How do I keep the lines (dipseys) from tangling? I am running flasher flies on these rods ,they don't get into the riggers they are much deeper. I am running on the far outside a 10' 6" #1 set on 2.5 to 3 running from 70 to 130 LOC, the rear(inside) dipsey is a 8' 6" #0 set 0 to 1 running 55 LOC. the rod holders are about 10" apart. I'm not sure if its the current or the turns. When I make a turn its very wide. I was out yesterday and both sides tangled, while I was clearing the mess the pole went off for my daughter, not too much room in the boat for 2 messed up rods and fighting fish. I thought running a #1 deep would keep it clear of the shallow rod. Jim
  17. Thats an Awesome sunset Nailer
  18. Nice pile of kings and Cohos there. Lets hope they are still bitting for the weekend. Tight lines Jim
  19. Seems they are scattered here today too, a least the night bite sucks right now, can't wait till the weekend if my neck is back to normal I'll be out. Jim
  20. Boy would I like to ,aside from weather and waves being the main factor, I have a little problem with my cervical spine right now, I think all the rolling around on the boat might be causing some problems. If things get better and there is a good forecast I just might be there.

  21. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the responses . I know you get what you pay for and I was comparing the Diawa Accudepth to the Okuma reels. In the near future I am going to buy some rods and reels for lead core,at this point its the last thing I will be buying this year.As I have blow the budget this year. Tight lines Jim
