Sept 17, 2014 Fishing remains steady. Finally the warmest water in the lake; just like last yr; was out in the middle of the lake is now pushing in and setting up the water better. Good fishing from the 35's into the 4000's, 54's south into the 40's. Best rods for me were suprisingly the divers with Spin Doctors and Meat Rigs, 140-150ft on highs and 50-60 on low wires. 8" UV/UV w/Yellow Gasoline Meat Rig 140ft back was best, Mtn Dew/Cold Steel, Black Crush/Moo Moo, Blue Crush/Blue Moo. All my spoon bites were on Mixed Veggie and SOG colors on riggers and coppers except for 1of ea bites on a Starburst and Reverse Riverside super Slims on 100 and 150ft coppers. Yeck Perch, Mixed Veggie; Moonshine Wild Perch, 007, Craigs Flounder, DW SOG. Marked a lot of "big" hooks 70-90ft down whether these are mature Kings or big Trout I don't know I couldn't get these fish to go, deepest bite was the main on a rigger at 50ft. All the fish were empty--no bait even though I did mark some pods of bait. Unlike a couple of days ago the fish on the graph were not moving through the column and into the spread and appeared to be inactive but the bite was still good. 210-230egree troll was best but hard to hold angle and speed driving into 3-4ft waves. after a short morning a couple of pukers called it and wanted to go in, we tried an east troll in the following seas to see if they felt better and had only 1 bite where the west was steady. Nice 3 yr old Kings were the bulk of the catch with a few steelies and a coho thrown in. Brought to you by Captain Chuck's DiverDennis is not affiliated with Captain Chuck's

Here's an excerpt from Captain Chuck's report. First time I've heard of Delta and "The Horn". Anybody know what it means?

Sept 8, 2014 Offshore fishing is good. 39's-44's, 54's-59's. North and south sides of the delta which nicknamed the Horn straight out of Ludington Harbor is holding great numbers of fish and bait. Fall fishing looks like it should be very good this year. Some very big Steelies are showing up, nice Lakers mature kings are still around and smaller Kings are showing up and coho are still around. Meat and spoons are the ticket. 60ft-100ft down is the zone but we did have some bites up higher on 150-200ft coppers. Blue Bubble spin Doctors and Lions Den Meat rigs on high divers 160-200ft back same with Kevins Girlfriend and Green Mile . Spoons were Mongollian beef, Happy Meal, Tangerine Tiger, Moonshine and Modified Fuzzy Blue Dolphins on mains and sliders. We have a huge blow forecasted from the south and then changing to the north this week. Maybe the north blow will be enough to bring in some cold water, set-up breaks and get the mature Kings in front of the pier for the weekend? Went 14 miles out (44 line) to find the scum line and cold water. Had a 20° temp change 10' down. Got a late start and didn't get set until 7. Went 6 for 10 all steelhead on 75' and 150' copper on boards with regular size spoons. Big fish was ten pounds. Bite shut off with the rising sun. Had to check lines frequently because of all the crap in the water. Sure was nice to have flat water and a beautiful day.

I always check out Captain Chuck's fishing report. Captain Chucks sporting goods on US10 in Ludington is a good place to get your fishing stuff. The 4000/5000 references are longitude lines about 12+ miles from the pier heads. You can get an idea of how far by checking out the NOAA surface temp map. From 86*3000' to 86*5000' is about 16 miles. -

Your act of kindness will surely bring you some good karma. We did a 2 hour tow for a fellow fisherman out of Muskegon and got nothing. They say, "What goes around will come around." Check out the post here.
