  1. I ran a number of trips solo last season. While all went well and I did show a decent profit, a few customers did comment on the lack of a mate. Sportboat has a 27 year history of keeping a first mate on all trips. We are one of only a couple who do out of St. Joe. So I attempt to always have a competent and friendly mate running the lines. The only exception is when I get folks calling for a discounted trip. I can reduce the cost a smidgen if they agree to no mate onboard. This usually involves 1 -2 person trips only.
  2. On Sportboat I have regularly scheduled times of departure, but the customer rules. If they request a special time, I will try to accomodate them. With St. Joe being located in SW Michigan, many of my customers reside in a different time zone. At least a half dozen or so will forget that and show up an hour late. So I will attempt to reach them if they are more than 15 minutes late. If I can't reach them, I will wait about 1.5 hours past the agreed departure time.
  3. Man you had me worried , talkin to boats and stuff. After all, they don't have a hull of a lot to say back to ya. When they do talk back, it's usually with an attitude. They are stern and never bow to anyone. Actually I have been hearing the same types of reports out of St. Joe. Let's just hope that if the perch make a comeback they won't be overharvested. They have a hard enough time co-existing with the gobies.
  4. Excellent! The 'ol orange edged bloody nose strikes again! Not to mention that you got kids out on the water! And be thankfull your young. When you get old and laugh too hard, it aint coke; and it's exiting the other end!
  5. Yeah, but he didn't fight much! My little sister coulda brought him in. And then the FBI confiscated the carcass. They were gonna search his stomach for the remains of Jimmy Hoffa.:
  6. Or................let's just call 'em................lunch!
  7. Momoi in clear and blue smoke.
  8. Nice Report! Hopefully larger sized fish will start showing up for you soon.
  9. I heard this past week of a possible person to person transmission of the virus somewhere in Asia. It appears that one male teen possibly infected up to 3 of his family members.....now that scares me.
  10. Those are stable flys and MAN can they bite! The farther from shore you get, the worse they are too. After all you are the nearest land (and foodsource) in site to them. Long pants and two pairs of loose socks seem to be the best solution for them. 100% deet is effective also but be sure to read and understand the health risks and warnings provided by the manufacturers.
  11. Yeah, ......................that's about the size of the salmon and trout I catch.................................IN MY DREAMS!!!!!!!!
  12. Bluedevil, I find I do the same thing. The laziness and greed in the people is a sad thing. Americans are now a majority of takers, and the givers are far and few between. I blame it on RAP and the popularity of the " I'm a gansta, the world owes me, and don't dis me " crowd. If we could just get 51% of our youth interested in hunting and fishing, things would change.
  13. I heard that too. It appears that a large amount of fish have headed up the coast.
  14. Fishing has been fairly consistent for the past couple of weeks from 85' to 130' from the 5's to the 13's. There is a good population of larger Kings out past 200' but it is a hit or miss situation with finding them. Probably the hands down, most consistent bite going on is the stable fly bite. Man those pesky things are awfull!
  15. Just chop 'em in half and count the rings!
  16. Although I haven't tried it, I know a fellow charter Captain that runs full cores off his deep riggers in the summer to target very deep, wary 4 year olds. He swears by it. I think ol Sporty might be giving it a shot this season if we have to run out past 200'.
  17. Are you sure of the species? They look a bit like younger kings to me.
  18. They are all sold.
  19. Welcome aboard Kayle! Good luck in your fishing! This site is a great hodgepodge of folks who love the sport and who usually are eager to pass on their knowledge. Just ask!
  20. What no omlet? :D
  21. Good Luck on the pond...I will try to make it to the chat tonight. seeyall there!
  22. Very, very nice work Stevo! I like using fresh cut-bait while it is still frozen....the water thaws it in no time. I just pull a pack from the freezer, throw it in my fish cooler, pull it out as needed. I do like to change it out every time I change baits and set ups to keep the stink good and strong. Unless I can get Mark Turner to brine it up for me...
  23. Hi Mark! Welcome Aboard! Wow you have it made. Frankfort is both a great fishing port and the area is a picturesque, quiet place to be settled in. Good fishin'!
  24. Sounds like a great outing! Keep schhmacking 'em!
  25. TWO MEAT RIGS!!!!!! ...cept for steelies and browns.....2 bird lines then.
