I have seen many videos of guys that just go nuts and beat the fish senseless , I just grab em at the back of the head and toss them into the cooler , unless one gets way out of hand , most of the time I can have the hook out and in the cooler before anyone can get the beater out. Besides I like to hear them making a ruckus in the cooler.

Looks like the years over for fishing the big pond they are talking colder weather next week. we caught as many fish as last year , but 1/3 less trips. And the weight of the catch this year has kept a full freezer. How did everyone do this year? did you make more or less trips. Was you catch heaver than last year? We had a banner year, at 141 fish. No fish over 20lbs , but quite a few in the 15-19 lb range. Best day = 4th of July, with a cooler over 200lbs for 13 fish , smallest was 10lbs that day. Sent the catch with the couple that went out with us that day.

The wires should be already there, and there are a couple of ways to connect them. Mine is done on the NEMA 0183. if you have a network it can be done there . You will also need a MMSI number. That you can get through Boat US. The information to install it should have come with your radio. I just did a search on Hummingbird gps and DSC , a lot of good info. You may want to check Humminbirds website and the manufacture of you radio to find out which wires to connect to which wires. Mine was very simple 3 wires, Sorry can't remember what the colors were. You will have to enable the radio and the gps to use that fuction. On mine when I turn on the GPS it shows a Satellite/GPS on the radio indicating its working.

On my boat , a 17 footer we wear them all the time , they are not as uncomfortable as you might think. They just take a while to get use to wearing them. Safety first. because there is no second chance! How many guys have there radio hooked up to use the DSC function? not many I will guess. One button to press and your location is sent to the Coast Guard. Dave Said "God is good. And I renewed a direct, personal relationship with Him" Personally I think God wanted Dave to be able to help all of us. Thats My Opinion

Glad you made it through your experience . I originally read this on another website , but it just reinforced the fact that we continue to ware our inflatable life jackets while fishing out on the big lake. Also having a DSC radio and having it hooked up correctly just in case of that emergency. A single push of a button sends your location to the Coast Guard. I found out after reinstalling how well it works , hit the wrong button and received a call on my cell asking what the problem was, woops. I was in my garage 8 miles from the lake. couldn't figure out who would be calling me . If your ever in Milwaukee I would love to have you come and give a talk to GLSF Milwaukee on what happened. It opened my eyes and lots of others. Jim

wow more rods in the water !! Congrats. on the family expansion

Good luck on getting it fixed without replacing , I have personally replaced a couple of these at work , and some will and some won't . If you can get enough room you sometimes can unbolt the assembly with the wheel still in place. I work in a body shop and we see this problem a lot.

Mount worked great! Thanks. Mounted In the same place as the movie camera with better results, no vibrations. Makes it easy to change out the card or battery, it's very close to the windshield . Now just have to either update my computer or find different software. My computer is 32 bit and the software works best with a 64 bit. I am not sure if power director 10 is 64 , the new version is (11)

on a 16 gig card it will do 2.5 hours of high def video. Its field of view is 170' . other settings give different results. battery life is a little longer than it takes to fill a card. we filled 2 cards on Saturday 32gigs of video. About 5 hours. I picked mine up at best buy but you can order direct from Go Pro also. We ran some spoons along with 3 Flasher flys. Our only fish came on a FF setup. tough fishing unless you ran out to 240-260. I heard it was a bumpy ride back in early. Didn't want to run out that deep with the small craft advisory going into effect in the afternoon. and having neck issues right now. We were over fish but they were tight lipped. Tons of bait also. I may get a housing to run off riggers next year.

this is the gopro hero HD naked . the price drop is because 2 other company's have come out with there version. You still have to buy the cards and have a computer thats fast enough for the HD video,

Picked up a Go pro , The price dropped down to 129, does a better job than my video camera, Went 1 for 1 didn't get it on film though. Only a short 3.5 minute video setting lines after moving 5 miles. Awesome camera, test video

I run scottys pinch pad releases and my hook up ratio has shot up from the previous year. I was using blacks before , and could not see the small shakers . I run a 30" lead on the release and i could see an ant fart its so sensitive. we has very few swing and misses. 2 weeks ago i was watching the poles and had one must have got the end of the fly. very suttle but you are able to see it. no release on the miss though.

How much gear lost this year?
jimcr replied to wishfull thinking's topic in Lake Michigan Discussion
12 lb cannon ball with 25 feet of cable, 3 flasher fly setups, 200 copper, 3 deeper divers. Most of that in one day! Make sure your driver knows what to stay away from!. Hung most of the above on a ship wreck. New steering cable. -
I sure hope they don't plan to change the deeper divers. Except for the cracking on the clear divers. Most fishermen I know won't touch a dipsy ,there are cheep junk.

Ok we all have the go to lures , and I am sure each one of us has different one we go to. How did you come to have the specific lures as go to lures. Did someone clue you in on a secrete ? did your buddy tell you to. Did you just like the lure? Did it just look like it would catch fish. Tell us what that lure is and why. Mine was a big lake lure this year, Double orange crush. Only one trip this year did it not catch me a fish. Why I wanted to try UV lures this year , and it worked out that it was the first one I tried this spring.

I think its a money thing seeing the size of this boat, and he doesn't care! Has to be one of the biggest boats in the area. Not the first time I have had to ride his wake. Next time I'm posting pictures! -
There still are fish around even though they are harder to entice to the hook. Marked plenty of fish saturday morning north of the towers just not too many takers. Had 4 flasher and flies down and 2 spoons , flashers went untouched . Changed over to all spoons . Went 4 for 5 having one net malfunction , Must be Nicks new glasses because I still cant' figure out how the fish got out of the net. The lake was flat most of the morning. 80 to 110 feet of water and 85-95 seemed to hold the most fish. Had the same yacht come through at break net speed sending up a giant wake! Some one should show this guy how to properly trim his boat . All this and the 250 copper fires and I am thinking your kidding , yep fish at the SIDE of the boat and 6 foot rollers left from this guy. Did get the fish a four year old , though we were racing this fish as we bobbed from the wake. Just an awesome day to be on the water. 2 Kings 1 Rainbow 1 Coho 1 Net malfunction Jim
