  1. Haven't been out since last weekend boat was in the shop , to have warranty items repaired,(still has to go back).Told the wife I would take her out for a fish fry But I wanted to fish also . so went took a trip up river to Riptides . After dinner we went out for just under an hour. Was able to try out my new depth raider, what a difference . SOG 3.1 to 3.6 speed at the ball 2.1 -2.2 , had no idea my baits were running that slow. It made a difference too 3 fish in the box in about 50 min. 2 were back to back.Largest one about 15lbs, and used planer boat as a bobber again. My wife and daughter just came along for the ride, didn't want to fish so we cut it short . Russ thanks for the help with the Depth raider, this thing works great. Hope to be back out tomorrow, suppost to be flat again, can only hope .Finished 3 for 3 on a short trip. 50ft of water down 40 ft water was 47-49 degrees. Surface temps were running about 67-69. 2. Nice fish there Russ, are you going to be in the brew city tournament. I going to try to get down there at least , but we are having company that day. Really like to meet some of you guys.
  3. Rj Look for Mikes (GLH) video on running a dive bomb. All these guys here are my teachers, I owe allot to them, I have spent many hours out on the lake to achieve those numbers, I had my boat in for sevice and the service manager could not be leave the amount of hours I had on my boat in the short time I have had it. 152 hours. Fishing keeps me sane . I am always happy to share what I have learned here , if you need some help feel free to contact me. I am out 2-3 times a week and launch out of Mckinley. Could possibly meet you down there sometime. You could also hail me on the radio as "Woof-n-fish". Tight Lines Jim
  4. I normally run a 5 and a 7 color cores, if I need to go deeper I can add a dive bomb to th e lead core, haven't needed to go deeper than 7 this year. I have run 3 color but no takers , if I need to get really deep i could take the 3 color and run it off one of my rear riggers . If you are only running 2 rods I would suggest a 5 and 7 because you could always add weight to it and get deeper, a 4oz dive bomb would get you about an extra 25 feet. Tight Lines Jim
  5. or a few extra dollars to stuff in the grass skirts
  6. If you are still looking for a Depth Raider try ebay, I picked mine up a couple weeks ago , had it out for the first time yesterday. Its a refurb unit but you will save just over 100.00. Came with a full warenty and everything needed for install. They are great units, really helped me get the speed correct, gps speeds were 3.1 -3.6 at the ball 2.1-2.2 picked up three fish in lees than 1 hour, correct speed made all the difference. 12. are you using Marine grade plywood or just the run of the mill plywood?
  13. I get very excited and usually get to the pole first unless I already have one in my hands. But if you are a guest you will have the rod handed to you for the first fish . Nothing finer that a head shaking king on the end of your line, except when the line starts to peel off at the same time. My father said it best " Is the pole suppose to be standing up like that?" I replied yea, its the lead core, wrong ! NO!!!! it was the rigger rod ,FISH ON!!!
  14. Missed the weekend fishing due to my neck bothering me So I decided I wanted to go out after work on Monday, My son Nick was again reluctant to go out because he was tired , but again after a little prodding by myself and my wife he gave in and went. Turned out it was a very nice night to be out , lake went flat ______________ by 730 no wind , Left the launch by 6 headed out to 60 ft . set lines going east . Marked a few but nada. hit 75 feet and turned north northeast, held theat course till we hit 90 , 1 drive by in 1 hour. stay at 90 until we got to the towers along with about a dozen other boats. headed west to 65-70 ft and turned south , anther drive by , (kinda sucked up til then)few minutes later 5 color fires 4 lb king. 7 color fires twice , 1 drive by and 1 four lb king. rigger fires and its a bit better about 6lbs. Pulled 4 rods and tried out my flash on some spoon. Less then a minute later rigger fires again another 4lb king. Pulled in 5 color to change and charge a spoon up and before I get the board on 7 color fires and its using the board as a bobber. worked on this guy for 15 minutes and then it puts on an aerial show for me and continues to rip out line every time I get him close to the boat.My son finially net this guy and before we get it out of the net the 5 color fires and its ripping line ,puts on quite a battle for Nick and after bringing in 25 lbs of fish (last 2) decided to call it a night. Ended up 6 for 6 with 3 drive bys. what worked really well was glow spoons, Best one was the moonshine spoon . Dinner time started about 8pm called it by 850. Great night to be out, just love it when the lake goes flat. Nick was really glad he went again he had the longest fish but just missed on the weight by a tenth of a pound , and all I kept hearing was oh my arm. Check out the smile on his face. Tight Lines Jim
  15. About 2 weeks ago my son and I were out in front of the main gap , and just like you , out of nowhere the motor just quits, didn't want to start either, 4 lead core out 2 riggers . finally start the motor and 2 minutes later 2 of the lead cores are screaming cus they are stuck on the bottom on zebra muscles. tangle 3 rods 2 lead and a rigger . what a mess . I do believe we had a stinky black and white puttycat on the boat that day.
  16. Photos we need photos

    Pelee Flyer

yea but can you slow it down enough to troll with , How many riggers will fit on that thing?
  18. Marcel, welcome I was in the same boat so to speak at the beginning of the season(Ice out) With a lot of questions and answers from the nice people here I have learned a tremendous amount. I love the peace that I get fishing out on the big pond. And the fishing is awesome. I am from the Milwaukee area but if your in the neighborhood let me know I 'll show you what I have learned. Would you be fishing out of Marinette? My father is not to far from there . If I'm giong up that way I 'll give you a shout. Tight Lines Jim
  19. Just love it when the lake goes flat.makes fighting the fish soo much easier.
  20. sweet when you get useable info. nice job Ken
  21. I bought the Targa instead of the proguide 175 because the length was shorter on the trailer and longer overall , would have went to the 18 but it wouldn't fit in my garage. rigging with rod holders was an adventure because the rail is curved so I added a angle of aluminum and a support which is not in the picture. I have 4 riggers on it and 12 rod holders, added a Marine radio. I bought the boat at the winter boat show, got a pretty sweet deal. I know have almost 150 hours one it and really enjoy it. If you buy one get one with a Full windshield , I would never buy one with out again. The new models this year are 101" wide . I kind of kid around and say she has a fat ass. But the ride is great along with the room coming from a 16ft with a 68" beam.
  22. Well I found a Depth Raider on ebay , The guy is from Burlington WI , the company is located near there. Its a refub unit , about 100.00 cheeper than a new one. cheapest I could find a new one was 434 plus tax . Now I have to say no to everything else this year. Don't tell the wife shes going to kill me. ha Tight lines Jim
  23. Well went out in between MMSD dumping more the next day , made sure we fished away from the floating poop. Had the day off from work , had to go see new sawbones for my neck . Left the launch about 130 after been rerouted all over the city due to a bike race downtown. trolled north for about an hour and nada, so I said to nick lets try the J plugs , haven't fished with them yet. Put out the first one and within 5 minutes 5 color starts screaming . 3 yr old king . put it back out change the 7 color to J plug and before I can get the 7 back in the water the 5 color goes off again, this was a real nice 4 yr old , but he decided to put on an arial show at the back of the boat , coming 5-6 ft out of the water, then spitting the plug back a me. Then I say to Nick I guess these things work! Trolled way up past the filter to the towers and made a turn east , was real quite up till then. Just completed our turn and 5 color goes off on port. Less then 30 sec later 5 color goes off on starboard side. "DOUBLE". Nick come up with the big one on the double , mine was dinky? Just bigger then a shaker. Continued out to 90ft and back riggers fire four times , 3 drive bys and one lost a ways from the boat. trolled all the way back in without even a wiff of a fish. finished the day 4 for 7 .
