I run the in-line boards when Salmon Fishing with Lead Core. I like them and they work great for that. I run my big boards for walleye fishing. I don't have flags for my in-lines and I cannot tell when I have a walleye on with them. I was not about to buy flags for them. I can easily tell if a fish is on with my big boards by the pull in the big board line. I usually run all the same set up on each side. One side I might run all BB and crawler harnesses all set back about the same. The other side I will run all Hot N Tots. When I get a fish on one I just slide the rest of the lines out and reset on the inside. That is what works for me.

I agree Get Some Boards. Research it a little because when you get boards you will want more. You will want all the same kind.

I run my lite lines off the riggers with clean spoons. If I use a flasher fly or a meat rig I will use a heaver line rod. I usually always run my probe rigger with the lite line.

Hit the water about 5:15 pm went to the end of the Raisin River 21fow. Trolled with bottom bouncers 4oz off the back and 2oz over the side. All of the action was off of the back of the boat. Probably should have went heavier on the side rods. We ended up 3 for 4. One nice one lost at the back of the boat . Purple and and white harnesses were working. They were not on fire. Headed in about 8:30pm. Nice evening on the water. The water was clean, and fairly clear, no weeds floating to foul your lines. TT

Eric, the water in the bay was cloudy. In front of Fermi it was clear however there were weeds starting to show up since the winds were out of the east.

Went to Lake Erie on Friday May 21 and camped out in the State Park. We were on the water by 01:00 after setting up camp. Worked some spots I had marked in Brest Bay but no takers. We ran out in front of Fermi and got 4 nice walleye using a mixture of crawlers, Rapalas and Hot n Tots. Storms were coming in so we were off the water by 6:00. May 22 woke up to rain. We waited it out and got on the water by 11 and went back out in front of Fermi we worked the same area all day using the same program. We picked away and got seven. Most were over 20". We had a very nice sunset. May 23 we got an early start. The water was flat calm. We got one Walleye right away. Once the sun came up the fish shut down. We ended up 12 for the weekend, and a good time was had by all.

I agree. The Dmax has the pulling power and the mileage. Ford needs to get with the program on the mileage.

A free slider is a 6 foot peice of mono with a snap swivel on each end. Put a spoon on one end. After your downrigger is set take the other end of the the mono and attach it to your line. It will slide down to the belly in your line between the tip of your rod and where it is attached at the cannon ball. When a fish hits the slider your release at the cannon ball will trip and the swivel will slide down to the other bait. Land you fish and enjoy.

I have the navionics eastern US chip. It has both Lake Michigan and Lake Erie. However it does not have data for the southern part of Lake Michigan.

I have been using Cabalas 27# for years and I like it. Last year I had to buy another brand of 27# and it was thicker. I had to strip off a bunch of backing on my reel to make it fit. I will go back to the Cableas. I try to keep a 2 core spool on board. Good price too.

Welcome Jason, I started out in a 16 footer as well. On the right day it is no problem to go after the big ones. Nice introduction.

Hello Scott and welcome to this site. I have been a member for several years now. There a lot of great and helpful people here. I normaly fish Lake Erie and Lake Michigan but last year went to Oak Orchard Creek for a week. We had a blast and caught some very nice big salmon. We just made reservations to go again this year. Always looking to learn more about the Big O. Tom

I have also used the Cabelas brand with good luck. Then last summer I needed to respool one of my rods and bought some at a shop in Manistee, I don't remember the brand. It was thicker even though it was 27#. I had to remove a bunch of backing to make it all fit on my reel. I don't know if you guys have noticed any difference in the thickness or not??
