  2. The GLSI is advocating for significant Lk Trout cuts to address the forage issue on Lk Michigan instead of cutting kings. Here is some of our latest activity. The GLSI met in Lansing at Constitution Hall with Chief Jim Dexter and his Deputy Chief last week. There was an expression of suprise from the DNR to the formation of Great Lakes Salmon Initiative . Good news is we are at the table with the MDNR and have a direct line to the people in power. The MDNR has only communicated to the GLSI only through Senators and Lobbyists up to this point . The MDNR finally heard from the board of directors directly and our insights into the future of the fishery of Lake Michigan. One enormous confession we did get was that they missed getting current feedback from the public and were using feedback from 2012 (yes 4 years ago) to justify the current proposed cuts. They were very surprised by the passion and the opposition to the proposed salmon cuts in 2017, starting with the meeting July 12th in Ludington with Senator Booher and the following meetings in Sept in Ludington and South Haven. The position stated by Michigan DNR is to keep up the premise of a 50% salmon cut and a slight cut in L. Trout. This is a compromise from the original proposal. Senators have met with Directors of the MDNR and have firmly expressed their interest in maintaining current stocking levels in Chinook plants, this is carrying tremendous weight. Other states are fighting to keep the king plants at current levels. .. 0% cuts. MDNR also admitted that the lakers are out of balance with the current prey biomass. They have in the GLSI opinion, taken baby steps to reduce the LT population. GLSI offered many ideas that we have heard from anglers to help balance the population. As a board, we expressed that we represent all angler sectors . . River fishermen, big lake, pier, shore, charter industry and all economic impact areas for businesses. Our recommendations stand firm from our members.... 0% cuts of king salmon plants... stay with the same plant numbers of of 2016.... and get the lake trout numbers in balance! They heard.. hopefully they listened.... the feed back of the citizens. There is a proposed conference call on Oct 5th by the LMC for decision on recommendations from the states surrounding Lake Michigan. Sent from my SM-G920V using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  3. Great to see a good catch of young kings, I did not see many all summer at Ludington. Way to go!
  4. Great catch! Sent from my SM-G920V using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  5. That's a good one Martin!
  6. Thanks for the info in that report.
  7. I could support a huge cut in lake trout like the 62% or now 50% they want for kings for 2017. I can't support a further cut in kings in 2017. We should wait one more year on kings to evaluate the results from the last big cuts. All signs in the lake point out they are working. . Natural reproduction from the nearly non existent 2015 river run is going to be way down for the 2016 year class of kings. The wier returns from last year say it all. So kings just took another huge cut this spring with not many smolts spawned from our rivers. Sent from my SM-G920V using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  8. Nice catch, hope you can find the owner of the cooler.
  9. There is a list here on this site, some of these cams are down but many of the links still work: http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/fishing-hunting-outdoors/topic/39806-great-lakes-webcams/
  10. Had a great day on Friday by myself. The water flipped over and I fished in tight in 30 - 40 ft of water. A half core with a DW natural glow plug, a 75 copper and a silver horde white and green plug and a rigger with a silver horde green glow blk ladder back plug. I got 5 kings and another coho when pulling lines. I was done by 7:30am. Had 2 doubles, that was exciting. Went back out Saturday, the fish weren't in like they were the day before. We hit 1 and lost it inside then ran out to the 35 line, trolled west and hit and lost 1 out there. We ended 0 for 2. It was slow for my buddies who fished Sunday too. 14. I should add, I got burned on day 1 due to tackle failure, I haven't seen a size class like this in many years. Only 1 person to blame for that. After working on my gear yesterday afternoon and beefing up like the old days, I did not need to reload at Capt Chuck's today like I had to yesterday. 15. Those battles are exciting but frustrating. We had a hard time keeping them hooked up and paid with some tackle yesterday.
  16. Fishing has been good the last 2 days. Some big kings have arrived in better numbers. July was a tough month. We have fished north both days from 90 to 120 feet of water early and then out to 150 to 200 ft after the sun is up. We hit 14 yesterday and boxed 7. Today we hit 15 and got our limit. Real nice size class, just like the good old days. 24lbs was the biggest yesterday and 23 lbrs today, a number of 20lb+. Hits came on a Moonshine Mag Oscar on a rigger at 40 ft, green glow blk ladder back sliver horde on secret weapon on a rigger at 45 ft. A 10 inch white/crushed ice paddle and pickled sunshine fly on a rigger from 40 to 65 ft. Pearl and blk dot and white blk ladder silver horde on a half core and a 150 copper. Green sparkler 10 in paddle and pickled sunshine meat rig on a low diver out 100 early and back to 140 later. A white/crushed ice spin doctor and pickled sunshine fly on a hi diver out 90 early and 140 later. A lucky charm DW plug on a 200 copper.
