  1. Great catch over 3 straight days!
  2. Lake Effect had another great box and leads after day 1. Nice job guys! We are in 25th and need a big box tomorrow to improve. Looking forward to another great day of fishing tomorrow.
  3. Congratulations to Lake Effect and their team on their first place today in the Ludington Gander Bud Light Ladies tournament am division! They put a great box together after what has been a tough week for fishing around here. I have to thank the ladies on our team who landed a great box too for a 2nd place finish and a $700 check! Since I'm one of our teams sponsors and rigger monkey, a nice chunk of that change when into my pocket:D It was sure fun to fish with one of my great lake mentors from the Mermaid here in Ludington. Terry and Jan have been in the game since in started in 1966. Jan and her daughters were part of our crew. Nice job to Riverside Charters from Manistee who won the Pro division! If I told you where I was fishing or what we used, I would have to kill you or my team for the weekend would kill me. The Ludington Gander Mountain Offshore Classic starts tomorrow! I'll share the details on Monday when it's over. We are competing against a big field and if your boat's one of them, hope to see you at the tourney tent and I wish you Good Luck!
  4. I bet it's tasting delicious about now, enjoy! One more day in the hole at work and I'll be up for 9 days of fishing:D
  5. I used to use Alberta Clippers a long time ago when we used to have big kings. I've had big kings shred them. When they would hit and run, they would rip the mainline throught the clipper release and drag it down to the swivel and lure at the end of the main line. The main line would cut grooves into the plastic in the clipper release. After a few of them, it would start to nick the main line. Maybe they have improved them in recent years or our smaller kings now don't do the damage as the 20+ pounders used to do. I threw all the clippers off my boat. You may want to inspect them after you hit some nice fish on them.
  6. Congratulations!
  7. Great job, sounds like the bay is on fire! How are your year classes on the bay? We seem to be missing a couple year classes of fish between 10 and 16 inches down here on Erie. You don't need a tape measure, all the keepers are 16" on up. The boxes are nice due to the overall size. We are getting some spikes from 7 to 10 inches on every trip but those fish won't be legal for a couple years. I think we might have 1 or 2 tough years on Erie coming up unless the "legal next year fish" are hiding somewhere out there.
  8. Good job on the fish! Wire's back 300, can you explain that rig? I'm with you with the 3 way rig on the end. A wire diver or just a wire long line...back 300 ft? Off a board? I run wire, copper and cores for salmon but I've never ran wire for walleyes.
  9. That's a nice box!
  10. The fishing was not red hot but we worked at them and picked our limits Sat and Sun. We fished 26 to 27 feet of water west of the Sputnik(Ohio waters). The fish came on spoons and big jon mini divers with leads of 95 and 105. Riggers and spoons on the bottom and a green and chrome hot'n'tot with 1 oz weight in front of it about 150ft out on the boards. The best spoons were a stinger perch and a copper mixed veggie. A moonshine shell bell was also good. Good luck!
  11. I'll be out too both days this weekend. Steady fishing out by West Sister this week. I don't know anyone who fished in MI waters. It would be nice if the fish start going again in the inside water. I'm not sure yet if we are going to stop and check that out or make the long run to start.
  12. Well done helping that boater and nice catch!
  13. Tuna Tom in Ludington does great work. He has rebuilt a number of reels(including 47LC's) with drag upgrades for me and I've been very pleased with his work. You can drop off reels at Capt Chucks or call him. His number is: Tuna Tom's 231-843-4557
  14. Nice job guys!
  15. Could it be spiney water fleas? Once they get caught on your line, it looks like brown slime. Tough to get off and it will clog the line guides to the point you can't reel in your line. They have been bad at times on Lk Mich, primarly when water warms. The last couple years have not been so bad for them. I've never seen much talk about them on Lk Huron but maybe they are the culprit?
  16. The spoon bite has been good on Erie too lately. One nice thing about being the fillet master for some of my fishing buddies is that the cutter keeps the cheeks. What's your favorite way to cook up a nice batch?
  17. Looking good, I can hear the oil sizzling

    Early Doe Hunt

Shooting deer in Sept-that sucks, unless it's for the youth hunt. They should cut back on muzzleload buck hunting and make all December doe only if they want to kill more does. They could extend doe season into January if enough aren't shot. I agree more does need to be shot in southern MI but we need to take some pressure off killing all the small bucks. How about a one buck rule and shoot all the does you need for meat.
  19. When you hit a fish on them, the pull of the fish causes them to pull the back down and tilt the front up so they don't drag as much pulling them in. Hence, no release. Weight does go to the front. They have been a hot combo with spoons on Erie lately.
  20. Great catch, great pics, some very nice browns there!
  21. Nice job! Sounds like you had some great action. WTG!
  22. Shu9265, I'm sure you'll be tearing up your way soon when those fish vacate Mi waters and head east. Now's the time on our end of the lake. I left my camera at home but one of the guys took some pics on a throw away, not sure if it was digital or film. I usually save those cheeks but the cleaning station had a line up and everyone wanted to get home so we all grabbed a knife and whacked them as fast as we could. The frying pan will be sizzling soon.
  23. Had a good day on Erie yesterday fishing on my buddies boat. 5 of us got 25 walleyes, the size is getting real nice from the big year class we have been fishing the last couple years. We started in close in 16 feet of water with a spread of thundersticks on one board, spoons and big jon mini diver disks on the other board, 2 riggers and two regular divers(no rings) with spoons. It was a white bass attack in close and we got 4 or 5 white bass for every walleye. All the walleyes were coming on spoons so we switched over the other boards to all spoons and mini divers. Our leads were 35 to 40 ft. Later we streched some leads out from 70 to 90 ft and fish cames on all of them. We put it on a northeast troll and worked out to 20 feet of water. We got out of the heavy concentrations of white bass and started hitting more walleyes. It was a steady pick after that with only a couple doubles for the day. We just kept taking an out troll and then a in troll until we finished our limit. The big divers and riggers were also hitting fish. We had the big divers set on 3 out 35 and 40 ft and we kept the riggers just off the bottom from 15 to 19 down depending on the water depth we were over. We used stinger scorpions, mini-streaks and small yecks. Purples and pink colors were best. Blueberry muffin was very steady. All copper backs. Hope I can get out tomorrow if it doesn't storm. Good luck!
