I use 20 pound but am constantly checking the last 30 feet or so and cutting of the bad. One little nick and the line is compromised on a decent fish.

For divers it's pretty easy. Set them out the side of the boat with a guess for their release. Now, set the hook and if they pop off they're right. If they don't, then they're too heavy. As you're running them, if they pop off without a fish then with barely a turn tighten them up until they stay out. For riggers, it depends on what you're running and the size of fish you are after. A flasher fly will make you tighten up your release while a spoon is light. It's pretty much a trial and error thing.

Nice job out there. I typically run only one swr at a time simply because I want it to be my deepest rigger.

Went out of Holland last night and had NO idea we were walking into some pretty large waves. Took the defensive coaching staff with me for a "meeting" before the season starts. Ended the night 4 for 6 on a very shortened night. Pounded out way out to 70' and set up. Got a nice Brown right away on a NBK spoon down 55 on a rigger. Turned with the waves and picked up a steelhead on a poofster paddle and fly on a wire diver set at 120. Then picked up a shaker on a rigger and ended with a decent king on a mongolian spoon off from 250' of copper. Could rarely keep more than 4 lines going and decided to go in after our DB coach kept chumming over the side. Those darned DB's.... Not a bad night considering.

I just stumbled across a pretty good cracker spread and thought I'd share. Took a good sized chunk of salmon that was already cooked (I cooked it in teriyake) but I don't think it matters. About a 4" chunk of a filet. Mix that with 1 package of cream cheese. Add a tablespoon or so of dried onion. Touch of salt Tablespoon or so of lemon juice (to taste) Mix it up and it was a pretty big hit at our party and doesn't get much easier than that.

I really don't care which one but the fish seem to care so I'm voting for the mag because that's what I take most of my fish with.

One of my hottest rods is a 250ft of 32lb copper.

Usually somewhere around 15 degrees but the buoy is pretty shallow so I'm not sure what kind of thermocline it'll show.

I was hoping someone could help. I've used my wire diver setups all year and had great luck with them. This past trip I went to set them up and both of them had serious curly line for a long ways on the line. I'm talking something like 50-100 feet or so and I didn't really want to cut that off. Well, I paid the price because both broke at times and I lost fish and gear with them. What causes this to happen? In the past, I had the top 5 feet or so get really curly and cut it off but can't figure out why a bunch of it did it. Did I not wind it on tight enough the last time out? Thanks

What works the best for me is to wear pants and long sleeve shirt and forget to tell your fishing partners to do the same Honestly though, the lightweight nylon pants and a UV flats fishing shirt seem to be the only things that work.

Holland is still HOT! 7 for about ??? Where do I begin counting, the ones that take a rip and nobody home or the ones that you actually feel for a bit. Got out a little later than wanted to but left the dock about 6. Went to about 120' of water and started taking fish pretty quickly. In fact, could only ever get 6 lines in the water with 3 of us in the boat since I had 2 newbies with me and only me setting lines. Every time I turned around some line was making a run to find either nobody home or have them come unbuttoned early. Had a bunch of fish get off planer boards before we could get them off. Here's what worked: 130-140 was the best and almost entirely south troll (I think we weren't far from Saugatuck by the end) Rigger at 70 with NBK took 2 250 copper with BLL mod. veggie took 1 Rigger at 60 with some moonshine glow (don't remember) Diver at 130 with BLL Patriot took 2 Full core with another glow took 1
